Tayammum is a dry ablution performed using purified dust or sand when water is unavailable for ritual washing (wudu'). Tayammum can be performed if there is no clean water readily available, to save water for later use, if one is sick and water could worsen their illness or delay cure, or if one has no access to water. To perform tayammum, one intends to prepare for prayer, strikes their hands on earth or dust, shakes off particles, and wipes their face and hands. Tayammum is nullified if water becomes available, necessities requiring bathing occur, or reasons for performing it disappear or are interrupted, such as passing wind.

4. PROOFS OF THE PERMISSIBILITY
OF TAYAMMUM
• Allah says
“…and when you don’t find water, then perform at-
tayammum with clean earth and rub your faces and hands
with it.”
[Surah Al Maidah:6]

5. HOW TO PERFORM
TAYAMMUM? (RUKUN)
1) NIYYAH
-Make Niyyah (intention) in your
heart that this act of Tayammum is for the
purpose of preparing Salah, and say
“Bismillah”

6. 2) Strike both hands slightly on pure earth,
sand, stone, or concrete.
3) Shake the hands to reduce the particles
therein

7. 4) Wipe the face with palms, once (x1)
5) Repeat step 2

8. 6) Wipe the back of both hands
- wiping the back of right hand with palm of
the left and vice versa.

10. ISSUES FOR DISCUSSION
1) Permissible to perform tayammum by using wall,
prayer mat, etc.
2) Permissible to perform as many obligatory or
optional prayers as he wishes.
3) Doesn’t need to repeat his prayer if the person
finds water in that particular time (after he
tayammum and perform prayer)
