Manual techniques of sports tuina anmo

  1. 1. Manual Techniques of Sports Tuina-AnmoRolling -Gun Fa (滚法) 1 Rolling- Gun Fa belongs to Oscillating movement relies on the development of a kinesthetic wave pattern through repetitive movement. This movement generates a rhythmic wave pattern that penetrates deeply into the body and activates the circulation of Qi and blood. This wave also affects the nervous system. 2 Gun fa starts with hypothenar surface of palm and roll on the dorsal of the palm with the extension and flexion of the wrist.
  2. 2. Kneading- Rou fa (揉 法 ) 1 Rest the heel of the palm, whole palm or hypothenar on the surface with the wrist oscillating 60 cycles per minute, using the elbow as the axis. 2 Penetrate strength can go through skin & muscle, to nerve depending on the area of the contact. 3 Kneading produce no friction on the area of contact, but circular movements applied to soft tissue causing the underlying layers of tissue to rub against each other. The result causes an increase in blood flow to the massaged area to disperse stagnation. 4 Using the different parts of the hand to stimulate different areas  T hu mb kne a d in g 指揉法  P a lm kn e ad in g 掌揉法  Hypothenar kneading 鱼 际揉法  Palm heel 掌根揉法  Uln a r b o rd e r kn e ad in g 前臂揉法  E lb o w kn e a d in g 肘揉法Squeezing– Nei fa (捏法) uses the thumb, fingers or palms to make small deep pressure movement in a circular or transverse movement.
  3. 3. Grasping (揉 捏)Involves squeezing and kneading the muscles fibers with 3 fingers or palm.Vertical friction (弹拨法 或提 弹法 ) Squeezing the tendon or muscle fibers with fingers, lift it vertically upward and releases repetitively.Pressing (按压) (An fa pressing + Ya fa suppressing). Press statically on the specific area or at the acupoints of meridians with thumb or both palm, or tip of the elbow for 90 to 120 minutes.Deep friction (分筋 ) 1 Apply with a thumb or elbow’s tip targeted at specific areas of soft tissue (scar tissues and adhesions), or tendon, or ligaments passively until sufficient depth has been reached, move back and forward or short rocking movement while maintaining the same deep pressure. 2 Applying traverse friction directly into the tissues at 90 degrees penetrates the most deeply.
  4. 4. Percussion (叩击 ) 1 wit h t h e wrist re m a in in g f a irly lo o se , st rikin g t h e su rf a ce wit ha lt e rn a t ive ha n d s 3 . 8 .2 T yp e s of p e rcu ssio n  B e a t in g 空拳盖击 is ca rrie d o ut b y st rikin g wit h t h e pa lmar su rf a ce of loo se ly h e ld f ist  Ha ckin g 空拳竖击 is performed with the ulnar border of the lo o sely h e ld f ist.  Hit t in g 指尖叩击 wit h f in ge rt ip s  Ch o p p in g 掌侧击 Pa lm wit h hypothenar  Cu p p in g 拍打 wit h p a lm s a re f o rm into a h o llo w cu p shap e .
  5. 5. Gentle stroking 捋法 (捋 顺 法 ) Move along following the grain of the muscle fibers, tendons and ligaments very lightly, either with palm or fingers in linear movement.Scrubbing (抚摩 ) Use single palm or thumb move circular and liner forward and backward along the surface lightly 50 to 70 times per minutes to alleviate pain and relieve numbness.Circular Stroking (摩擦 ) Start with circular motion and follow by the liner long stroke along the longitudinal to the muscle fibers.Deep stroking (推 压 ) (Pushing Tui fa + suppressing -Ya fa) Stroking over the veins of the extremities is used in the form of long strokes from the wrist to the proximal end of the upper arm, or from the foot up to the fold of the groin.Rub rolling- Cuo fa (搓 法 ) Two palms press against the targeted area and move in opposite direction produce friction on the specific area.
  6. 6. Vibrating (振动 ) (P re s sin g + Ha ckin g) W ith o n e p a lm co ve r t h e sp e cif ic ta rge t e d a re a, ha ckin g is performed with the ulnar border of the lo o sely h e ld f ist of t h e ot h e r h a nd .Rotation -Yao fa (摇晃法)  Forward and backward rotation starting with slow small circular movements and gradually increasing the size of the rotation (circular passive joint movement).  Relax tendon and ligaments of the joints to extend the range of motion of the joints
  7. 7. Rocking & shaking (抖动法) Holding just above the patient’s wrist, creating a little traction and shaking with a small movement to create a wave like vibration through the elbow and shoulder joint to relax the joints and muscles.Contributed by SOHA Institute 2012, Singapore
