  3. 3. ☭IN THE RUSSO-OTTOMAN WAR THE RUSSIANS USED BERDAN M1868 & M1870 SINGLE SHOT RIFLES ☭OPPOSED BY TURKISH TROOPS ARMED WITH WINCHESTER REPEATING RIFLES, MAINLY CONSISTED OF THE MODEL 1866. THE RUSSIANS SUFFERED HEAVY CASUALTIES. ☭RUSSIAN EMPIRE DECIDED TO MODERNIZE THE IMPERIAL ARMY

  5. 5. ☭CAPTAIN ZINOVIEV SUBMITTED ANOTHER 3 LINE DESIGN ☭BELGIAN LEON NAGANT SUBMITTED A 3 ½ LINE RIFLE
  6. 6. ☭IN THE 1891 TRIALS THE EVALUATORS WERE SPLIT IN THEIR DECISION BETWEEN MOSIN’S RIFLE AND NAGANT’S RIFLE ☭NAGANT’S RIFLE WAS OF A MORE COMPLICATED MECHANISM WHICH REQUIRED SPECIAL INSTRUMENTS TO DISASSEMBLE ☭MOSIN’S RIFLE WAS CRITIZED FOR LOWER QUALITY OF MATERIALS CAUSING STOPPAGES ☭THE COMMISSION VOTED 14 – 10 TO APPROVE NAGANTS RIFLE ☭HOWEVER THE HEAD OF COMISSION ORDERED SUBSEQUENT TESTS UNDER HIS SUPERVISION ☭MOSIN’S RIFLE SHOWED IT’S ADVANTAGES, AND WAS CHOSEN OVER THE NAGANT
  7. 7. ☭LEON NAGANT FILED A PATENT DISPUTE, CLAIMING THAT HE WAS FIRST TO APPLY THE INTERRUPTER, ALTHOUGH HE BORROWED IT FROM MOSIN’S DESIGN (STOPS RIMLOCK IN THE MAGAZINE) ☭MOSIN COULD NOT PATENT IT AS HE WAS AN OFFICER OF THE RUSSIAN ARMY ☭NAGANT WAS PAID 200,000 RUSSIAN RUBLES EQUAL TO WHAT MOSIN RECIEVED, AND WAS ATTEMPING TO USE THE SITAUTION FOR PUBLICITY AS WELL AS HIS 1895 REVOLVER BEING ADOPTED BY THE RUSSIAN ARMY ☭IN SUMMARY THE RIFLE IS THE DESIGN PROPOSED BY MOSIN, AS FURTHER AMENDED BY MOSIN, WITH SOME DETAILS BORROWED FROM NAGANTS DESIGN, PRIMARILY THE MAGAZINE AND FEED SYSTEM ☭THE MOSIN (NAGANT) WAS BORN
