  2. 2. Location <ul><li>Ancient Rome is in a country called Italy faced the Tyrrhenian Sea. </li></ul><ul><li>Ancient Rome was built on 7 hills. </li></ul><ul><li>Ancient Rome’s natural vegetation is mostly shrubs. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Expansion <ul><li>Ancient Rome expansion was to Gaul,Carthage,Syria,Asia Minor, Macedonia Greece and Spain. </li></ul><ul><li>Ancient Rome started to expand in 500 B.C and stopped in 44 B.C. </li></ul><ul><li>Ancient Rome began to travel more on boats and on roads to get to all the different lands . </li></ul>
  4. 4. Punic Wars <ul><li>The first Punic War started in 264 B.C. Rome sent troops to Sicily.A island that’s just off the southern tip of Italy. </li></ul><ul><li>A general named Hannibal left Spain to start the second Punic War.He planned to invaded Rome through the alps. </li></ul><ul><li>The third Punic War started in 149 B.C when the roman’s sent troops to burn Carthage to the ground. </li></ul>

Expantion of Christianity <ul><li>In the beginning of Christianity most Christians came from Jewish beliefs but later the Christians were forced to leave there home Jerusalem. </li></ul><ul><li>Some people believed that Christians should be arrested or killed for there belief. </li></ul><ul><li>Some ways that help Christianity spread was the roads and Pax Romania which made it safer for Christians </li></ul>

Greek Gods <ul><li>The myths about gods and goddesses was considered a religion to ancient Greeks. </li></ul><ul><li>Greeks conducted rituals and sacrifices to make sure the gods were pleased. </li></ul><ul><li>Greeks believed that the gods controlled all aspects of there lives like healing the sick and winning battles. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Etruscans Mysticism <ul><li>Etruscans believed that the gods gave sign’s in nature. </li></ul><ul><li>The Etruscans tried to interpret lighting before going in to battle. </li></ul><ul><li>Etruscans thought they could predict good harvests by studying bird folks. </li></ul>

Belief of Christianity <ul><li>Christians believed that whatever Jesus said was true and believed that his death was no accident it was a punishment for the wrong things they had done. </li></ul><ul><li>One key belief was that everyone has a spirit or soul and it was distinct from the body. </li></ul><ul><li>Christians believed that if you did a sin you would need gods forgiveness to go to heaven. </li></ul>

  12. 12. Aqueducts <ul><li>Roman engineers designed a water system to supply towns with clean water. </li></ul><ul><li>They built aqueducts to move water from mountains springs to the plains below. </li></ul><ul><li>Roman aqueducts kinda looked like a long bridge. </li></ul>

Construction of Roads <ul><li>Roman roads allowed a great number of traders and soldiers to travel. </li></ul><ul><li>Traders could now travel city to city trying to sell all there stuff easily </li></ul><ul><li>A layer of large flat stones would lay at the bottom of the road bed. </li></ul>

Technology and Science <ul><li>Under roman rule science and mathematics continued to develop </li></ul><ul><li>In a famous book it showed that earth was the center of the universe using math. </li></ul><ul><li>Hypata was a famous teacher who was killed by Christians because they became suppose of her science. </li></ul>

Many homes had decorative wall murals. </li></ul><ul><li>Statues of gods and officials stood in temples and public places. </li></ul><ul><li>Greek artist tried to show perfect beauty Romans were more realistic. </li></ul>

  18. 18. Republic <ul><li>The republic was the most successful way to rule the empire. </li></ul><ul><li>Republic let the people chose who would rule since 90% of population was poor. </li></ul><ul><li>The republic lasted over 100 years but it finally fell. </li></ul>
  19. 19. Julius Ceaser <ul><li>Julius was a famous lawyer and politician. </li></ul><ul><li>Julius became popular with the poor and people on senate became worried about his power. </li></ul><ul><li>Soon the senate thought Julius want to become emperor so they had him killed. </li></ul>
  20. 20. Political Violence <ul><li>There was always a debate to decided who would be emperor. </li></ul><ul><li>The praetorian guard was in charge of choosing who was emperor. </li></ul><ul><li>Over 100 years there were 37 emperors and 25 would be killed. </li></ul>

Slavery <ul><li>Slavery in ancient Rome wasn’t as bad as slavery when we think of it people became slaves when they couldn’t pay taxes. </li></ul><ul><li>Other slaves came from wars carthage gave Rome many slaves. </li></ul><ul><li>Some parent sold there children into slavery that only happen as punishment if the child did some thing that bad. </li></ul>

  24. 24. Inflation <ul><li>When Rome stopped conquering lands not as much gold came in. </li></ul><ul><li>Most gold that they had was spent on luxurious items. </li></ul><ul><li>So the value the coin went down and prices went up. </li></ul>

  31. 31. Conclusion <ul><li>The most important thing I learned was all the mistakes the Roman government made because it shows what we need to change in our government. So we don’t end up like Ancient Rome. </li></ul>
