3CPE_RECONCILIATION

 1. 1. “ Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained” (John 20:22-23). ”
 2. 2. What is Sacrament of Reconciliation ?

is the method by which INDIVIDUAL MEN AND WOMEN may be freed from sins committed after receiving the Sacrament of Baptism.

 3. 3. Purpose of Sacrament of Reconciliation

Reconciling of man to God is the purpose of Confession. When we sin, we deprive ourselves of God’s grace. And by doing so, we make it even easier to sin some more. The only way out of this downward cycle is to acknowledge our sins, to repent of them, and to ask God’s forgiveness. Then, in the Sacrament of Confession, grace can be restored to our souls, and we can once again resist sin.

 4. 4. Types of Sins

VENIAL SIN

An offense that is judged to be minor or committed without deliberate intent and thus does not estrange the soul from the grace of God.

MORTAL SIN

is a sin, such as murder or blasphemy, that is so heinous it deprives the soul of sanctifying grace and causes damnation if unpardoned at the time of death.

 5. 5. Steps how to confess

Before Confession

Before approaching the priest:

1. Pray. Ask for God's help.

2. Think about what it is you want to say sorry for.

3. Express sorrow for sin.

 6. 6. Steps how to confess

At Confession

When you have approached the priest:

1. Make the sign of the cross with the priest.

2. Say how long it's been since your last confession.

3. Name your sins in your own words.

4. Tell the priest when you have finished.

5. Listen to the priest. He will give you a penance.

6. Say the Act of Contrition or any prayer of sorrow for sin.

7. Listen to the priest say the beautiful prayer of forgiveness.

8. Return to your place.

 7. 7. Steps how to confess

After Confession

When you have returned to your seat:

1. Say the penance prayer you have been given.

2. Thank God for his forgiving love.

3. Resolve to embrace the new life God gives.

4. Rejoice and be glad! You are a new creation!

 8. 8. Act of Contrition

is a prayer that expresses sorrow for sins.

EXAMPLE OF ACT OF CONTRITION

O My God, because you are so good,

I am very sorry that I have sinned against you.

With the help of your grace,

I will try not to sin again. Amen.

 9. 9. Absolution

Absolution is an integral part of the sacrament of penance. The penitent makes a sacramental confession of all mortal sins to a priest and prays an act of contrition. The priest then assigns a penance and imparts absolution in the name of the Trinity, on behalf of Christ Himself, using a fixed sacramental formula:

 10. 10. Example of the Absolution of the Priest

“ May our Lord Jesus Christ absolve you; and by His authority I absolve you from every bond of excommunication (suspension) and interdict, so far as my power allows and your needs require. [making the Sign of the Cross:] Thereupon, I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.”
