In this workshop, outcome of the joint research by IIUM and SESRIC will be presented on an integrated Waqf based IMF model to
optimize the use of combined resources of Waqf and IMF institutions in OIC member countries by raising the following questions:
What are the challenges in channeling Waqf resources via Microfinance institutions/NGOs or other related institutions?
How to address various challenges of Islamic microfinance (cost of capital, access to capital, equity based modes of transaction etc.)
through the integrated model?
To what extent can waqf resources contribute to human resource development?
How can “Takaful” tackle personal risk, business risk of the clients?
How can “Project Financing” contribute to the economic welfare of the clients?
How viable is the integrated model to address the aforementioned issues?
What will be the challenges in implementing the integrated model in practice and how to solve those? How this model can be
presented as a product for poverty alleviation?
