Nathaly discovered a lump in her breast on New Year's Eve 2003 at age 35. She underwent lumpectomies to remove the cancer, followed by chemotherapy every two weeks for four months. This was a difficult time as she experienced many unpleasant side effects from the chemotherapy drugs. In July 2004 she had a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction to prevent cancer reoccurrence. Nathaly maintained a positive outlook throughout her cancer battle and treatments.
