  2. 2. Dimensional Analysis Dimensional analysis – the technique of converting between units Conversion factor – an equation (or fraction) always equal to 1
  3. 3. Examples…  How many liters are in a kiloliter?  How many milligrams are in a gram?  How many centimeters are in a meter?
  4. 4. Conversion Factors Consist of two equal values on the top and bottom of a fraction. Example: 100 centimeters ------------------ 1 meter
  5. 5. Steps for Converting1. On the left, write an “x” followed by the unit you are looking for.2. Next to that, write “=” and write the value and unit you are given.
  6. 6. Steps for Converting 3. Choose a conversion factor that relates those two units. 4. Place the value with the unit you HAVE on the bottom and the value with the unit you ARE LOOKING for on the top.
  7. 7. Steps for Converting5. Cancel units.6. Multiply by top numbers. Divide by bottom.7. Write your answer on the right side.8. CIRCLE IT!
  8. 8. EXAMPLE!!!!! Convert 56 cm to meters. This problem could also be written as “56 cm is how many meters?”
  9. 9. EXAMPLE!!!!! Convert 7 milliliters to liters. This problem could also be written as “How many liters are in 7 milliliters?”
  10. 10.  2.5 miles is equal to how many feet? Happy first “A” bell of the year! How many seconds long is an “A” bell? (It’s 45 minutes.)
