  4. 4. What is TRIZ ?“TRIZ (Теория решения изобретательских задач,Teoriya Resheniya Izobretatelskikh Zadatch) is "aproblem-solving, analysis and forecasting toolderived from the study of patterns of invention inthe global patent literature". It was developed by theSoviet inventor and science fiction author GenrichAltshuller and his colleagues, beginning in 1946. InEnglish the name is typically rendered as the Theory ofI n v e n t i v e P r o b l e m S o l v i n g . ” 4

  10. 10. What is Six Thinking Hats ?The de Bono Hats system (also known as"Six Hats" or "Six Thinking Hats") is a thinkingtool for group discussion and individualthinking. Combined with the idea of parallelthinking which is associated with it, it providesa means for groups to think together moreeffectively, and a means to plan thinkingprocesses in a detailed and cohesive way.The method is attributed to Dr. Edward deBono and is the subject of his book,Six Thinking Hats. 10

  14. 14. What is Lateral Thinking ?Lateral thinking is solving problems throughan indirect and creative approach, usingreasoning that is not immediately obvious andinvolving ideas that may not be obtainable byusing only traditional step-by-step logic. Theterm lateral thinking was coined by Edward deBono in the book New Think: The Use ofLateral Thinking published in 1967. 14
  15. 15. Tools available …Random Entry Idea Generating Tool: Choose an object at random, or a noun from adictionary, and associate that with the area you are thinking about. For example imagine you are thinking about how to improve a web site. Choosing an object at randomfrom an office you might see a fax machine. A fax machine transmits images over the phone to paper.Fax machines are becoming rare. People send faxes directly to phone numbers. Perhaps this could bea new way to embed the web sites content in emails and other sites.Provocation Idea Generating Tool: choose to use any of the provocation techniques—wishful thinking, exaggeration, reversal, escape, distortion, or arising. Create a list of provocations andthen use the most outlandish ones to move your thinking forward to new ideas.Movement Techniques: develop provocation operations by the following methods: extract aprinciple, focus on the difference, moment to moment (simulate po realization), positive aspects, specialcircumstances (po immediate use).Challenge Idea Generating Tool: A tool which is designed to ask the question "Why?" in anon-threatening way: why something exists, why it is done the way it is. The result is a very clearunderstanding of "Why?" which naturally leads to fresh new ideas. The goal is to be able to challengeanything at all, not just items which are problems. For example you could challenge the handles on coffee cups. The reason for the handle seems to bethat the cup is often too hot to hold directly. Perhaps coffee cups could be made with insulated fingergrips, or there could be separate coffee cup holders similar to beer holders.Concept Fan Idea Generating Tool: Ideas carry out concepts. This tool systematicallyexpands the range and number of concepts in order to end up with a very broad range of ideas toconsider. 15

  19. 19. What is Mind Map ?A mind map is a diagram used to representwords, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to andarranged around a central key word or idea.Mind maps are used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid tostudying and organizing information, solvingproblems, making decisions, and writing. 19
