Prosthetic limb using acupuncture

  1. 1. PROSTHETIC ARM USING ACUPUNCTURE/ACUPRESS URE
  2. 2. WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE? • STAB YOURSELF WITH A DAGGER. (ON A MINUTE SCALE) • ACUPUNCTURE INVOLVES THE INSERTION OF VERY THIN NEEDLES THROUGH THE PATIENT'S SKIN AT SPECIFIC POINTS ON THE BODY THE NEEDLES ARE INSERTED TO VARIOUS DEPTHS. • ACUPRESSURE IS SIMILAR BUT INVOLVES APPLYING PRESSURE ON CERTAIN PARTS OF THE PATIENT’S BODY
  3. 3. SPECIFICATIONS…(SCOPE OF THE PROJECT) • PEOPLE WITH COMPLETE ARM BUT DEAD MUSCLES. ( RECENTLY AFFECTED ) • WE HAVE KEPT IN MIND THAT PROSTHETIC LIMBS ARE EXPENSIVE SO THIS IMPROVEMENT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE BUT FOR THOSE WHO CAN AFFORD THE TREATMENT.
  4. 4. HISTORY • WHAT KIND OF PROSTHETIC LIMBS HAVE BEEN USED SO FAR? • MUSCLE MOVEMENT INTERFACE (TYPE A & TYPE B) • BRAIN INTERFACE PROSTHETIC LIMB
  5. 5. OUR IDEA • USING ACUPUNCTURE/ACUPRESSURE TO STIMULATE MUSCLE TENDONS CAUSING THE MUSCLE TO MOVE. • THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY AN EXOSKELETON OR A BAND COVERING EACH TENDON
  6. 6. IMPROVEMENT • MULTI TASKING • FASTER RESPONSE • STRONGER GRIP
  7. 7. POSSIBLE PROBLEMS • MUSCLE DAMAGE FROM CONTINUOUS INSERTION OF NEEDLES • COST • IN CASE OF ACCIDENT THE DAMAGE CAN BE DISASTROUS. • NOT APPLICABLE FOR EVERY KIND OF HANDICAP
  8. 8. SPECIAL THANKS • SIR TALHA SHAHID • SIR AHMED RIAZ KHAN
  9. 9. THANK YOU
