July 9, 2009 Teacher Training Book 1 July 10 - 17, 2009 Teacher Training Book 2 July 13 - 17, 2009 Register online at This year’s theme is Baroque on the Bow The institute provides an opportunity for participants to study the philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki with highly qualified and motivational teachers.

Baroque on the Bow ASSI participants will leave the institute this summer with a greater appreciation and understanding of the Baroque time period and the great composers such as Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi. Suzuki students have first-hand experience with the literature of these masters and further exploration will enhance their appreciation of the works they have already performed and/or will soon be performing.
  4. 4. Baroque on the Bow Participants will have exposure to the instruments of the Baroque time period and the string family of this era. The famous dance pieces so common in the Suzuki literature will come alive as students learn, for example, what the Minuet steps feel like and how the music fits with the movement. Teacher Development The 2009 Alberta Suzuki String Institute is delighted to offer both Suzuki Violin Book 1 and Suzuki Violin Book 2 training along with the prerequisite course, Every Child Can! Every Child Can! – Michele Higa George, July 9 Violin Book 1 - Michele Higa George, July 10 to 17. Violin Book 2 - Sue Levine, July 13 to 17 The Institute promises to be an excellent learning experience for teachers through taking part in one of our Short-Term Teacher Training courses.

  7. 7. Options and Special Events All students, Book 1 and up, have the opportunity to participate in a daily option class that will enhance their musical learning while having a great time! Music, Rhythm Celtic Harp Baroque Dance Musical Theatre & Dance Other highlights of the institute will include a Kick-off Pancake Breakfast, Student Recitals, Chamber Recital, Faculty Recital, Parent Lectures and presentations and the Final Celebration Concert at the Rosza Centre's Eckhardt-Gramatte Hall with a reception to follow in the Great Hall on the University of Calgary campus.
