PRE-DEPARTURE <ul><li>Make a checklist (toiletries, clothes, important info) </li></ul><ul><li>Contact banks and credit cards so they know you will be using it out of the country. </li></ul><ul><li>Photocopies of important documents, came in handy </li></ul><ul><li>Packed towels, purchased phone and sheets there. I purchased adapters and convertors prior to leaving. </li></ul><ul><li>AIFS gives a check list of items you wouldn’t think to bring. Have all important contacts and information with you at all times. </li></ul>

BULA, WELCOME TO NADI, FIJI! <ul><li>Landed February 5, 2009 from Qantas Airways </li></ul><ul><li>Stayed for 10 days </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Spent three days at Hexagon International-Nadi. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>One week with homestay family in Suva </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Took one course at University of South Pacific-Suva </li></ul></ul>
  4. 4. ORIENTATION?! <ul><li>Eco-Tour </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Waterfall jumping, rainforest rain and mosquitos. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Community involvement at squatters settlement </li></ul><ul><li>Food </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Bananas, bread, pineapple juice, and bottled Fiji Water. </li></ul></ul>

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH PACIFIC AND HOMESTAY <ul><li>Welcoming Ceremony </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Bula! and ceremonial drink of Kava. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>One course in 5 days and then community service and other activities. </li></ul><ul><li>Homestay was: two sisters, brother, divorced mother and father. </li></ul>

  7. 7. MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY <ul><li>Located right outside of Sydney in Marsfield, short walk to Mall that is next to train station. Bus stations everywhere. </li></ul><ul><li>Organized, large, diverse on a beautiful campus. </li></ul><ul><li>STA Travel on Campus </li></ul><ul><li>Lived in University Village </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Consisted of a kitchen, dining room, living room with appliances, cutlery and furniture. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>5 bedrooms all with own bathroom, big closet and shower. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>We are all split up but together and able to meet others from different programs, countries and the Australian natives. </li></ul></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>Huge campus, little town with mall right near it, buses run in and out of there but still university feel. </li></ul>CANT COMPARE TO SNHU WITH 40,000 STUDENTS
  9. 9. CITY LIFE OF SYDNEY <ul><li>All public transportation-AIFS gave us travel ten bus passes once a month. </li></ul><ul><li>Cabs are expensive. Bars close between 3 and 5 am and the last bus is around 3. </li></ul><ul><li>Clean and safe. Friendly. Always bad areas. </li></ul><ul><li>Many suburbs/places to visit </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Manly Beach Paddy’s Market </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Bondi Beach Darling Harbour </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Taronga Zoo Centennial Park </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>One of the best views of Sydney </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Watson’s Bay </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Opera House/Botanical Gardens </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The Rocks </li></ul></ul>
