How can changes to the wholesale electricity market in Europe improve flexibility? What opportunities do changes create for innovators, technology providers, market participants and network operators? We need increased electricity system flexibility to enhance and accelerate the integration of renewable energy in the European energy sector. Markets and regulations are changing to encourage greater system flexibility: these changes will create opportunities for new business models through commercial innovation and emerging technologies. This presentation will provide an overview of changes to markets and regulation that support the transition to a flexible network in Europe. It will describe commercial and highlight barriers that prevent greater system flexibility in Europe. It will include a summary of an expert survey on energy system flexibility and will present key findings from analysis on the regulatory frameworks, wholesale market design, and future business models. The presentation is part of the FLEXITRANSTORE project, a four-year project funded by the EU H2020 programme
