Taking a Look at Chalino Sanchez
I. Background Chalino Sanchez was born and raised in la Chilla known as "el rancho" the ranch.
Chalino had six brothers, and a sister, named Juana. Chalino lost his father at age six, and lived in
poverty at a young age with his mother Sannorina Felix. and siblings. It was always a struggle they
either had to pick tomatoes or become a drug trafficker in Sinaloa. Chalino would tell his mother
"don't worry, with my body and voice in California you will not be without" page 23 in the book "A
Chronicle Play of Fulgor and Death". In a world so cold that "blood burns like fire" and the only
way to get someone back is to revenge. Chalino never thought his arrival to California was going to
be in a blink of an eye. Chalino persuaded the American dream he promised his mother that when he
moved to California he would make it to the spot light, using his voice and body. Keeping in mind
his sister's rape. He wanted a better life, for his family than living the life in Mexico. Julian
Camacho Segura is the author of "A Chronicle Play of Fulgor and death." Julian Camacho Segura
journey began from Mexico, back to the United States. Julian was born in El Centro California in
1969, raised in Inglewood, California in the rancho Del Cantinela. "Julian says" Most of the book is
fiction but a lot is not because Chalino did, for example, buy cassettes in Lennox where his
grandfather saw him because the ladies would sell in front of the laundrymats where he worked,"
recalled Segura. Julian

Employment Discrimination In The Workplace
A lot of people in the world have a reason as to why they wake up early in the morning and come
out of the house, some sleep late at night while others have to stay online with their
machines.Majority do this to earn a living from their jobs.Different jobs have different schedules
and one has to keep their schedules right by doing what is expected according to their company
policy. This is what one has to read and understand, later sign with the employer for the work
schedule to kick off.Employers must treat all employees equally without discrimination and work
towards a specific goal which is company related. This is not the case to most companies. Some
companies tend to favor some employees while others discriminate and they end up ... Show more

My Experience At The Train Station
I first arrived in Spain this summer fresh off my first year at DU, traveling internationally for the
first time without my family, and ready to take on this new adventure into the unknown with my
friends. I knew just enough Spanish to get by, and I couldn't wait to explore the city and test the
limits of my comfort. I arrived at the train station in Santander, a small city on the northern coast of
Spain, with one of my best friends from DU, Morgan. We then found other DU students traveling
with us during this study abroad program, and met the program coordinator. Standing in the tiny
train station, with the local Spaniards passing us by and the sliding automatic doors letting in the
humid, warm air, the program coordinator explained to us the logistics of the program, some basic
information about Spanish customs, and introduced us to our host families. Morgan and I were
presented to our host mom and dad, an older Spanish couple named Luisi and Demetrio, we gave
the customary kisses on each cheek, and then we were off. Much of the first day passed by in an
overwhelming flurry of sights, sounds, smells – as they drove, Luisi chatted about the city and their
lives there. We arrived at a house, small by US standards, but large by European. A few chickens
wandered in the yard in the front, three dogs greeted us as we approached the house, and two more
were waiting inside. Everything was perfect and I was in love. However, this feeling didn't last for
long. With our halting,

Positive Effects Of Gentrification
Many cities have been rejuvenated throughout the world. Santa Ana located in California, has been
one of the victims of gentrification. The most affected area is Downtown Santa Ana. Fourth Street
has been used to exemplify how gentrification works. Downtown Santa Ana has been almost
completely modified. Gentrification has it's positive effects just like it has it's negative effects. The
negative consequences include displacement, loss of cultural identity, and increasing rent. First of
all, one of the reasons to why gentrifiers should stop the process of modifying cities is displacement.
Displacement is a bad consequence because buildings are being placed in a bad neighborhood. For
example, Source 4 includes a link to a poem about a crime that took place in the San Francisco's
mission district, three latino immigrants were brutally beat and injured by a white man with a
crowbar. He is the owner of a brand new bar on 16th street. A man named Paul Flores wrote a poem
to address the problems that gentrification has caused in our cities. In his poem he repeatedly asks,
"Are you doing that crowbar thing?" He then mentions, "Doing that Forget about El Centro del
Pueblo thing and volunteer at the pirate store instead thing?" This is clearly a great example of
displacement being a consequence of gentrification. The gentrifiers are so concentrated on making
money but don't realize that placing a building with a completely different background than the rest,
can result in

two female agents: Jessie B. Duckstein and Alaska P. Davidson, who both resigned within a few
months as part of the Bureau's reduction of force. In 1972, JoAnne Misko and Susan Malone were
the first two women to enter the FBI Academy. In 1978, Special Agent Christine Karpoch (Jung)
would become the first female firearms instructor–and she would shoot the coveted "possible," a

Filipino Immigration History
The Filipinos' existence in the United States is way beyond the word "illegal" nor "alien." However,
one can rarely enter into a discussion about Filipino immigrants without hearing the term "illegal
alien." As a Filipino immigrant who legally migrated to the United States, I think such term is
outright offensive and dehumanizing, regardless of its "political correctness." Furthermore, as a
Filipino–American living in this country, I feel it is my responsibility to correct such term; however,
before I can correct such misconception about my fellow Filipinos, I needed to learn about our story
and how the Filipino Immigration in America began. So I traced our history, and in my research, I
focused solely on the first four waves of the Filipino ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such "changes" led to the third wave of Filipino immigration between the year 1945–1965.
Filipinos from the Philippines joined the U.S. Navy to battle against the Japanese. They were
permitted to join the navy because they were so–called "Nationals," meaning they were not
American citizens, nor were they undocumented migrants. In the Navy, many Filipinos were
appointed as "Designated TN", commonly known as "Steward Men." As a steward man, a Filipino
National in the U.S. Navy does more of a domestic job such as cleaning, cooking instead of
combating in the battlefield. Despite their status, the Filipinos fought side by side with the
Americans against the Japanese for freedom. Others contributed by acting as "civilians" involved in
the mobilization forces throughout the war. Toward the end of the war, the Filipinos had earned the
acknowledgment and profound respect of the American public. The Filipinos reclaimed their dignity
after many years of discrimination and racism. The 4th wave of the Filipino migration began after
the passing of the Immigration Act of 1965 and continues to the present day. This law allowed the
entry of as many as 20,000 immigrants annually. Today, with a total population of more than 1.4
million in 1990, Filipinos compose the second–largest Asian–American group and the second–
largest immigrant population in the United States (The Asian Population:

Immigration Policy in the United States:
The Effects of Mexican Immigration on the Legal Workforce
ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION
Immigration policy in the United States has been a facet of the political and policy arena for the past
couple decades. However, the issue of illegal immigration and whether or not a wall should be
constructed along the southern border of the United States has captivated the political arena. As
would be expected, the political side is not always aligned with the policy side because the political
side tends to be subjective in rhetoric and decision–making, and the policy side is largely objective
in decision–making. The essence of the political view on illegal immigration can be illustrated by
observing a recent speech by 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump. According to Key (2015),
Ann Coulter introduced Donald Trump at a rally and stated, I love the idea of the Great Wall of
Trump. I want to have a two drink minimum. Make it a big world–wide tourist attraction. And
everyday live drone shows whenever anyone tries to cross the border. I have not had this much hope

Influential People in My Life
In my seventeen years of life many events have helped me develop into the strapping young man I
am today. Despite the countless happenings that have influenced my being, only three have notably
impacted my life. These include the dichotomy between my life here in the United States and the
lives of my cousins in Mexico, the divorce of my parents and how I experienced that as a third
grader, and the introduction of four people into my life. These occurrences by no means have all
been positive, but they have helped influence my outlook on my life, my family, my friends, and my
faith. I am the child of Laura Elena Miramon and Miguel Chapa III. As a child, my mother lived in
the border city of Mexicali and my father in El Centro, California. In his earlier years of life, my
father moved to Mexicali then to the city that Mexicali bordered: Calexico. He later married my
mother and brought her to the United States. Unlike all the other branches of my parents' families,
only theirs managed to emigrate from Mexico into the United States of America. When I say
"branches", I mean immediate family. My father and his parents were the only ones to live in the
United States. My mother had a different situation, she married my father and moved to this country
leaving all her family (sisters, cousins, parents) back in Mexico. Fast forward a few years and in the
town of El Centro (the town right next to Calexico) an infant Miguel Chapa IV sleeps quietly in his
crib. Now this event may not

The Female Pilots Of The United States During World War II
During World War II, the United States had a shortage of pilots, and the leaders decided to train
women to fly military aircraft so male pilots could be released for combat duty overseas. The group
of female pilots was called the Women Airforce Service Pilots, WASP for short. Young women
between the ages of twenty–one to thirty–five, all civilian volunteers, flew almost every type of
military aircraft but were not considered to be formally militarized. The program began in 1942, and
was closed by 1944. But within this time frame, the female pilots flew sixty million miles in every
military aircraft and thirty–eight died while serving their country as Army Air Corps arsenal. It
wasn't until many years later that the WASPS were finally given acknowledgement of their services
and recognized as veterans of war. One member, Anne Chisholm Dessert Oliver, from Brandon
Manitoba, Canada tells her story of her experience as a member of the WASP's. Oliver, a French
Canadian with dual citizenship knew at an early age she wanted to fly. During a trip to Colorado
with her father, Oliver experienced her first flight at the county fair. It was at this moment she
decided she wanted to become a pilot. Oliver's father worked in the seed business and eventually
moved to El Centro, California, where Oliver would eventually begin her journey as an iconic
female pilot. Oliver and a friend bought shares in a small plane and began to take private lessons.
During this time, she had heard of the

THE REVOLUTIONARY OCCUPATION OF BEACON HILL SCHOOL
El Centro de la Raza is a big, old wooden building that was formerly Beacon Hill School. Probably
the kind of place where the first "Schoolhouse Rock" videos were played. But, through occupation
and solidarity, Beacon Hill School became a site of an entirely different kind of civic education. El
Centro de la Raza as we know it today, is the product of an unfaltering revolution.
The day of my service learning orientation, I got lost. And I felt not so much ashamed, as much as I

Carlos, the volunteer coordinator, expressing my excitement in a most professional way as to

Border Security Research Paper
After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, border security has escalated to an all–time high in order to protect
the United States' borders. Just eleven days after the 9/11 attacks, Pennsylvania Governor Tom
Ridge was appointed as the first ever director of Homeland Security inside of the white house. This
office oversaw the strategy to protect our country against terrorism and they would also respond to
any future attacks on our country. Shortly after the Department of Homeland Security was created,
the US also created the Customs and Border Protection, also known as CBP. (Department of

people to stop smuggling drugs into the U.S., or missing it at check points and letting it into our

the Border Patrol are playing a large role in stopping drug trafficking into our country. (The Center

Article Summary of What Lies Beneath in America? USArray is a huge seismology project. The
purpose is to basically take an ultrasound of the contiguous United States to understand the past and
possibly the future of what goes on underneath the surface. Our current picture is mostly blurry, full
of educated guesses and theories. By capturing all the sounds underneath and on the earth's surface,
a 3D picture will emerge that will clear the picture for us dramatically. We will be able to see what
goes on underground all the way to where the mantle touches the core, maybe even further
(Courtland, 2009).
The project consists of 400 seismometers that are buried underground in a remote, quiet place for 2
years, power by the sun. The seismological readings are continuously being relayed by satellite to a
center in Seattle. These seismometers are about 70 kilometers apart. After 2 years, they get pulled
and buried again more eastward eventually reading the entire contiguous states. After many years,
we get have a clear picture of what goes on underneath. A total of 1624 sites are planned (Courtland,
2009).
2004 in California was the beginning of the project. During the writing of Courtland's article, it was
covering the Rocky Mountains. The plan moves eastward covering the entire vertical area as it
moves along. While covering the Rocky Mountains, it

Chicano Theatre
Midterm Report
THEATRE 100
Chicano Theatres
Chicano Theatre is a relatively young genre of theatre in comparison to the traditional theatre that
date back centuries. It was in the 1960's that the term Chicano became prevalent in the United
States. Chicano is used only of Mexican Americans, not of Mexicans living in Mexico. It was
originally an informal term in English (as in Spanish), and the spelling of the first recorded instance
in an American publication followed the Spanish custom of lowercasing nouns of national or ethnic
origin (The Free Dictionary 2003). The transition of the meaning Chicano has varied throughout the
decades, but it still holds its politically charged roots strong. The inspiration of Chicano ... Show

I believe that this was the intention of Valdez, who put together this genre in hopes of connecting to
people who were not necessarily around to see the everyday struggle of the Chicano people. My
assumptions were right in regards to the material that would be covered and the overall production
of Chicano Theatre. I felt that the biggest part of the theatre would be to reveal major milestones in
the culture, to celebrate independence and equality and to promote and spread the word to different
generations and races about how the world has evolved over time. Through this perspective I have
found much interest in this particular genre of theatre. In fact, I enjoyed researching the theatre and
related topics so much that I found myself often digressing away from one point and diving into
another topic dealing with the culture. Needless to say I spent a great deal of hours learning about
the culture in whole, and I can appreciate the work that goes into their production. I am grateful to
have such a great opportunity to watch live performances locally; living in California gives all of us
residents' opportunity to witness in person these events because this is the birthplace of Chicano
Theatre. I share great pleasure in the fact that not only is this form of art so close to home; it is also
in its beginning stages, which leaves a lot of room for change, interpretation and documentation.

Angela Whittekiend, my own mother, graciously allowed me to conduct an interview with her
regarding her experience with her first pregnancy. My mom planned both of her pregnancies, she
explained that during that time it was just normal to get married and have children. It felt like the
right thing to do, so one day my father and her decided to conceive. Neither my mother or my father
struggled with infertility, a challenge that 15 percent of parents face, and they were able to easily get
pregnant. My mother waited until she missed her period to go into the doctor, at the time they lived

Her strongest memory from pregnancy was her body changing, specifically finding her nipples
developing hole, she was surprised to learn that stuff really does come out of it. My mom did her
best to take care of the baby inside of her, she did her best to eat right and took her vitamins. She
went on to tell me about a day she forgot to take her vitamins and in a panic, hastily ate a whole can
of green beans. A mother's health directly affects the fetus inside her, what she eats and even how
she is affected by stress and depression can cause cause developmental issues in pregnancy. So I'm
happy that she ate those green beans! The only thing she struggled with was smoking. Smoking
reduces the oxygen that reaches the fetus this can cause problems such as increased heart rate.
Smokin also increases the chances of having a miscarriage or giving birth to a baby with a low birth
weight. At the time it was fairly normal for people to smoke during pregnancy as there was not as
much information as there is today on the topic. Regardless, my mother and I were both lucky we

The Widespread Adoption Of Information Technology Essay
The widespread adoption of information technology (IT) has resulted in significant savings in health
care costs as well as improved patient health and safety. Today in healthcare facilities, databases
store records that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. This results in better data
coordination and management (Banova, 2013). The benefits of increased use of IT continues to
grow as leaders in the field of medicine create innovative ways to use IT to improve the business
and health care side of medicine. IT has increased the efficiency and decreased the cost of doing
business. This leads to dollars and an increase in overall patient quality which is critical with the
changes in the reimbursement models from CMS ("Benefits of Healthcare", 2015).
The city of San Diego as the need and push for IT implementation has grown made a large
technology investment and created a health information exchange (HIE). San Diego Health Connect
began in efforts to improve healthcare in the San Diego community spearheaded by the University
of California. In April 2010, UC San Diego received a grant from the Office of the National
Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) on behalf of the community. They named
this the Beacon community. The HIE is a vast network of healthcare providers and social services
("San Diego Health Connect", 2015).
The HIE quickly grew membership and the participation of the major health systems in San Diego
and members continue to grow today. In early

Animal Abuse Among The Audience
General Purpose: To Inform
Specific Purpose: Create awareness among the audience
Central Idea: Animal abuse growing rapidly and I am going to give you information on what is
considered animal abuse and what we can do to stop it.
Introduction
I. Attention Material
a) Raise your hand if you've had any type of pet growing up, rather it be a dog, a cat, or even a bird.
I bet you felt like your pet was a part of your family. You loved your pet, you would do anything for
your pet, am I correct? Growing up I had many pets, dogs, cats, and even a goat.
b) 68% percent of U.S. households, which is about 82.5 million families, own a pet, according to the
2013–2014 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association
(APPA). This percentage is up by 56 percent of households since 1988, which was the first year the
survey was conducted.
c) Based on numbers from pet–abuse.com, of 1,880 cruelty cases reported in the media in 2007,
64.5 percent (1,212) involved dogs (25 percent of these were identified as pit–bull–type breeds) 18
percent (337) involved cats and 25 percent (470) involved other animals.
d) Did you know about 10.2 million women and men are physically assaulted by an intimate partner

The primary market of this organization is the uninsured population residing in the Imperial valley.
In the Imperial valley, many of the jobs that are available are based on agriculture. These jobs are
often seasonal leaving many workers unemployed during a portion of the year. As of March 2009,
the unemployment rate of this area was 25.1%. This was the highest rate of any area that had a
minimum of 50,000 people, in the entire United States (Perry, 2009). For this reason, many
individuals do not have the option of employer–based insurance and are unable to pay for private
insurance. These individuals are the ones in need of health care but are either turned away and or are

Therefore, it benefits the clinics, which are reimbursed through the insurances, as well as the
individuals who save time and money. The secondary market for the wellness program will be the
Administration team of Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo. Not only will they be able to take part in the
program, they will be able to maintain the budget that has been set. As the employer, it is this team's
responsibility to make sure that health care costs are low, workplace incidents are minimal, and
long–term disability is reduced. Wellness programs have shown to be able to meet these
requirements while boosting the morale of employees, which benefits everyone. It has even been
said that the creation of such wellness programs benefits employers overall long–term health.
SOURCES OF INCOME While Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo runs nine separate clinics, they are

governmental payers, grants and donations, and self pay patients. The primary source of income for
the clinics is governmental payers. Elderly people who use these clinics are usually covered through

Illegal Immigration And Drug Smuggling
order to get these drugs into the U.S.
Drug smuggling has been an issue in the United States since the 1960s and the Border Patrol has
made many efforts to stop drugs from crossing our borders. The Purpose of the Border Patrol is to
secure and keep our borders safe. Recently their focus has been on illegal immigration and drug
smuggling. Drug smuggling has become an increasing issue and the efforts of the Border Patrol are
being pushed to stop these illegal activities. The influx of drugs into the U.S. has many effects on
our country as a whole and as smugglers get creative in finding new methods to get around the
Border Patrol, it becomes harder for them to stop it. This may be why it seems too easy to get drugs
across the border. With new techniques of smuggling it allows for more drugs to enter the U.S. and
it leave the Border Patrol on their toes and on a constant lookout for these new techniques.
The Border Patrol has existed in the United States since 1924, working to keep our country a safer
place. There were some methods of Border Patrol that existed before 1924 but they were not
professional or continuous. "Mounted watchmen of the U.S. Immigration Service patrolled the
border in an effort to prevent illegal crossings as early as 1904, but their efforts were irregular and
undertaken only when resources permitted" (Border, 2015). The patrol agents were called Mounted
Guards and operated out of El Paso, Texas at the time. Records show that there were as little as

I Want For Alpha Pi Alpha Sigma Pi Sigma
1. To start off, there are various factors that have motivated me and continue to motivate my desire
to be a member of Alpha Pi Sigma. For example, creating enduring bonds with girls around my age
that acknowledge my origins, culture and traditions. As well, an important motivation to join the
sorority is establishing a network of strong women who work hard to succeed and accomplish their
goals. Mainly, I know that by joining Alpha Pi Sigma I will not only find a group of friends but, a
study group and women ready to inspire one another to succeed. Another thing that motivates me is
being able to help the Latino community and perform philanthropist work aimed at cancer survivors
and patients. Lastly, a critical motivator is recognizing that through the sorority I will be able to
build amazing memories and learn more about myself and who I am.
2. To begin, there are numerous scholastic achievements that have made me and my family proud.
One of the most important scholastic achievement has been my acceptance to CSUSM. As a first
generation college student, my acceptance and determination to pursue a higher education has
become by far the most extraordinary scholastic achievement. Since my acceptance to CSUSM two

The overdose of the chemical came about because of a calculation error. Major had to destroy and
rebuild the pier and sued State for damages and State filed a cross–complaint alleging that Moffatt
did not use reasonable care in the approval of the design. Three attempts at pleads were made and it
was determined that Moffat was not in privity of contract with Major or State due to State being
subjected to the economic loss rule. Court Decision:
The court ruled that State could not sue for equitable indemnity or contribution based on the fact
that there was no evidence that Moffatt owed a duty of care or that Moffatt was negligent. The court
also determined that there was no contractual relationship between State and Major and that a
person or other property was not damaged. Based on the two core findings, all cross complaints
made by State are disregarded and State is found to be solely responsible for the damages. Moffatt is
also awarded costs on the appeal.
Further Actions: This case was the last appealed case of the series and therefore, no other actions
followed. This is because the judge affirmed the case as "an order sustaining demurrer without leave
to amend". This statement means that the plaintiff cannot amend the complaint.

have to work for, like any other person. It also explains how it is being an immigrant, and how it is
to grow up in the United States as in immigrant and how had it is, and the obstacles that as in
immigrant we have to overcome. Antonio Burciaga specifically talks in his book the Chicano
history, the language that we speak as a person, the family values and how we as a Chicano stick
together. One quote of Burciaga is "Naces pendejo, mueres pendejo ––– You were born a pendejo

Burciaga became a graphic illustrator and moved to California with this wife and began writing
critical assessments for numerous newspapers and journals. Arriving at Stanford University, the
Burciagaas were integral in helping to develop and support numerous Hispanic organizations
including El Centro Chicano, a local Latino student center. Mr. Burciaga is most famous for his
mural the "Last Supper of Chicano Heroes", which he painted at the university with the help of his
students. Burciaga is also famous for expressing the flaws of social and political systems and used
irony and satire to explore issues of racism and discrimination. (HispanicHeritage.Org). I believe
this book was included in the ethnic studies group curriculum because Burciaga was famous for
expressing the flaws of the government and politicians and people like Tom Horne saw that as a
threat.
In his "Open Letter to the Citizens of Tucson," Tom Horne explains why he believes ethnic studies
should be banned. Horne explains what happened at the Tucson magnet school when a Republican
Latina came to speak. Tom Horne writes, "Her speech was non–partisan and professional, urging

Technology, Abstraction and Ideas of Nature
Coming to terms with modern architecture, we must read through such seminal statements through
their sensibilities and societal myths which they exemplify. Now, we shall explore parallel themes to
do with new myths of modernity, poetic expressions of technology, the reemergence of abstraction,
and analogies between architecture and other realms such as minimalist sculpture, landscape art and
nature. Architecture oscillates between the unique and the typical where the old and new may
reunite in unexpected ways. Example, the Navarro Baldeweg's Congress Hall in Salamanca which

function. If this interconnections work on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Part from his exchange with painters, sculptors and conceptual artists, part from his direct
engagement with ordinary techniques of construction in which he found extraordinary possibilities
of expression. Spiller House in Vernice, California (1979) in which angled planes and tilting
volumes introduced visual tension and ambiguities while materials, as found, were handled in a
deliberately casual way which exposed the process of assembly. Another route towards
fragmentation and abstraction lay through the works of "neo–modernist" such as Richard Meier and
Bernard Tschumi. Richard Meier established a signature style that was characterized by layers of
wall planes and transparencies, fractured structural grids, interpenetrating ramps and space of vying
luminosity. All these devices were all on display in the Museum für Kunsthandwerk in Frankfurt
(1981–5). The Parc de La Villete (1984–9) by Bernard Tschumi revealed another aspect of the neo–
modernist stance. His basic strategy of co–ordinates, sinuous lines and boundaries suggested a
latter–day version of Kadinsky's elements of abstract painting or perhaps the score for an avant–
garde film in which the same shot–pieces were repeated in different montages. The site recalled past
mechanistic fantasies such as Tchernikov's sketches of around 1929. The cubic "follies" were like
giant toys scattered across the grass. Rem Koolhass's proposal for the Grande Bibliothèque

Graduation Speech : College Education
It has become apparent now more than ever that having a college education is an unavoidable
requisite in order to better ourselves. Every year thousands of students graduate high school and
start to enroll in college. Another key factor in the decision towards obtaining a college degree is the
example the young student saw at home; however, not all of the young students entering college
come from a family with college graduate parents, which can play as a huge motivation in their path
toward their college degree. Many people see this as the start of a new journey into the path of
success since most Americans grow up with the idea that a college education will help us better our
lives as well as to bring us success. According to Scott–Clayton from Columbia University,
"Individuals with bachelor's degrees earn about 60 percent more than those with just a high school
diploma." Today, we must not only acquire a high school education, but also graduate with a
Bachelor's degree. A college degree itself won't guarantee you success, but it would give you the
necessary tools and knowledge to achieve economic and personal success. In the future, the
knowledge you achieved from your college education will become beneficial in plenty of ways.
While a college degree may have its perks, there are definitely some drawbacks to it. One of those
drawbacks is the most definite one, its cost. According to College Board, "California's public
universities enacted the highest average tuition

Minimum Wage For The State Of California
At one point or another Americans have all had first jobs and those entry–level positions most
always consist of entry–level pay. Meaning an employee cannot be legally paid a cent less than what
is defined as minimum wage. Though every state has its own specific rate at which to pay its
employees, some margins between states differ more than others. In the state of California the
minimum wage is $10 per hour, for now that is. Government officials that take into account many
factors regarding the health of the economy now and in the future determine this rate. For many
people of the state that living wage is still not enough. So today the public has voted that the
minimum wage should be increased to $15 an hour. Seeing the benefits early ... Show more content

Whether your arguments are for or against the rise in minimum wage there's no way to perfect one
rate that suits well with all of California. Example, the wage needed for a high cost area like San
Francisco is going to be rather different than the wage a person would need in El Centro, which is
highest in the state for unemployment (Perry 2). Say one uses a slightly different approach, that $15
an hour is good for a place like San Francisco because local wages can support itself if the economy
were to go bad. That will not go off well if the same wage rate is in poverty stricken El Centro
because of the lack of financial support. The rise in wage will negatively affect those in less
fortunate communities. California being known for its forward thinking ideas, shall now become the
state with the most damaging public policies put into place. A support of this argument lays out the
main issue clearly, "When government artificially raises wages, it increases unemployment. Anyone
should be able to understand that when labor costs are increase by government force, businesses
often have no choice but to cut jobs if they are to remain profitable"("Authors of California" 2).
Exclaiming the main issue that businesses will do what they must to stay afloat. The ironically cruel
thing is that the ones that will be losing jobs were most likely the people completely for the wage
increases. George Mason

Pursuing An MPH Degree: Personal Statement
After I graduated from college, I was confused about what I wanted to do with my life. I decided
that I wanted to try something different so I went on a mission trip with my church to La Paz,
Bolivia. I decided to go on this trip because Bolivia is the poorest country in South America and I
realized it could be a great experience, especially after graduating with a Public Health degree.
While there, I saw a lot of poverty and sanitary needs that were not being met. The environmental
standards there are extremely detrimental to one's health, so much so that tourists are advised to
avoid real "Bolivian foods" as well as many of the restaurants because their sanitary standards are
much lower than the sanitary standards in the US. People there ... Show more content on

Why People Commit Crimes
There are different points of view of what is criminal behavior. Of course, each person has it own
opinion. Crime is the human conduct in violation of the criminal laws of a state, the federal
government, or a local jurisdiction that has the power to make such laws, according with
Schmalleger. The criminal behavior is the antisocial acts that a person commits for different reasons.
This means that the person violated laws constantly for a long or short time period. There are many
reasons why criminals commit crimes. Some of the criminals commit crimes for necessity, others

of the criminals come from poor families. For Sergio money is not the main issue in most cases
because some criminals have mental illness which could be treated with psychology. Moreover, he

He doesn't believe that social status influence in criminals. He believes it is more about mental
illness. He said, "There are criminals who commit crimes out of necessity like the poor, there are
criminals who commit for power like blue collar individuals, and there are the devious individuals
who commit crimes for pleasure." Some of the criminals continue to commit crimes because that's
the way they were thought to think, others continue because of dependency to survive. Sergio said,

When To Be A Pedestrian Essay

WHEN TO FILE A PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT CLAIM?
A pedestrian's safety is in jeopardy whenever a reckless driver hits the road. Pedestrians are often
left defenseless by irresponsible motorists, unfortunately resulting in accidents. Pedestrians deserve
the same amount of respect as vehicles on the road but rarely receive it.
Pedestrians should file an injury claim if they were hit by a driver. Serious injuries can be caused
even if a vehicle is operating at lower speeds. If you were injured in a pedestrian accident due to the
negligence or recklessness of a motorist, you have the right to financial compensation. Accidents

El Centro is the largest city in Imperial County with a population that's continuing to rise every year.
El Centro has a population of about 42,528. The rise in population in Imperial County specifically in
El Centro, contributes to the daily traffic and crosswalk congestion. Roads are packed with
pedestrians during lunch and rush hours, unfortunately resulting in accidents.
California holds pedestrians rights to a high standard, protecting them at all costs. According to
California Vehicle Code 21950(a), vehicles are required to yield to all pedestrians crossing labeled
crosswalks and pedestrians who are crossing at unmarked intersections. Therefore, It would not be
valid for the driver to argue that a pedestrian is wrong for crossing at unmarked intersections or
crosswalks. To receive compensation for your accident, victims must prove negligence on the
driver's behalf. We recommend that victims write the driver's license plate number, seek witnesses,
and take photos of the scene.

The Debate Over The Federal Minimum Wage
Over the past few years the debate over the raise of the federal minimum wage of the current $7.25
has been argued by both sides, whether it should be raised or not. With both side, the affirmative and
negative making strong arguments for their side. We will take a look at how each side frames their
issues as how well their counterpart can refute those claims. The affirmative would like to propose
the raise of the federal minimum wage to $12.00 by the year 2020; this is the standard that most
states are going with. For example, California being one of the most recent to change their federal
minimum wage to $12.00 by the year 2020. The negative would like to stay with the current federal
minimum wage of $7.25, in other words defend the status quo. We will look at all the major
arguments the affirmative and negative side have and in the end go with the best option for the
majority. Aristotle's three fundamental concepts will help determine what decision should be made
after each side of the public state their case. Aristotle's three fundamental concepts are truth and
probable truth, Ethos (Credibility), Pathos (Emotional Appeal), Logos (Logic), and his final
concept, it's all about the audience. So what exactly is the minimum wage and what is its purpose?

Taking A Look At Chalino Sanchez

  • 1. Taking a Look at Chalino Sanchez I. Background Chalino Sanchez was born and raised in la Chilla known as "el rancho" the ranch. Chalino had six brothers, and a sister, named Juana. Chalino lost his father at age six, and lived in poverty at a young age with his mother Sannorina Felix. and siblings. It was always a struggle they either had to pick tomatoes or become a drug trafficker in Sinaloa. Chalino would tell his mother "don't worry, with my body and voice in California you will not be without" page 23 in the book "A Chronicle Play of Fulgor and Death". In a world so cold that "blood burns like fire" and the only way to get someone back is to revenge. Chalino never thought his arrival to California was going to be in a blink of an eye. Chalino persuaded the American dream he promised his mother that when he moved to California he would make it to the spot light, using his voice and body. Keeping in mind his sister's rape. He wanted a better life, for his family than living the life in Mexico. Julian Camacho Segura is the author of "A Chronicle Play of Fulgor and death." Julian Camacho Segura journey began from Mexico, back to the United States. Julian was born in El Centro California in 1969, raised in Inglewood, California in the rancho Del Cantinela. "Julian says" Most of the book is fiction but a lot is not because Chalino did, for example, buy cassettes in Lennox where his grandfather saw him because the ladies would sell in front of the laundrymats where he worked," recalled Segura. • 6. My Experience At The Train Station I first arrived in Spain this summer fresh off my first year at DU, traveling internationally for the first time without my family, and ready to take on this new adventure into the unknown with my friends. I knew just enough Spanish to get by, and I couldn't wait to explore the city and test the limits of my comfort. I arrived at the train station in Santander, a small city on the northern coast of Spain, with one of my best friends from DU, Morgan. We then found other DU students traveling with us during this study abroad program, and met the program coordinator. Standing in the tiny train station, with the local Spaniards passing us by and the sliding automatic doors letting in the humid, warm air, the program coordinator explained to us the logistics of the program, some basic information about Spanish customs, and introduced us to our host families. Morgan and I were presented to our host mom and dad, an older Spanish couple named Luisi and Demetrio, we gave the customary kisses on each cheek, and then we were off. Much of the first day passed by in an overwhelming flurry of sights, sounds, smells – as they drove, Luisi chatted about the city and their lives there. We arrived at a house, small by US standards, but large by European. A few chickens wandered in the yard in the front, three dogs greeted us as we approached the house, and two more were waiting inside. Everything was perfect and I was in love. However, this feeling didn't last for long. With our halting, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Positive Effects Of Gentrification Many cities have been rejuvenated throughout the world. Santa Ana located in California, has been one of the victims of gentrification. The most affected area is Downtown Santa Ana. Fourth Street has been used to exemplify how gentrification works. Downtown Santa Ana has been almost completely modified. Gentrification has it's positive effects just like it has it's negative effects. The negative consequences include displacement, loss of cultural identity, and increasing rent. First of all, one of the reasons to why gentrifiers should stop the process of modifying cities is displacement. Displacement is a bad consequence because buildings are being placed in a bad neighborhood. For example, Source 4 includes a link to a poem about a crime that took place in the San Francisco's mission district, three latino immigrants were brutally beat and injured by a white man with a crowbar. He is the owner of a brand new bar on 16th street. A man named Paul Flores wrote a poem to address the problems that gentrification has caused in our cities. In his poem he repeatedly asks, "Are you doing that crowbar thing?" He then mentions, "Doing that Forget about El Centro del Pueblo thing and volunteer at the pirate store instead thing?" This is clearly a great example of displacement being a consequence of gentrification. The gentrifiers are so concentrated on making money but don't realize that placing a building with a completely different background than the rest, can result in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Filipino Immigration History The Filipinos' existence in the United States is way beyond the word "illegal" nor "alien." However, one can rarely enter into a discussion about Filipino immigrants without hearing the term "illegal alien." As a Filipino immigrant who legally migrated to the United States, I think such term is outright offensive and dehumanizing, regardless of its "political correctness." Furthermore, as a Filipino–American living in this country, I feel it is my responsibility to correct such term; however, before I can correct such misconception about my fellow Filipinos, I needed to learn about our story and how the Filipino Immigration in America began. So I traced our history, and in my research, I focused solely on the first four waves of the Filipino ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such "changes" led to the third wave of Filipino immigration between the year 1945–1965. Filipinos from the Philippines joined the U.S. Navy to battle against the Japanese. They were permitted to join the navy because they were so–called "Nationals," meaning they were not American citizens, nor were they undocumented migrants. In the Navy, many Filipinos were appointed as "Designated TN", commonly known as "Steward Men." As a steward man, a Filipino National in the U.S. Navy does more of a domestic job such as cleaning, cooking instead of combating in the battlefield. Despite their status, the Filipinos fought side by side with the Americans against the Japanese for freedom. Others contributed by acting as "civilians" involved in the mobilization forces throughout the war. Toward the end of the war, the Filipinos had earned the acknowledgment and profound respect of the American public. The Filipinos reclaimed their dignity after many years of discrimination and racism. The 4th wave of the Filipino migration began after the passing of the Immigration Act of 1965 and continues to the present day. This law allowed the entry of as many as 20,000 immigrants annually. Today, with a total population of more than 1.4 million in 1990, Filipinos compose the second–largest Asian–American group and the second– largest immigrant population in the United States (The Asian Population: ... Surfus, MBA, MPA Western Michigan University School of Public Affairs and Administration PADM–6840 Management of Public Financial Resources Professor Robert Peters, Ph.D. December 3, 2015 Immigration Policy in the United States: The Effects of Mexican Immigration on the Legal Workforce ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION Immigration policy in the United States has been a facet of the political and policy arena for the past couple decades. However, the issue of illegal immigration and whether or not a wall should be constructed along the southern border of the United States has captivated the political arena. As would be expected, the political side is not always aligned with the policy side because the political side tends to be subjective in rhetoric and decision–making, and the policy side is largely objective in decision–making. The essence of the political view on illegal immigration can be illustrated by observing a recent speech by 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump. According to Key (2015), Ann Coulter introduced Donald Trump at a rally and stated, I love the idea of the Great Wall of Trump. I want to have a two drink minimum. Make it a big world–wide tourist attraction. And everyday live drone shows whenever anyone tries to cross the border. I have not had this much hope ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Influential People in My Life In my seventeen years of life many events have helped me develop into the strapping young man I am today. Despite the countless happenings that have influenced my being, only three have notably impacted my life. These include the dichotomy between my life here in the United States and the lives of my cousins in Mexico, the divorce of my parents and how I experienced that as a third grader, and the introduction of four people into my life. These occurrences by no means have all been positive, but they have helped influence my outlook on my life, my family, my friends, and my faith. I am the child of Laura Elena Miramon and Miguel Chapa III. As a child, my mother lived in the border city of Mexicali and my father in El Centro, California. In his earlier years of life, my father moved to Mexicali then to the city that Mexicali bordered: Calexico. He later married my mother and brought her to the United States. Unlike all the other branches of my parents' families, only theirs managed to emigrate from Mexico into the United States of America. When I say "branches", I mean immediate family. My father and his parents were the only ones to live in the United States. My mother had a different situation, she married my father and moved to this country leaving all her family (sisters, cousins, parents) back in Mexico. Fast forward a few years and in the town of El Centro (the town right next to Calexico) an infant Miguel Chapa IV sleeps quietly in his crib. Now this event may not ... • 12. The Female Pilots Of The United States During World War II During World War II, the United States had a shortage of pilots, and the leaders decided to train women to fly military aircraft so male pilots could be released for combat duty overseas. The group of female pilots was called the Women Airforce Service Pilots, WASP for short. Young women between the ages of twenty–one to thirty–five, all civilian volunteers, flew almost every type of military aircraft but were not considered to be formally militarized. The program began in 1942, and was closed by 1944. But within this time frame, the female pilots flew sixty million miles in every military aircraft and thirty–eight died while serving their country as Army Air Corps arsenal. It wasn't until many years later that the WASPS were finally given acknowledgement of their services and recognized as veterans of war. One member, Anne Chisholm Dessert Oliver, from Brandon Manitoba, Canada tells her story of her experience as a member of the WASP's. Oliver, a French Canadian with dual citizenship knew at an early age she wanted to fly. During a trip to Colorado with her father, Oliver experienced her first flight at the county fair. It was at this moment she decided she wanted to become a pilot. Oliver's father worked in the seed business and eventually moved to El Centro, California, where Oliver would eventually begin her journey as an iconic female pilot. Oliver and a friend bought shares in a small plane and began to take private lessons. During this time, she had heard of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unpacking the social interactions that are occurring at the food bank speak to the pathways of community that begin, shift, and reify the participation in gastro–politics and symbolic commensality, as a means of immigrant place making. THE REVOLUTIONARY OCCUPATION OF BEACON HILL SCHOOL El Centro de la Raza is a big, old wooden building that was formerly Beacon Hill School. Probably the kind of place where the first "Schoolhouse Rock" videos were played. But, through occupation and solidarity, Beacon Hill School became a site of an entirely different kind of civic education. El Centro de la Raza as we know it today, is the product of an unfaltering revolution. The day of my service learning orientation, I got lost. And I felt not so much ashamed, as much as I felt as if my pride has been pricked. But, I was lost so I found myself scuttling down the hall on wooden paneled flooring has been buffed smooth from age and use. I had been corresponding with Carlos, the volunteer coordinator, expressing my excitement in a most professional way as to represent the University of Washington (the Carlson Center's words, not mine), so I slide to that room and rapidly open the door because I'm late and the service learning guide said explicitly to treat the volunteer site like, "going ... Submitted by Dina Martinez El Centro College GEOL 1401, Section 51426, Fall 2014 Article Summary of What Lies Beneath in America? USArray is a huge seismology project. The purpose is to basically take an ultrasound of the contiguous United States to understand the past and possibly the future of what goes on underneath the surface. Our current picture is mostly blurry, full of educated guesses and theories. By capturing all the sounds underneath and on the earth's surface, a 3D picture will emerge that will clear the picture for us dramatically. We will be able to see what goes on underground all the way to where the mantle touches the core, maybe even further (Courtland, 2009). The project consists of 400 seismometers that are buried underground in a remote, quiet place for 2 years, power by the sun. The seismological readings are continuously being relayed by satellite to a center in Seattle. These seismometers are about 70 kilometers apart. After 2 years, they get pulled and buried again more eastward eventually reading the entire contiguous states. After many years, we get have a clear picture of what goes on underneath. A total of 1624 sites are planned (Courtland, 2009). 2004 in California was the beginning of the project. During the writing of Courtland's article, it was covering the Rocky Mountains. It was in the 1960's that the term Chicano became prevalent in the United States. Chicano is used only of Mexican Americans, not of Mexicans living in Mexico. It was originally an informal term in English (as in Spanish), and the spelling of the first recorded instance in an American publication followed the Spanish custom of lowercasing nouns of national or ethnic origin (The Free Dictionary 2003). The transition of the meaning Chicano has varied throughout the decades, but it still holds its politically charged roots strong. The inspiration of Chicano ... I believe that this was the intention of Valdez, who put together this genre in hopes of connecting to people who were not necessarily around to see the everyday struggle of the Chicano people. My assumptions were right in regards to the material that would be covered and the overall production of Chicano Theatre. I felt that the biggest part of the theatre would be to reveal major milestones in the culture, to celebrate independence and equality and to promote and spread the word to different generations and races about how the world has evolved over time. Through this perspective I have found much interest in this particular genre of theatre. In fact, I enjoyed researching the theatre and related topics so much that I found myself often digressing away from one point and diving into another topic dealing with the culture. Needless to say I spent a great deal of hours learning about the culture in whole, and I can appreciate the work that goes into their production. I am grateful to have such a great opportunity to watch live performances locally; living in California gives all of us residents' opportunity to witness in person these events because this is the birthplace of Chicano Theatre. • 20. The Widespread Adoption Of Information Technology Essay The widespread adoption of information technology (IT) has resulted in significant savings in health care costs as well as improved patient health and safety. Today in healthcare facilities, databases store records that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. This results in better data coordination and management (Banova, 2013). The benefits of increased use of IT continues to grow as leaders in the field of medicine create innovative ways to use IT to improve the business and health care side of medicine. IT has increased the efficiency and decreased the cost of doing business. This leads to dollars and an increase in overall patient quality which is critical with the changes in the reimbursement models from CMS ("Benefits of Healthcare", 2015). The city of San Diego as the need and push for IT implementation has grown made a large technology investment and created a health information exchange (HIE). Illegal Immigration And Drug Smuggling order to get these drugs into the U.S. Drug smuggling has been an issue in the United States since the 1960s and the Border Patrol has made many efforts to stop drugs from crossing our borders. The Purpose of the Border Patrol is to secure and keep our borders safe. Recently their focus has been on illegal immigration and drug smuggling. Drug smuggling has become an increasing issue and the efforts of the Border Patrol are being pushed to stop these illegal activities. The influx of drugs into the U.S. has many effects on our country as a whole and as smugglers get creative in finding new methods to get around the Border Patrol, it becomes harder for them to stop it. Court Decision: The court ruled that State could not sue for equitable indemnity or contribution based on the fact that there was no evidence that Moffatt owed a duty of care or that Moffatt was negligent. The court also determined that there was no contractual relationship between State and Major and that a person or other property was not damaged. Based on the two core findings, all cross complaints made by State are disregarded and State is found to be solely responsible for the damages. Moffatt is also awarded costs on the appeal. Part from his exchange with painters, sculptors and conceptual artists, part from his direct engagement with ordinary techniques of construction in which he found extraordinary possibilities of expression. Spiller House in Vernice, California (1979) in which angled planes and tilting volumes introduced visual tension and ambiguities while materials, as found, were handled in a deliberately casual way which exposed the process of assembly. Another route towards fragmentation and abstraction lay through the works of "neo–modernist" such as Richard Meier and Bernard Tschumi. Richard Meier established a signature style that was characterized by layers of wall planes and transparencies, fractured structural grids, interpenetrating ramps and space of vying luminosity. All these devices were all on display in the Museum für Kunsthandwerk in Frankfurt (1981–5). The Parc de La Villete (1984–9) by Bernard Tschumi revealed another aspect of the neo– modernist stance. His basic strategy of co–ordinates, sinuous lines and boundaries suggested a latter–day version of Kadinsky's elements of abstract painting or perhaps the score for an avant– garde film in which the same shot–pieces were repeated in different montages. The site recalled past mechanistic fantasies such as Tchernikov's sketches of around 1929. The cubic "follies" were like giant toys scattered across the grass. • 32. Graduation Speech : College Education It has become apparent now more than ever that having a college education is an unavoidable requisite in order to better ourselves. Every year thousands of students graduate high school and start to enroll in college. Another key factor in the decision towards obtaining a college degree is the example the young student saw at home; however, not all of the young students entering college come from a family with college graduate parents, which can play as a huge motivation in their path toward their college degree. Many people see this as the start of a new journey into the path of success since most Americans grow up with the idea that a college education will help us better our lives as well as to bring us success. According to Scott–Clayton from Columbia University, "Individuals with bachelor's degrees earn about 60 percent more than those with just a high school diploma." Today, we must not only acquire a high school education, but also graduate with a Bachelor's degree. A college degree itself won't guarantee you success, but it would give you the necessary tools and knowledge to achieve economic and personal success. In the future, the knowledge you achieved from your college education will become beneficial in plenty of ways. While a college degree may have its perks, there are definitely some drawbacks to it. One of those drawbacks is the most definite one, its cost. According to College Board, "California's public universities enacted the highest average tuition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Minimum Wage For The State Of California At one point or another Americans have all had first jobs and those entry–level positions most always consist of entry–level pay. Meaning an employee cannot be legally paid a cent less than what is defined as minimum wage. Though every state has its own specific rate at which to pay its employees, some margins between states differ more than others. In the state of California the minimum wage is $10 per hour, for now that is. Government officials that take into account many factors regarding the health of the economy now and in the future determine this rate. For many people of the state that living wage is still not enough. So today the public has voted that the minimum wage should be increased to $15 an hour. Seeing the benefits early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether your arguments are for or against the rise in minimum wage there's no way to perfect one rate that suits well with all of California. Example, the wage needed for a high cost area like San Francisco is going to be rather different than the wage a person would need in El Centro, which is highest in the state for unemployment (Perry 2). Say one uses a slightly different approach, that $15 an hour is good for a place like San Francisco because local wages can support itself if the economy were to go bad. That will not go off well if the same wage rate is in poverty stricken El Centro because of the lack of financial support. The rise in wage will negatively affect those in less fortunate communities. California being known for its forward thinking ideas, shall now become the state with the most damaging public policies put into place. A support of this argument lays out the main issue clearly, "When government artificially raises wages, it increases unemployment. Anyone should be able to understand that when labor costs are increase by government force, businesses often have no choice but to cut jobs if they are to remain profitable"("Authors of California" 2). Exclaiming the main issue that businesses will do what they must to stay afloat. The ironically cruel thing is that the ones that will be losing jobs were most likely the people completely for the wage increases. George Mason ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Pursuing An MPH Degree: Personal Statement After I graduated from college, I was confused about what I wanted to do with my life. I decided that I wanted to try something different so I went on a mission trip with my church to La Paz, Bolivia. I decided to go on this trip because Bolivia is the poorest country in South America and I realized it could be a great experience, especially after graduating with a Public Health degree. While there, I saw a lot of poverty and sanitary needs that were not being met. The environmental standards there are extremely detrimental to one's health, so much so that tourists are advised to avoid real "Bolivian foods" as well as many of the restaurants because their sanitary standards are much lower than the sanitary standards in the US. When thinking about how great an achievement receiving this scholarship was, I asked myself what changed from then to now. It was my determination. Growing up, I lived in a very hostile home. I always knew that the only way I would get out of my living situation was if I got into a good school and won enough scholarships to help pay my way through school. I knew that was a huge task, but I was determined because I had something to anticipate.Through that, my only motivation for going to college was to get out of my living situation. I saw that college could be my refuge and it was. But everything stopped there. I realized soon after that I did not know what I wanted to do with my life so I just went through the motions of going to school knowing that I could not go back to my parent's house. It wasn't until my junior year when I declared my major to be Public Health that I realized that I enjoyed my studies. Although I enjoyed what I was learning, I did not see this as a life–changing career. I am a woman who is motivated and driven by my passion and desire so without having that while in school, my grades suffered and to be honest, at the time I did not care.
