The surgery is done under general anesthesia. There are two ways of doing this when operating on a child or a baby:
• A small surgical cut is made in the fold of the groin which drains out the fluid. Also the sac holding the fluid is removed. The muscle walls are then strengthen with stitches.
• This surgery can also be performed laparoscopically. Here small incisions are made through which a laparoscope with a camera attached to its end is inserted to look into the area and also surgical instruments are inserted to drain out the fluid by removing the hydrocele.
In adults the cut is made in the scrotum
