2. For many, ordering printed NCR books or NCR pads can be
a bit daunting. There are quiet a few points to consider
before putting in a printing job with your printer.
We want to help you to make it a more pleasurable/easy
process and have put together a NCR printing checklist for
you.
These points are based on experiences we have made
over the past few years when dealing with these types of
printing requests and questions asked by customers.
So, here is our NCR books & pads pre-printing checklist:
2
3. 1. Artwork files & formats
• Preferably PDF, eps or tiff files.
• Hardcopies won't work, as well as certain file types such as
JPGs (low resolution = low printing quality) and will involve
extra work & extra cost to customer (setting it up correctly
& make print ready).
• Make sure your artwork file is in PMS (pantone) colours and
not CMYK. These are two different printing processes.
• Ask your supplier/printer for a basic template to use for you
or your designer.
• Always request proof of artwork before printing.
3
4. 2. Order Quantity
• How many books, pads or sets are required?
• Standard is 50 sets per pad (so for example 500 set
= 10 pads).
• Larger quantities will reduce unit costs.
3. Form Size
• A4 or A5? Smaller? Bigger?
• Most common used sizes are A4 and A5.
4
5. 4. How many parts in your set
• Top sheet plus 1 copy = 2 part set.
• Top sheet plus 2 copies = 3 part set.
• And so on.
5. Front only or two side printing (front & reverse)
• Do you need the back of the form to show your T&C for
example or any additional information?
• Artwork needs to be set up accordingly.
5
6. 6. Black or more PMS (Pantone) colour?
• Using standard black will minimise costs overall.
• Addition colours add amount of press time to process
the job as well as extra charges to your printing total.
7. Multiple paper colours – which colours?
• Standard is: top = white, 2nd copy = yellow, 3rd copy =
pink.
8. Do you require numbering?
• If you need numbering, advise starting number.
• Standard printing colour of numbering is red.
6
7. 9. Is a drill hole needed?
• Some NCR forms need a drill hole as standard (for example
to hang on job boards etc.). Either on the top centre or left
hand top edge.
• This will have a standard price per hundred/thousand –
check with your printer about this.
10. Book or pad? Glued/Bound?
• Book: Hardcover in different colours.
• Pad: No hardcover.
• Bound: Means stapled. Mainly for Books.
• Glued: Mainly for pads.
7
8. 11. Writing protector/Flap is standard with both types of
NCR printing
• This acts as a barrier for when writing/filling out your
forms.
• Inserted between top set and subsequent sets to avoid
writing to travel through and ruin later forms.
