  4. 4. THE PRESIDENTS: JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY Kennedy was the youngest president in history, before Obama. He was a staunch supporter of the space race and he helped NASA become a very successful agency.
  5. 5. JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY: FOREIGN POLICY • He created the peace corps, an organization guided towards helping people in third-world countries, with charity or volunteer work. • He also created the Alliance for Progress, which was an organization that would help to close wealth gaps in Latin countries. The organization also would help limit communist influence in the Western Hemisphere.
  6. 6. JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY: FOREIGN POLICY • Kennedy also had to deal with the Cuban Missile Crisis. In October 1962, the United States spy planes discovered the development of nuclear weapons in Communist Cuba. This discovery led to the largest and scariest confrontation between the United States and The Soviet Union. • In 1963, Kennedy signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, which was the first limitation on nuclear weapons.

THE PRESIDENTS: LYNDON B JOHNSTON • Lyndon B Johnston became president after the death of John F Kennedy. • He immediately became one of the best presidents, domestically, the United States ever had. • Although Johnston passed many new bills and laws, he still had low approval ratings, throughout his presidency.

JOHNSON'S "GREAT SOCIETY" • During his presidency, Johnson's domestic goal was known as the "Great Society". • Medicare: guaranteed all seniors the right to health insurance. • War on Poverty: Johnson's plan to end poverty in the United States. • Department of urban and housing development was developed to create homes for American citizens. • Elementary and Secondary Education Act: One of the first pieces of legislation, which granted federal money to the public school system.

  12. 12. CIVIL RIGHTS ACT PASSES On June 19th, 1964 Johnson succeeded in passing the greatest civil rights bill, since reconstruction.
  13. 13. MIRANDA WARNING ESTABLISHED • On June 13th, 1966, The United States Supreme Court mandated the Miranda Warning. This new right insured the right for Americans to know their rights before they would be tried in any criminal case.
  14. 14. Martin Luther King Jr. Killed in Memphis April 5th, 1968
  15. 15. RFK dies to Sirhan Sirhan June 4th, 1968
  16. 16. Neil Armstrong becomes the first man on the moon.
