  1. 1. Chapter 13 Section 4 Energy Resources
  2. 2. <ul><li>An energy resource is a natural resource that can converted into other forms of energy to do useful work. </li></ul>
  3. 4. Uses of fossil fuels. Burning coal is a common way to generate electricity. Gasoline, wax, and plastics are made from petroleum (another fossil fuel).
  4. 5. Converting Fossil Fuels. <ul><li>Electric generators convert the chemical energy in fossil fuels into electrical energy. </li></ul>
  5. 6. Renewable Resources <ul><li>Renewable resources can be replaced. </li></ul><ul><li>Solar, Water, Wind and Geothermal energy are examples. </li></ul><ul><li>Organic matter, such as plants, wood, and waste that can be burned to release energy is biomass. </li></ul>
  6. 8. Nonrenewable Resources <ul><li>A nonrenewable resource cannot be replaced once it is used. </li></ul><ul><li>Fossil fuels are energy resources that formed from buried remains of plants and animals. </li></ul>
