Top Ranking Factors In Order • Title • Body Text • Internal Anchor Text • Meta Description • Meta KeywordsPS: Google does not consider Meta Tags but this is not true for other search engines. In this ranking, I am partially inclined towards Google as it is the biggest of them all.
Title• Each page should have a unique Title• Title should be enclosed in H1 Tag• Title should be less than 70 characters long• Title should include the Targeted phrase towards the beginning
Content• “Content” is the king• Avoid duplicate content• Content should contain the important keywords & their alternates / synonyms• “Overstuffing” should be avoided
Internal Anchor Text• Anchor Text Optimised Internal links are important though they have little Impact on the Homepage• Adding internal links from important pages helps in better ranking• Avoid Excessive Internal Anchor Text Linking• Try to use different anchor text variations
Meta Tags• Each Page should have a unique meta description• Used by search engines to show preview snippets for a web page.• Description Tag should have a length of 150-160 characters• Google disclosed in Sep, 2009 that meta description & meta keywords do not count towards Googles ranking algorithm.
Other Key Factors• URL structure & length• Only one canonical version• Images (Alt Text)• Usage of H1 / H2 Tags & imp. key phrases• External links(Diversity, PR & Type)
Increasing Crawl Rate• The best way to increase Crawl Rate for Googlebot & other search engine bots is to publish new content on a regular basis• The other way to increase Crawl Rate is to increase crawl frequency using Webmaster Tools but Google might find that there is no real need for it as the webpage does not add new content frequently.
Updating site URLs• Always use 301 redirect when you are updaing your site structure• It suggests search engines to: a) Follow the new URL b) De-index the old URL c) Pass link juice• Users to the website will not even notice this change until they check the URL• 301 redirect also help in moving your website to a new location
