5. TEN TIPS
1) Know the room: Know the capacity of the room,
the audio visuals provided, seating arrangement,
rule out the chances of distortion etc.
2) Know the audience: Their type, nature of interests,
time, previous exposures, reason for gathering etc.
3) Know the material: Be thorough with subject
matter, plan according to the type of audience, be
flexible in the subject matter, use all the 4 P’s-
Plan, Prepare, Practice and Present.
4) Relax yourself: Do activities that can make you
relax before speaking in the green room like take a
cup of water, take deep breath, jump, laugh etc

5) Visualize yourself while giving the speech: Apply
KISS formulae i.e. Keep it short and simple. It
should be impressive, to the point, should have
links between sentences, in a logical order from
simple to complex, with back references, some
times humor also works. The audience should feel
it as a story.
6) Realize that people want you to succeed: Always
be flexible while speech considering the spot
feedback from the audience. Always be confident
and think that you are the master of what you are
going to deliver (Take precautions also)

7) Concentrate on the message, not the media: Try
to convey the message to the audience for a
audience response.
8) Don’t apologize: Don’t say sorry in between for
small mistakes like tongue twisters etc.
9) Turn nervousness into positive energy: Be
confident- Your confidence level can convert
your nervousness to positive energy. But, don’t
be overconfident also.
10) Gain experience- Practice makes perfect,
Experience gives confidence. Incorporate all the
feedback that you got in your previous speeches
and improve accordingly.
