3. Foreign exchange student programs are valued worldwide because they are
all about providing students with international education and incredible life
experiences. Students get to learn a new language, explore a different
culture and become confident and independent individuals while meeting
their academic goals. An initiative of the Rotary NAYEN (North American
Youth EXCHANGE Network), Rotary Youth Exchange study abroad program
is one such foreign exchange program. Designed for students who are 15 to
19 years old, it enables exchange students to unlock their true potential.
These exchanges sponsored by Rotary clubs in more than 100 countries
enable students to become global citizens.
When asked to provide insight into Rotary Youth Exchange, its spokesperson
commented, “High school students dream about studying abroad as a
foreign exchange student”. With our Rotary Youth Exchange program, we
help students who are leaders in their schools and communities to realize
this dream. Students can choose exchange programs lasting several days to
several weeks suiting their requirement and preferences. For example, they
can choose the short-term exchange in the summer, a gap year, or a full
academic year of high school in a foreign land.”

4. Rotary Youth Exchange programs have a plethora of advantages to offer,
including the development of lifelong leadership skills, building lasting
friendships with people around the world, learning a new language and culture,
and the resultant confidence. The two types of Rotary Youth Exchange programs
are the short-term exchanges and long-term exchanges. The short-term
exchanges lasting several days to three months are in the form of tours, camps,
and homestays in a foreign destination. As they take place when the student’s
school is not in session, students participating generally don’t attend school in a
host country during these exchanges. However, they have the freedom to tailor
the exchange program so that it matches their interests.
Shedding light on the long-term youth exchange program, the spokesperson
added, “The Rotary Youth Exchange long-term travel program experience,
including the application, selection, and the preparation process, begins a year
before students finally leave to study abroad. When they arrive in a foreign
country for their academic year, they can live with as many as three or four
carefully selected and trained host families. While studying at a local high school
there, students become bicultural and bilingual. We keep updating journals from
other Rotary Youth Exchange study-abroad scholars on our website that are
already living the dream of a foreign student.”

5. The youth exchange programs for students that Rotary offers vary
from one another. However, they all provide room and board, as well as
the school fee. Students, on the other hand, are usually responsible for
their round-trip airfare, travel insurance, travel documents (such as
passports and visas), spending money, and any additional travel or tours.
