  4. 4. Ideas Processes Reminder • Pass or Fail is Council’s job – and mostly with regards to Neutral Ideas. • Automatic Passes should be passed unless Council has a valid reason to fail (unfeasible or similar.) • Automatic Fails should be failed unless the meeting has an individual present who is willing to take on Project Management as a Change Agent. • Neutral Ideas have already been discussed – Councillors are encouraged to join the debate online. • Discussion in Council should be on quick points of the Project only – more detailed project input can be done with Sean as the project support staff for Idea outcomes. • All of this was agreed in principle by this Council at Handover or the meeting after. • Major changes to the way Ideas works in year (i.e. more time to discuss them) will mean having to hold 2 or 3 hours more of Council per week in order to process the volume of Ideas coming through this year. • The process was shaped this way to handle volume – we predicted more Ideas this year; we have to be able to deal with them in good order. • Many of you made manifesto pledges for better and improved process – that includes efficiency
  5. 5. Ideas Useful Suggestion • From the Paxman Academy Feedback Form: • To take suggestions and input on Student Ideas into Scrutiny during the “Ideas” part of the session. • For the remainder of this term, please attempt to give constructive suggestions for implementation of Ideas to Sabb Officers during scrutiny. • Don’t forget you can also tweet.
  6. 6. 1. Sanitary Bins 99 16 0321 To supply sanitary bins in all the toilets of shared bathroom accommodation where necessary Strongly Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly Disagree Confused No Vote: Change Agents Project – for information only  Votes: 118  Positive: 97.5%  Mean Rating: 4.75 Pass / Fail Ratings Notes: Overwhelmingly positive response on all factors. Has cost implications, but is wanted/required and should therefore be pushed for by the Guild.
  7. 7. 2. Men’s Rights Activist Tears 88 13 7 3 31 15 Men's Rights Activist tears to be bottled and sold at the Guild Shop. Strongly Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly Disagree Confused No Vote: Idea fails as being Ultra Vires – this is, legally speaking, well outside the aims and powers granted to Charities under UK law.  Votes: 157  Positive: 64.4%  Mean Rating: 3.50 Pass / Fail Ratings Notes: All ‘tear producing’ methods available would appear to violate the UN Convention Against Torture. There is no such existing commercial product.
  8. 8. 3. Condoms in the Forum 52 34 7 10 6 2 Multiple free condom boxes in the forum. It is too intimidating going to the student health centre or to the health centre in town. Strongly Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly Disagree Confused Votes: RED: Fail Idea – Neutral (one out of three failed.) GREEN: Give project to VP Welfare to implement immediately.  Votes: 111  Positive: 77.4%  Mean Rating: 3.99 Pass / Fail Ratings Notes: Can usually source free condoms from many places. Distribution points to be negotiated, and stocked.
  9. 9. 4. It is also effectively granting a benefit which is subject to democratic removal (affiliation vote)
  10. 10. 5. Forum Library Desks 33 13 2 4 20 The Guild should lobby Forum Library Staff to do more about people selfishly reserving study desks. Strongly Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly Disagree Confused Votes: RED: Fail Idea – Neutral (1 out of 3 passed) AMBER: Pass to VP Education for implementation. GREEN: Pass to Campaigns Working group to raise awareness of space use/campaign for additional space.  Votes: 54  Positive: 85.2%  Mean Rating: 4.31 Pass / Fail Ratings Notes: Whilst the Facebook ban was over-reaching (Idea last year) this is within the general purpose of the existing ‘Take a Break’ scheme.
  11. 11. 6. Washington Singer Cafe 10 14 4 2 5 2 Washington Singer needs a social/café for psychology students to spend time together, eat, drink and work. Some of that centralisation has been reversed (i.e. Queen’s) but it is not general policy to expand locations for services.
  12. 12. 7. Secure Society Storage 34 17 4 001 Secure storage space for valuable society equipment has effectively run out. Strongly Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly Disagree Confused Votes: RED: Fail Idea – Neutral (1 of 3 passed) AMBER: Pass to VP Activities to implement a storage space consultation and delivery plan.  Votes: 56  Positive: 91.1%  Mean Rating: 4.46 Pass / Fail Ratings Notes: Storage is always a problem – space costs money on campus, and without taking that rental from Society funds the Guild would have to find an income stream for storage space.

Pass to Environment & Ethics Working Group in order to check and deliver on the ‘map’ of facilities.

We can change the Bylaw to reflect publishing by default, but are always subject to individual ‘take down’ requests.
