  3. 3. ESTAURYAn estuary is the tidal mouth of a riverwhere freshwater and seawater meet.
  4. 4. COASTLINEDIFFERCENSThere are many more bays and inlets onthe west coast of Ireland then on the eastcoast, because the strong Atlantic Oceanhas eaten away the land.
  5. 5. HARBOURSMany bays and harbours have a port whichcaters for fishing trawlers, car ferries orlarge ships.
  6. 6. ISLANDSThe Aran Islands consist of 3 islandInishmore, Inishmaan, Inisheer.

  11. 11. BEACH PROTECTIONBeaches in parts of Ireland have speciallybuilt beach protectors which help to holdthe sand on the beach.
  12. 12. RNLI LIFEBOATWhen there is an emergency at sea, theRoyal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) iscalled out to help and a lifeboat is put outto sea.
  13. 13. RNLI HELICOPTERHelicopters are also used for sea and cliffrescue operations.
  14. 14. RNLI VOLUNTEERSThere are lifeboat stations all around ourcoast. Many people who work on lifeboatsare volunteers and get no pay for theirdangerous work.
