If you’re planning to study piano by yourself, you would most likely not be able to do it properly in many ways. Most piano techniques are counter-intuitive so you might develop a lot of bad habits that will be very difficult to unlearn. One good example is proper piano fingering.
Although there are no absolutes about it, there are general principles that pianists have discovered down through years of practice. Oftentimes what comes naturally to you will in fact be the wrong way of doing it. Imagine how frustrating it would be if you told your teacher, “teach me piano” but then you always end up doing the opposite of how she taught you to do it. Things that would otherwise be minor things would then turn to issues as you and teacher end up frustrated each day.
Another waterloo for learning piano through self-study is that you will more often then not, short-change yourself when studying with books. People tend to rush through a book, opting to skip pages which they feel are not important and reading only the chapters they feel are pertinent to their needs. If you are a beginner how could you possibly know which pages are important and which are not.
Seldom do people read a book from cover to cover. Having a teacher would spell a big difference as you will be forced to go through the whole book to develop discipline and acquire a thorough knowledge of the basics. Most books are carefully arranged and filled with exercises that have been calculated to enhance technique. It is foolish to think you are beyond rudimentary exercises. The repetitive nature of the basic rudiments of music is meant to solidify one’s skills and techniques.
I find that if I study on my own I do have the freedom to arrange my study at a time that is convenient for me. Instead of helping me, it is actually is detrimental to my progress. I can easily excuse myself and fail to exercise discipline. It would also mean that I can pace myself as slowly as I want to. But if I ask somebody else to teach me piano, I will most certainly have someone to be answerable to. Someone else can pace me and I can achieve more in a shorter span of time.
Having a teacher train me even if for short periods of time only has been extremely helpful. A teacher ensures that someone knowledgeable will be there to observe and point out aspects that need to be improved. He can point out my weaknesses and more importantly assign me exercises that will help address the problem.
For More Information Visit – Piano Lessons Online
