2. Introduction
 In addition to serving as a hospital CEO, Stephen
Erixon has supported numerous nonprofit health and
wellness organizations. Among his charitable
interests, Stephen Erixon supports the American
Cancer Society (ACS).
ACS funds a variety of health and wellness research
initiatives regarding cancer, including research on
cancer survivorship and disparities in incidence and
treatment access among different groups of people.
Through this research, ACS has found that, due to
reduced health access and health policies that
discourage certain disclosures, some groups face
disproportionate health consequences when dealing
with cancer.

 By highlighting the issues faced by various
populations—such as individuals who identify as
LGBT, African Americans, and the Hispanic
community—ACS seeks to diminish the gaps in
cancer treatment.
On the ACS website, leading cancer experts
provide information on their research and
observations regarding their findings. Major
findings and discussion topics include the higher
incidence of death from most common cancers
among African Americans, the unique difficulties
involved in pursuing cancer treatment as a
member of the LGBT community, and the impact
of health equity initiatives on cancer care.
