  10. 10. + NAACP is NONPARTISAN  What does „nonpartisan‟ mean? It means the NAACP cannot intervene in any political campaign on behalf or in opposition to any candidate for public office. Nonpartisan campaigns should be designed to educate the public about issues or to encourage the public to exercise their right to vote – not to tell the public how to vote.
  11. 11. + Election Do‟s & Don‟ts  Don‟t give implicit or explicit endorsements  Don‟t make contributions to candidates  Don‟t set up, fund or manage a PAC  Don‟t coordinate activities with a campaign  Don‟t distribute/display partisan materials  Don‟t publicize which candidates agree with positions your organization supports

  16. 16. + 5 Keys to Success 1. Approach each person and get their attention 2. Give them a reason to register 3. Ask their name 4. Check the form for common mistakes 5. Ask everyone to volunteer – even if they are already registerd
  17. 17. + 5 Steps to Registering a New Voter 1. Approach each person individually 2. Get one person started filling out the form first 3. Put lines to work for you 4. Set goals and keep accurate records 5. Persistence gets results
