5. The best examples Some of the best examples of ancient monuments is Stonehenge which is based in Wiltshire in England also a good example is Merrillville stone rows which is based in Devon Merrillville stone rows Stonehenge Back to contents page
6. who built them? and why? Stonehenge was built in several stages from 2800 - 1800 BC. One of the most popular beliefs was that Stonehenge was built by the Druids. These high priests of the Celts, constructed it for sacrificial ceremonies. The Merrillville stone rows belong to a period well into the second millennium BC, when earlier traditions had become associated with local ceremonies. Back to contents
