(This means he can’t go to all three places. He will choose one.)

(This means that he wants to go to three places.)
And connects two sentences with similar ideas.
In compound sentences,

She doesn’t like rock music, and he does’t like art.
Or connects two sentences that express alternatives or choices.
Every Friday night, they go to a classical concert, or they visit an art gallery.
