Main Points to Grow Lucky Bamboo
1. Defoliate the leaves on the base and cut the bevel
a. Before put the lucky bamboo into the bottom, we suggest to defoliate the
leaves on the base of the bamboo stem.
b. Take a sharp knife to cut the base of bamboo into a bevel, the knife-edge
should be flat and smooth, to increase the absorption area of the bevel for the
moist and the nutrient.
c. Change the water every 3-4 days. A few pieces of small charcoal could be
added into the water to prevent the stem from being rotten. Remember not to
change the position and direction of the stem within 10 days, it takes 15 days
to grow the fibrous root.
2. Changing the water
After the root is ready, we suggest only adding some water into the bottle instead
of changing the water.
Changing the water frequently will make the leaves and stem yellow and withered.
The best water for it is the water directly from the well.
When using tap water, it is better to keep the water in some ware for 24 hours.
During it, the water should be kept clean and fresh. Don’t use the dirty water, hard
water and the water with oil, or the root would be easy to get rotten.
Lucky bamboo prefer to a humid environment. When the atmosphere is too dry,
the leaf tip will get scorched. If so, you should drop the water into the leaves and
the branches.
3. Fertilize regularly
To avoid the bamboo growing-excessively, it is not recommended to use Chemical
Fertilizer. It had better to drip a few drop of Brandy (White wine) every 1-2 month,
adding a few nutrient solution. You can also cruse down a piece of the Aspirin pill
or Vitamin C, to mix the pill powder with 500ml of water. When adding the water

for lucky bamboo, drip some drop into the water, it can make the leaves fresh and
green.
4. Temperature & Environment
Lucky bamboo is originate from Madagascar in the Western Indian Ocean, prefer
to a warm environment. The best temperature for its growth is 18℃ to 25℃.
It likes the environment with an adequate Diffused lighting. In Summer and early
Autumn, please be careful to resist the exposure of the burning sun.
From the end of Autumn and the next Spring, it is better to put them into a place
which near the window, can reach and absorb the direct sunshine. If the light is too
dark, the leaves will become not so green and fresh.
It can’t resist to the cold. When the minimum temperature reach 5℃, it should be
moved into indoor, try to keep the indoor temperature at above 5℃ (when it is
below 10℃, the bamboo is easy to be frostbite, even to frozen to death)
Place the lucky bamboo into a indoor ventilated place, open to light, to help its
Photosynthesis. Don’t put the bamboo plants into a place which close to TV , air
conditioner and electric fan, to avoid the leaf tip and the leaf edge getting
withered.
5. Management
When finding a dead stick, please pick out in time and change the water. In case
that other sticks would be infected.
After growing a period of time (2-3 months), the bottom of lucky bamboo will
grow some root. When the root is too much, it need to be prune. Though it will not
affect the growing of lucky bamboo, we suggest cutting the old root regularly for
better growing and appearance.
