  2. 2. • The Industry 4.0 is a conglomeration of many technologies and the Industries can choose one technology or several technologies depending on their problem statements. • With rapid development in Internet of things (IoT), Artificial intelligence (AI), Big Data, Virtual reality, Quantum computing and science of Robotics, most of the plant operation can be automatically controlled without any compromise on quality. Concepts like predictive maintenance, inventory management can bring down cost as well as shut down. • This will also take project management to a new level and completely change the methodology of project execution with minimum design changes, rework the mistakes, leading to project execution within strict time schedule, with hardly any room for cost or time overrun.

Worldwide Practice • Most Noteworthy PosFrame • As a pilot smart factory in Gwangyang steelworks in 2015 • The largest establishment of korea at 18MTPA • Studied the data accumulated in last 51years • Each and every operation has been digitalised . • From 2017 ,each and every employee of POSCO in Gwangyang has been trained in automation.

Arcellor Mittal Group • Thousands of sensors talk to each other located at different plants thereby building a huge database which drives the plant. • Extensive use of drones by applying infrared for thermal mapping and energy consumption . • Virtual Reality training /Simulator training . • AI for process dimension measurement and course correction . • Inspection by using handheld devices .

In India • Industry 4.0 is at rudimentary stage . • Tata steel uses robotic system for wagon tippler operation at its kalinganagar plant. • JSPL at its Angul plant has used IoT framework to switchover to predictive maintenance regime . • RINL and STPI have established a centre of excellence in the premises of vizag steel plant to work on Industry 4.0
