This was a brief presentation I gave to the faculty of the Foreign Languages Department at the University of Sonora. A friend invited me to propose the project and see if there was enough interest to get it started. This meeting kicked off our successful three year project to implement eLearning in the department.

Relevant Work Experience <ul><li>Currently work for Information Technology Services at Northern Arizona University, managing technology training for faculty & staff (1998-Present) http://www4.nau.edu/its/etc/CCTS_Org_Chart.pdf </li></ul><ul><li>Eight additional years of experience in 7-12 education. </li></ul><ul><li>Worked three years at Thomas Alva Edison Bicultural Secondary (TAES) 1992-1995. </li></ul><ul><li>Taught ESL for TAES and Arizona Western College. </li></ul><ul><li>Positions in 7-12 education: teacher, technology coordinator, director, high school principal </li></ul>

Why am I here? <ul><li>I need to complete doctoral service project that is related to e-learning. </li></ul><ul><li>I would like to find dissertation topic related to technology in Latin America. </li></ul><ul><li>I miss Hermosillo and would like to find a reason to spend more time here. </li></ul><ul><li>I met J.L. at SITE Conference in Phoenix. </li></ul>

ESL & Technology <ul><li>Teachers will not integrate technology to teach the same English skills better, but they will likely make sacrifices to integrate technology if they believe that the mastery of technology as part of the English curriculum will contribute to the advancement of their students and their society. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Warschauer, M. Proposed Calendar <ul><li>April 28-29: Visit UniSon to Present Ideas </li></ul><ul><li>May: Begin online activities with UniSon faculty </li></ul><ul><li>5/30-6/3: Week-long workshop in Hermosillo </li></ul><ul><li>June and July: Activities continue online. We practice with technology in an online community while you learn how to create online instruction. I provide support through distance technologies. </li></ul><ul><li>Mid-August: Return to Hermosillo for another week to help wrap up the projects. </li></ul><ul><li>September and beyond: ??? </li></ul>
