WHAT IS PLAYWAY? <ul><li>The term “PLAYWAY” was first used by Caldwell Cook to describe his method of teaching English. </li></ul><ul><li>According to him, good work is more often the result of spontaneous effort and free interest than of compulsion and forced application. </li></ul><ul><li>Play way activity provides enough scope for child participation. </li></ul><ul><li>It helps in developing the desire of values, habits and attitudes in children. </li></ul>

  4. 4. GAMES <ul><li>Simple and lively games like guessing games, passing the parcel, musical chairs etc. </li></ul>
  5. 5. DRAMATIC PLAY <ul><li>Children are given the freedom to exercise their imagination and act, as they like. </li></ul><ul><li>For ex: like talking on a toy cell phone, making sounds like an animal or bird, acting like mother, friends or teachers. </li></ul>
  6. 6. AMUSEMENT GAMES <ul><li>Sometimes children enjoy watching others performing the activities they cannot perform like watching a magician or others play. </li></ul>
  7. 7. LOOKING AT PICTURES <ul><li>By looking at pictures children learn to concentrate and try to seek more information of them by asking questions. </li></ul>

LISTENING TO STORIES <ul><li>Mothers and grandparents tell stories to children at home. </li></ul><ul><li>But the teacher should develop the art of story telling and tell stories of home life, school life, animals and birds, good morals, historic and mythological persons in class. </li></ul>
  9. 9. RHYMES & POEMS <ul><li>The teacher can extensively use rhymes and poems to teach new concepts. </li></ul><ul><li>They should however be short, simple and melodious. </li></ul>
  10. 10. WATCHING TELEVISION <ul><li>Some programmes on television are entertaining, educational and informative. </li></ul><ul><li>The teacher should guide the children to understand what programmes are to be seen. </li></ul>
  11. 11. SAND PLAY <ul><li>It provides a lot of entertainment as well as brings out the skill and imagination of the child. </li></ul>
  12. 12. WATER PLAY <ul><li>It provides great amusement as well as training to children. </li></ul><ul><li>But it should be conducted under the supervision of a teacher. </li></ul>

PRINCIPLES OF PLAYWAY <ul><li>Learning by doing, </li></ul><ul><li>In an atmosphere of complete freedom </li></ul><ul><li>Nearer to life situations, </li></ul><ul><li>Suited to the needs and interest of students, </li></ul><ul><li>Free from authoritarianism, </li></ul><ul><li>Responsibility on children in the learning process, </li></ul><ul><li>Ample opportunity for self expression. </li></ul>

ADVANTAGES OF PLAYWAY <ul><li>Physical development: Due to exercise </li></ul><ul><li>Intellectual development: The freedom of expression gives scope for more imagination and inquisitiveness. </li></ul><ul><li>Social development: The child learns social values like unity, brotherhood, co-operation, oneness etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Educative values: general increase in the I.Q level as they learn things by doing. </li></ul><ul><li>Emotional development: helps in establishing the emotions of children & helps to overcome shyness, moodiness, timidity and sensitiveness. </li></ul>

ADVANTAGES OF ADOPTING PLAY IN SCHOOLS <ul><li>Play way aims at making activities interesting . </li></ul><ul><li>The tough part of learning is made easy by the introduction of elements of interest &motivation . </li></ul><ul><li>In all the progressive methods of education like the Project method, Kindergarten Method, Montessori method, Dalton Method etc. the element of play way is found. </li></ul><ul><li>It can be used in the practical teaching of different subjects like mother tongue, maths, history, study of nature, moral and social training. </li></ul>
