Cannabidol and Heart Health and Diabetes
The British Journal of Pharmacology published a study on cannabidiol to study its tissue-sparing effect during
chronic myocardial ischaemia and reperfusion (I/R). Although it is not known if CBD acts as a heart protective during
the acute phase of an I/R injury, it does reduce the total number of induced arrhythmias and infarct size when
introduced prior to ischaemia. A similar benefit occurs when given prior to reperfusion.
Cannabinoids also cause vasorelaxation, mediate cardiovascular risk factors, and can improve atherosclerosis risks.
CBD is also associated with lower levels of fasting insulin and HOMA-IR, which correlates to a smaller waist
circumference, which are all diabetes development risk factors.
Cannabidiol offers modulation of neuropathic pain and microglial accumulation inType 1 diabetic peripheral
neuropathic pain. It has also been found to be useful in lowering the incidence of diabetes in non-obese diabetic
mice.
