  3. 3. What is a hashtag? <ul><li>A hashtag # is symbol used to denote a feature of the tweet, e.g #smexex10 </li></ul><ul><li>Can be used to follow the event </li></ul><ul><li>Can be used to define a project #CharityTuesday </li></ul><ul><li>Or a feeling that’s recognisable #fail </li></ul>

Trending – using hash ‘#’ tags <ul><li>In Twitter-land, trending means ‘popularity’ – the most used phrases/words that are being used </li></ul><ul><li>You can take part in and invent your own hash tags to try and make things trend </li></ul><ul><li>You can also view the current trends on your sign in page </li></ul><ul><li>You can set the trending list by region to see what’s most popular in certain areas – London, UK, Worldwide! </li></ul><ul><li>N.B: Worldwide will normally consist of one or both of these, ‘Jonas’ or ‘Bieber’, and we thought the average age of Twitter users was 39…..! </li></ul>
