To display some symbols you need to press another key then the key you desire to display on the screen.
What is it used for: Keyboards are mainly used for typing in programs such as Windows Microsoft Word or PowerPoint. Keyboards are also used for computer gaming and there are some special made keyboards you can use for gaming.
8. 8. How have Keyboards
changed over the years
How have they changed over the years:
The history of the keyboard started with the invention of the type writer in 1868. The older keyboards from the 1990’s are a more boring colour scheme and are bulkier. These older keyboards used a 5 pin DIN connection. A lot of the newer keyboards use a USB connection. The older keyboards also use to have springs under each key which was very noisy. They also use to be a lot bigger. Most keyboards now have better mechanisms under the keys and are much lighter.
9. 9. How Does it Work?
How does a keyboard work: A keyboard looks the same as a computer on the inside because it has a processor and circuits. The keyboards we use today are called Dome-Switch keyboard. When the key is pressed a small rubber dome is pressed down it connects a pair of conducting lines together on the circuit. A chip inside the computer receives a signal and decodes that code into the key that was pressed.
10. 10. Different Types
Different Types of keyboards: There are some different types of keyboards and these are used for different applications such as gaming and multimedia. Standard keyboards contain letters, numbers, characters and punctuations symbols. Laptop keyboards have a shorter keystroke and normally don’t have number keys but these can be found by pressing Fn(function). Gaming and multimedia keyboards have more buttons to do things such as access things such as music or e-mail.
Gaming keyboard
Laptop keyboard
Standard keyboard
11. 11. Other Information
Do they use less or more energy: I believe that keyboards would require less energy except the gaming keyboards that have small screens.
Who invented the keyboard: The keyboard was first invented by Christopher Sholes in 1868. It was know as the type writer.
