INTRODUCTION    a mechanism that allows an electronic device to exchange data wirelessly over a computer network "Wi-Fi" is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance and the brand name for products using the IEEE 802.11 family of standards. A device enabled with Wi-Fi can connect to a network resource such as the Internet via a wireless network access point.
  3. 3. COMPONENTS OF WI-FI   It is a two-way radio communication. It consists of : computer's wireless adapter, access point, a wireless router and an antenna.
  4. 4. BUILDIING A WI-FI    A Wi-Fi hotspot is created by installing an access point to any internet connection. An access point acts as a base station. When Wi-Fi enabled device encounters a hotspot the device can then connect to that network wirelessly.
  5. 5. THE WI-FI TECHNOLOGY  Wi-Fi networks use radio technologies to transmit & receive data at high speed. IEEE set of standards are : IEEE 802.11a IEEE 802.11b IEEE 802.11g IEEE 802.11n

  8. 8. WI-FI SECURITY    WEP (Wired Equivalency Privacy) standard was intended to make wireless network as secure as wired networks. The common key lengths are currently 128 and 256-bit. WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) is an early version of the 802.11i security standard that was developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance to replace WEP.
