  2. 2. WHAT IS PAMMUKALE ? Pamukkale, which means 'Cotton Castle' in Turkish, is known as 8th world wonder by Turkish people. Pamukkale is a natural site and a famous tourist attraction in south-western Turkey in the Denizli Province. Pamukkale is located in Turkey's Inner Aegean region, in the River Menderes valley, which enjoys a temperate climate over the greater part of the year. The summers are hot and dry, and winters warm and rainy. Tourists travel from the coast of Antalya and the Aegean Sea to Pamukkale.

  4. 4. HOW WAS PAMMUKKALE FORMED? Pamukkale was formed when a spring with a high content of dissolved calcium bicarbonate cascaded over the edge of the cliff, which cooled and hardened leaving calcium deposits. This formed into great natural pools, shelves and ridges, which tourists could plunge and splash in the hot water.
  5. 5. THE ROMAN TEMPLE OF APOLLO Pamukkale has been a spa since the Romans built the spa city of Hierapolis around a sacred warm-water spring. The Sacred Pool is still there, littered with marble columns from the Roman Temple of Apollo. You can swim in it for a fee.

THREE LOCATIONS MOST IMPORTANT TO VISITORS Three locations are of importance to visitors at Pamukkale: Pamukkale Town At the foot of the travertines, the little town of Pamukkale has numerous small hotels, pensions, restaurants, and such services as shops and bus ticket offices. Many pensions have their own small warm mineral water pools. Karahayıt Several kilometers to the north of the plateau, the village of Karahayıt is surrounded by big resort hotels busy with bus tour groups. The Plateau The travertines form a plateau atop which is the Sacred Pool, the ruins of Hierapolis, and the Archeological Museum. These are what you want to see. There are three entrances to the plateau.

Adventurous travelers would stay in Pamukkale Town's small pensions and hotels, bask in the warm mineral water of the travertime pools, linger over long dinners, exchange tales of the road, and generally have a wonderful time in this laid-back atmosphere

The stunning white calcium pools, which cling to the side of a ridge, have been long one of the most famous picture postal card views of Turkey. Pammukkale is said to be a place that is advantageous to treat maladies. People are recommended to go to Pammukkale for the treatment of high blood pressure, heart diseases, rheumatism, circulatory problems, nervous disorders, digestive maladies, nervous and physical exhaustion, eye & skin diseases and nutritional disorders.
