  1. 1. What is the IPC-A-610 Certification Program? Bob Wettermann, MIT BEST Inc. bwet@solder.net
  2. 2. IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies What is it? Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies-the IPC A-610 document- is the most widely used standard published by the IPC. With multiple language versions, it has an international reputation as the source for end product acceptance criteria for consumer and high reliability printed wiring assemblies.
  3. 3. What is it? The IPC-A-610 document is designed to be a valuable reference tool for determining quality. Most users keep the document readily available and refer to it constantly. It is widely used as the premier inspection specification, and it is a trainers resource for teaching acceptable soldering techniques. There is no hand soldering in this certification program. 4. 4. What is it? The IPC-A-610 document is used by anyone who is responsible for ensuring quality and reliability in electronic assemblies. This includes Inspectors and Quality Personnel, Engineers, Production Personnel, Managers and Trainers. IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies
  5. 5. What is it NOT? This is not a hands-on certification program. There is NO hand soldering in this program. IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies
  6. 6. The CIS (Operator Level) Program A Specialist certification may also be referenced as an Operator certification. Specialists are certified to the criteria but cannot train or certify others. IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies
  7. 7. The CIS (Operator Level) Program Certifying students to IPCA-610 means that they are officially recognized by the IPC as having achieved a level of understanding of the contents of the specification. IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies
  8. 8. The CIS (Operator Level) Program Certifying operators to IPC-A-610 means that they are officially recognized by the IPC as having a working knowledge of the quality requirements set forth in the specification. Training is good for (2) yrs and the credential belongs to the employee. IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies
  9. 9. The CIT (Operator Level) Program Certifying Instructors to IPC-A-610 means that they are officially recognized by the IPC as being qualified to deliver IPC-A-610 CIS (Operator) Training. IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies
