  • I deem that teachers stereotype too occasionally on perceived characteristics, which shouldn't be done. This will gradually lower the child, whether they're put into streams/sets (LOWER) this will outcome negative attributes. Take a great example: If a child behaves in a silly manner (not too aggressive) they will be discerned as 'Dumb' and 'Incapable' instantly. Teachers need to have pride, not lower students. Being put into a lower stream/set can inflict and deteriorate the position. (Lower sets recap the same thing, they stick at pace, whereas Higher sets move on- receiving the greater advantage )

Anti-school subculture <ul><li>Kids who join an anti-school subculture go against the main culture (norms & values) of the school </li></ul><ul><li>These responses include not doing homework, disrupting lessons, messing around, breaking school rules </li></ul><ul><li>They tend to have been placed in the bottom sets or streams and invariably are working-class </li></ul><ul><li>They gain their status with their peers by doing the above as the school system has labelled them as ‘failures’ </li></ul>
