Residential Schools

  1. 1. Residential SchoolsMany folks do not realize Mississippi along with several other states offer a residential program for(typically) Juniors and Seniors, and such an option, e.g. a residential public school with a specializedfocus on math/science or arts is available at a reasonable cost.As it happens, Mississippi was the fourth state in the nation to create such an entity....and they havetwo, The Mississippi School for Math and Science (MSMS) and The Mississippi School for theArts (MSA).Why is this relevant??? This is another option for the children of military connected personnel whoare prone to move often and who may be seeking alternatives to local public and/or private schools, home schooling or perhaps some alternative living arrangements --- especially as students approachtheir graduation years. This option is NOT for everyone. It depends on your state, the family dynamics, and of course --- thestudent!Note: Folks genuinely interested in other locations/schools, additional information is available at theNational Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technologywebsite at: http://www.ncsssmst.org/institutionalmembers.aspxIn addition, provided below is a roster of many of the residential Math/Science/Arts programs locatedthroughout the nation and of course, the two in Mississippi are shown first! Please help by getting the word out, and also.....think of inbound families and friends/families at otherinstallations who may have a student looking for new opportunities and greater challenges!Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science: http://www.msms.k12.ms.us/Mississippi School for the Arts: http://www.msa.k12.ms.us/
