  2. 2. What are institutions? Institutions – These are companies that produce media products for profit. Examples of these are Bauer media group, IPC media and future media.
  3. 3. The 3 main media institutions  Bauer - Bauer Media Group is described by the company as a multinational media company headquartered in Hamburg, Germany which operates in 16 countries worldwide. Since the company was founded in 1875, it has been privately owned and under management by the Bauer family.  IPC media - IPC Media , is a wholly owned subsidiary of Time Inc., is a consumer magazine and digital publisher in the UK, selling over 350 million copies each year.  Future - Future is an award-winning international media group and leading digital business. Who reach more than 58 million international consumers a month. We hold leading positions in Technology, Photography, Creative & Design, Games, Film, Music, Women’s Creative, Sport and Auto.
  4. 4. As these were the 3 main popular institutions I decided to find out more about them as I decided this would help me with my research and with answering the question, I also did this to see if any of these media groups would be suitable with my Indie magazine.
  5. 5. Bauer Media group Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and radio stations. Bauer media are a large company, they have big brands which would mean that my magazine would get more attention than it would do being with a smaller niche publisher. Our wide portfolio of influential brands gives us advantages over pure play magazine or radio competitors. They hold leading positions in Technology, Photography, Creative & Design, Games, Film, Music, Women’s Creative, Sport and Auto.. Last year they sold more than 19 million magazines, that’s 37 magazines every minute. Their most well-known brands include  T3  Total Film  Cycling Plus  Mollie Makes  Xbox The Official Magazine. Future also exports or syndicates over 218 publications to 82 countries, making us the UK’s number one exporter and licensor of magazine content.
  8. 8. Indie magazine publishing groups plastic media is a fashion/music/lifestyle publishing housefounded in 2003 by Kira Stachowitsch and Clemens Steinmueller. They own internationally renowned magazines such as INDIE, INDIE English Edition and material girl which are distributed worldwide and available at the best newsagents and most important national and international chain stores. This is the sort of company that would publish my music magazine because they already publish indie magazines so it would be very suitable for my music magazine. Plastic media would be the media insitution that would suit my magazine because they already publish the mainstream indie magazine “INDIE”
