Contact Congress
Using POPVOX’s widgets

        A step-by-step guide
                and
answers to frequently asked questions
1. Getting Started.
If you’re a first time user,
enter your email address,
name and zip code.

(If you’ve contacted
Congress using POPVOX
before, then simply enter
your email address, and your
information should
automatically load up.)
Next, POPVOX will ask for
your home address—which
will only be shared with
your Members of Congress.

It’s required so that your
message gets delivered to
the appropriate
Congressional office.
2. Write a personal
                              message to Congress.
                              Congress pays special
                              attention to constituents
                              when they write personal
                              comments. This message will
                              be delivered to your
                              Members of Congress and
                              posted on POPVOX.com with
                              your screen name so that
                              others can learn from your
                              comments.

Don’t worry – it’s optional. You can still weigh in on a bill
without leaving a personal comment!
3. Preview your
message.
This step allows you to
review your message
before you hit “send”...
or edit your comment.
4. Share your message to
get others to weigh in.
After hitting “send,” you can
share your message to
Congress with your friends
and networks using Facebook
or Twitter, or email. This is a
great way to encourage
others to take action.

From here, you can also
weigh in on other bills that
your organization supports
or opposes.
5. Check your email inbox. This is a critical step.
You will receive a “Finish your Letter to Congress” email
from POPVOX.

Click on the link provided to verify that you are a real
person and not a “spam-bot.” (Don’t worry. This is a one-
time verification. You won’t have to do this again.)
6. You will be given
the option to create
your own screen
name... or you can
stick with the screen
name automatically
generated by
POPVOX.

TIP: It’s a good idea
to remember your
POPVOX password
so you can return to your User Dashboard
(www.popvox.com/home) to check the status of your
message.
7. You’re all done!

Thanks for taking the time to weigh in!
Why do I need to create an
           account with POPVOX?
POPVOX creates an account for you so
you can track when your message was
delivered to Congress at
www.popvox.com/home/history.
With an account, you can also weigh in on
other bills without having to go through
the verification process each time.
POPVOX automatically generates a screen
name and password for you. However, you
can change your screen name and
password at any time at
www.popvox.com/accounts/profile.
Why does POPVOX ask for so
         much information?
We know that POPVOX asks people for a lot of
information.
POPVOX asks for your home address in order to
deliver your message to the correct Members of
Congress.
POPVOX also verifies your address with the US Postal
Service so that Congress is assured that you are a
constituent – and a real person, not a “spammer.”
What is POPVOX’s privacy policy?

POPVOX takes your privacy
seriously. POPVOX won’t share
your personal information with
anyone other than your
Members of Congress and the
organization asking you to
take action.
You can view POPVOX’s privacy
report to see how information
about you is used at
www.popvox.com/legal
How does POPVOX help amplify
         our voice to Congress?
When you weigh in using POPVOX’s tools, POPVOX
aggregates your position on a bill with hundreds, even
thousands, of others so that Congress and others can
see support (or opposition) in real time.
How do I know my message is
           delivered to Congress?
1. Members of Congress and their staff view the reports
on POPVOX.com of support (or opposition) of bills, which
is updated in real time.
2. POPVOX also delivers your message to your Member
of Congress – and provides message delivery confirmation
– so you know exactly when your message was delivered
to Congress. (Visit your User Dashboard or go to
www.popvox.com/home/history)
Bottom line: If you don't hear back from Congress, you
know it wasn't an issue with POPVOX or your
organization’s campaign.
