Impact of Alcohol Use on American Society Essay
Alcohol is a drug that is classified as a central nervous system depressant. There are three forms of
alcohol, beer, wine and distilled spirits. Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs in the
United States and has more adverse effects that most other drugs combined. There are many aspects
to consider when thinking about alcohol as a drug. There are many myths surrounding alcohol,
including who uses it, what its effects are on users, social and sexual situations and the amounts
people drink. The vast majority of the American populationuses alcohol and in many various ways
and this also causes different effects. Alcohol is also has a great causation in crimes committed by
users, social, medical, and educational problems as a result... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A myth that many college age users like to believe is that there are numerous ways we can speed
up the process of becoming sober. These commonly believed methods include, drinking coffee,
taking a cold shower or exercising. There is only one way that a drinker can sober up and that is
to let the liver breakdown the alcohol. This process can differ in people depending on their
individual rate of metabolism, but overall this is a slow process that requires a significant amount
of time and cannot be sped up by outside means. Another commonly accepted myth and one that is
often encouraged is that drinking hard liquor will get you drunk faster than drinking beer. In fact,
the amount of alcohol in one beer is equal to the amount of alcohol in one shot of hard liquor,
(U.S. Department of Health, 1977). Although many of these myths would be beneficial to our
drinking experiences, they are all in fact false and users of alcohol must be aware of them.
Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs in the United States today. Sixty three percent of
Americans over the age of 18 said they have consumed alcohol at least once in the past year,
(National, 2001). A survey, conducted by the Core Institute, of 55,026 college students, ranging
from freshmen to seniors to non seeking degree students, from across the United States showed that
84.1% of students consumed alcohol at least once a year and that 72.1% of students

Zeppelin and Br
Was the Hindenburg disaster a result of sabotage committed by the opponents of the Nazi
organization? Did a bolt of lightning strike the zeppelin? Or was one of the most devastating
accidents in aviation history nothing but a cunningly planned insurance fraud?
br
br Over 60 years ago, airships were the queens of the skies. In the early 1900s, a stubborn, yet
brilliant German count, Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, took keen interest in balloon flights and
was devoted to the design and construction of airships. At first, he had many difficulties and
setbacks but soon his airships were able to accommodate passengers as well. This lighter than air
vehicle will later be known as a zeppelin.

The Germans pleaded to buy sufficient helium to accommodate their airship needs, but the United
States, deciding that the helium might be of military value and should be conserved, refused. When
the disaster occurs, the United States would at first, regret not selling its supply of helium to
Germany. But 2 years into World War II, they will see that they were fortunate not to have done so.
br
br The German Zeppelin Company had already flown more than one million accident free voyages
with hydrogen but the crew always checked their passengers. All objects that could cause a spark or
electric charge were confiscated including flashlights, flashbulbs and distributed felt soled shoes to
prevent static on the walkways.
br
br One of Hindenburg s first missions was a 3 day trip across Germany dropping pamphlets and
broadcasting Hitler s speeches on its loudspeaker, urging German people to support Hitler. Then, it
embarked to fly around the world.
br
br Only a year after its launch, the Hindenburg was scheduled to fly from Frankfurt, Germany to
New Jersey s Lakehurst Naval Air Station on May 3, 1937. Bad weather prevented the Hindenburg
from landing at Lakehurst, so the captain cruised down the east coast, offering passengers the
splendid view. When the storm cleared out, the Hindenburg tried to land. But suddenly a tongue of

The Potential Effects Of Stress And Trauma
THE POTENTIAL EFFECTS OF STRESS AND TRAUMA IN PILOT PERFORMANCE
Stress has potential to influence the performance of an individual. The degree of stress correlates
with the degree of arousal in a high pressure situation, which can eustress or impair an individual s
performance (Pignata, 2016). The flight deck of an aircraft is a complex operating environment
with demand for high performance between automated and human interfaces. Exposure to these
high levels of external and internal occupational (Blouin, 2014) stressors has underlying effect on
the operational performance of professional pilots both in the immediate and prolonged
circumstances. Stress and trauma education for especially training pilots is important to highlight
the potential effects of physical, physiological and psychological stressors to manage pressure and
optimise pilot performance of aviation safety.
The Federal Aviation Administration(FAA), (2012) defines stress as the sum of biological responses
to any adverse interplay of physical, mental, emotional, internal or external stimuli which
potentially disrupts the natural balance of the body. There are three main components of stress;
stress stimuli, processing systems and stress response (Pignata, 2016). Stress consists of two
categories: acute and chronic (FAA, 2012). Acute stress is the primitive flight or fight response to
immediately perceived threats. In response to the apparent stressor, the Sympathetic Nervous
System (SNS), adrenaline and

Causes of medication errors and methods to reduce errors
Nurses have an ethical and legal responsibility to assess a patient s need for a drug, administer it
safely and correctly and evaluate the response to it. They should always make patient safety a
priority because patients rely on the nurse s skills, knowledge and professionalism.
Nurses have a critical role in administering medications to the patients by following the six rights of
drug administration. These six rights are: Right medication, Right route, Right time, Right patient,
Right dosage, and Right documentation. If any of these one rights is not used properly, it can
cause medication error. Causes of medication errors are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consult the health care provider if the dosage is outside the recommended range. Administer only
those medications that have been calculated and prepared by the nurse itself rather than
administering medications someone else has calculated or prepared for you. Any drug error should
be reported to the charge nurse.
Nurses should be able to identify what a medication error is, when to report and to whom. While
personal responsibility is important, it s more efficient to shift from blaming the individual to
finding reasons on why the error occurred and how can it be prevented to avoid future mistakes.
Thus, medication errors can only be prevented and reduced by focusing on the system as a whole,
not on the individual nurse.

The Method Of Recruiting Has Changed Over Time
The method of recruiting has significantly changed over time. Today, there is less reading through
stacks of resumes and more interacting with potential employees on a casual and formal basis. The
method of job recruiting can include many different channels and practices. These methods can
consist of practices such as attending job fairs, promoting from within, online and college
recruiting, and referrals. Most recruiting methods are face to face interactions between the
employer and potential employee. This gives the employers a chance to see the candidate in person,
how they present themselves, and what they can bring to their company. Although there are many
different methods of recruiting, these practices can be separated into... Show more content on

Another disadvantage is that if you promote from within, you have to fill the position of the
person you promoted, so in a sense you are back to square one (Lussier and Hendon, 172).
Although this route may seem easier, cheaper, and less time consuming, it may not be the most
ideal route to take. On the other hand, you have external recruiting which is the process of
engaging individuals from the labor market outside of the firm to apply for a job (Lussier and
Hendon, 172). Some examples of external recruiting would be using advertisements in
newspapers, online job websites, career fairs, and referrals from current employees that would
help fulfill any open positions (Applegate). If a company is going to promote themselves at a
career fair it is important that they prepare in advance. The company must advertise! As obvious
as this may seem, some companies do not advertise because they mainly rely on word of mouth.
Some good advertising techniques would be to post flyers around local campuses, add a section
in the newspaper, advertise on the radio, and use social media platforms. The company could also
work with universities to send out an email blast to all of the students letting them know about the
career fair so that it draws more potential employees in ( Effective Career Fair Recruiting ). Being
a student at Lewis University, lately I have been seeing signs around campus about a career

Economics and Business Climate Overview of Lagos, Nigeria.
1.0Background Information
1.1Geopolitical Profile
The smallest in area of Nigeria s states (total land area of three thousand, five hundred and seventy
seven square meters), Lagos State is the most populous state (with over eighteen million people
according to 2006 population census) and unarguably the most economically important state of the
country and the nation s most urbanized (Economic Intelligence Unit, MEPB 2012).
This large, mostly young, population offers both an abundant workforce and a larger emerging and

Aside the great potentials possessed by the business and economic environment of Lagos, just to
mention but a few, there are various incentives in place for both local and international prospective
and current investors to take advantage of.
For investors willing to set up pioneer industries across various sectors of the economy, the
government has put in place a profit and dividends tax holiday of up to five years (Lagos State
Government 2012).
Keen investors desiring to invest in the agricultural sector can also take advantage of an
Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (ACGSF) administered by the Central Bank of
Nigeria (CBN) which guarantees up to seventy five percent of all loans made by commercial banks
to agricultural related activities. Manufacturers are also entitled to rapid depreciation allowances.
Mining also qualify for three years tax holiday (Lagos State Government 2012).
For SMEs, there is an SME fund which will make cheap funds at a single digit interest rate
accessible to qualified SMEs for improved productivity and job creation. In addition, SMEs pay a
lower rate in the first five years in several sectors. Dividends are also exempt

Essay On Fuel Tax
[setcounter] ( removed HTML ) setcounter{page}{1} ( removed HTML ) Summary The paper
looks at the effect of fuel taxes relative to a quota system to mitigate the negative externalities of
passenger vehicles in China. The question is relevant, as China is the world s largest car market
and is starting to adopt corrective policies. Empirical investigation of the effect of such policies on
a growing market should be a priority for research. The authors first retrieve the short run price
elasticity of mileage demand: they build a utilization equation in which they estimate vehicle usage
(miles driven) as a function of gasoline prices, household and vehicle characteristics. Then they turn
to a vehicle demand model in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their data could be very useful to identify such correlations. Note that now the variable `time that
a fuel budget of RMB 1,000 can span for a vehicle (T_{jmt}) in the demand model is not
heterogeneous across consumers (i.e. it does not depend on households mileage but only on
average market mileage). This is inconsistent with the vehicle usage equation. Other comments:
1.Section 3 Data. It would be useful to provide additional information on how representative the
survey is with respect to the population 2.Section 4 Empirical model. The discussion on the
feasible set based on consumers budget could probably be clarified. First, when trying to
understand the ratio price/average annual income for Chinese consumers, I could not see the
currency of the income averages reported in Table A1. Second, I think the model of direct utility
maximization with income heterogeneity subject to a budget constraint should already take care
of the fact that some consumers cannot afford luxury cars and opt for the outside good or a
cheaper car. That could prompt a discussion on the size of the potential market (which I did not
see in the paper). Finally, the calculation of the budget reported in the appendix could be clarified:
for example, why do we expect proportionality between budget and family size? Is family size
defined as number of income earners? 3.Section 5. Paragraph 5.2. Instruments based on sums of
characteristics correlate with markups but are not

The Learning Capabilities Through Video Games
The next topic we will cover is the part that we are most excited about. The console will have the
ability to educate and train students, military personnel, and police force. I will also be discussing
the various peripherals we have developed to aid in education and training.
We have gotten in contact with many different educators to ask what they thought about the
learning capability through video games. Video games are playing an increasing role in school
curricula as teachers seek to deliver core lessons such as math and reading not to mention new skills
such as computer programming in a format that holds their students interests. Some herald this
gamification of education as the way of the future and a tool that allows students to take a more
active role in learning as they develop the technology skills they need to succeed throughout
their academic and professional careers. (Malykhina 1) Most all of these educators had
flashbacks to times when they played games such as School House Rock and The Oregon Trail
either when they were in school or while teaching in their early years. We were reassured that they
thought gaming could be used a pivotal tool in the educating of young students. We developed the
Ninesis Gaming System to link up as many controllers as needed for a whole class; along with this
we have developed a projector peripheral that links with the system through Bluetooth that would be
placed at the vertices between the wall and the

Analysis Of Lynyrd Skynyrd s Simple Man
Striving for Simple Certain songs resonate deep down within one s soul. The reason may not
seem clear, but particular songs cause an effect on a person when they are heard. Many songs
cause this reaction, and even though a person cannot quite put his or her finger on the how and
why, a person experiences this forever. A song can achieve incredible things. Whether the song lifts
someone s spirits, transports their mind to a time and place long since passed, or breaks their

Raymund Maximilian Kolbe Thesis
What is a saint? A saint is a person of great holiness, who has performed miracles for God s
cause. What is a martyr? A martyr is someone who dies for what they believe in, just like
Maximilian Kolbe. Raymund Maximilian Kolbe was born January 8, 1894. He was born in
Zdunska Wola, in Poland. Both parents, Marianna and Juliusz, were very holy, and dedicated
much of their time and money to teach their children about the catholic faith. (Gale BIC, 2)
They were both poor weavers, who traded with Jewish merchants. From a young age,
Maximilian was very fond of his faith. He enjoyed church, and loved to pray. In 1907, Max and
his brothers decided to move to an all boys Franciscan school. Their mother was supportive of
this decision, because she wanted to shield the boys from the other sex. When he turned sixteen
in 1910, he was going to join the army, but his mother thought he was fit for the priesthood.
(Gale BIC, 4) So, Kolbe relented, and in 1912, arrived in Rome, and spend the next seven years

Love Presented in Poems by Wilfred Owen Essay
Love Presented in Poems by Wilfred Owen Explore how the theme of love is presented in
Birdsong and a selection of poems by Wilfred Owen. Loving attitudes, though perhaps not as
prominent as themes such as violence and pride, are intimately observed and explored in
Sebastian Faulks Birdsong and in many of Wilfred Owen s War poems. Each aspect of love, as
seen through the eyes of this First World War soldier and Faulks characters, is as interesting as it
is diverse, allowing an impervious insight into the psychological effects that the War had on these
men. Such a formidable event as war has a devastating effect on all parties involved. In total, the
First World War saw the deaths of 420,000 English, 450,000 German, and... Show more content on

In this poem Owen s use of strong diction and vivid figurative language such as; In all my
dreams, before my helpless sight, He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning , provides an
indication of the horror endured by these soldiers, and also emphasises the ironic anti war
message that he is trying to convey: How sweet and fitting it is to die for one s country. This
message was exactly the kind of patriotic love promoted by Jessie Pope and other pro war poets
of the time. The central conflict of the poem is the futility of war and the dehumanisation of
men. Stanza one is written in the past tense, and is laced with metaphors and similes, such as:
like old beggars under sacks , Men marched asleep and Drunk with fatigue . Its slow pace and
encumbering images lead to a melancholic air, evoking feelings of a loss of faith towards God,
one s country and human kind as a species. Stanza two moves a lot faster, bringing the hellish
imagery to life; through the misty panes and thick green light, as under a green sea, I saw him
drowning. Its fast pace and graceless, clumsy tone works well to emphasise the speed in which
these men were forced to move from half dead to ready to save themselves from a grim and
frightening death, and it s focus on just one man in stanza three makes the poem as an exploration
of human endurance seem much more personal and realistic. The love and patriotism promoted by
the government and believed by

Refugee Blues By W. H. Auden
Born in England on February 21st, 1907, W. H. Auden was an English poet who wrote many
poems based on his personal experiences. In 1928, Auden left Britain and headed to Berlin for
nine months. During that period of time, he witnessed the rise of the Nazi party and the racial
prejudice towards the Jews. This, as well as the failure of the Evian Conference and Kristallnacht
(night of broken glass), influenced him to write the poem Refugee Blues in 1939, which was prior
to the breakout of World War II. Refugee Blues is considered to be timeless, and can be applied to

Community Essay
Community
The point that community has an important effect on the shaping of a person s character is key in
both Pythia Peay s essay, Soul Searching and Winona LaDuke s interview transcribed in essay form
entitled, Reclaiming Culture and the Land: Motherhood and the Politics of Sustaining Community .
The two authors present ideas, similar and different, of what it means to live in and be a part of
community. Through examining these two essays, summarizing and synthesizing, we can gain a
better understanding of what community is and how it affects those within it.
Pythia Peay explains that for everywhere that she has resided, each place had a unique effect on

She goes on to talk of other aspects of her community such as politics and women s roles but stays
on the point that her community has a very important part in shaping her character and the
character of those around her. Then she goes on to point out that the separation of political and
cultural and spiritual is an artificial separation that s articulated by industrial society (10). LaDuke
was raised with a different sense of values than most Americans and goes on to describe her
upbringing. She notes that she was raised with little appreciation for American culture and that
consumerism, in part, is responsible for cultural destruction. Her main idea lies in the difference
between the average American community and the way she lives in her Native community at
White Earth. She points out the down side to the American community, such as consumerism and
deculturalizing of people, and tells of some of the values that her Native community has installed
upon her and her children, like respect and community, which is really her main idea.
Both of these essays point out how community shapes character. In Peay s essay she concentrates
on community as ones surroundings. She would consider community as the city in which one lives.
LaDuke is more concerned with community as a person s ideals or way of life. Both authors imply
that a person s sense of place provokes a

Illegal Immigration Is The United States
The subject of illegal immigration is nothing new in the United States. The social, economic, and
political issues surrounding illegal immigrants have been debated at the federal and state levels for
years. In the last decade, one of the issues which has received a lot of attention and development is
the issue of higher education for illegal immigrants. Until recently many illegal immigrant students
were unable to attend institutes of higher education because their lack of documentation
disqualified them from admissions and financial assistance. Without clear federal mandates on the
matter, decisions regarding higher education for undocumented immigrant students are left to the
discretion of individual states. Among various laws and statutes enacted by states, the state of
Minnesota has established its clear support of equal education opportunities for undocumented
immigrant students by granting them higher education rights through the Minnesota Dream Act.
The American Immigration Counsel estimates that across the nation 65,000 undocumented students
graduate from high school in a single year ( Dream Act ). After graduating high school, it s
approximated that less than 10 percent of undocumented immigrant students will attend college (
Dream Act ). Many of these illegal immigrant students were brought to the United States by their

Effects Of Inspiration In Edgar Allan Poe
Title: Finding Inspiration Through Catastrophe Edgar Allan Poe once said, With me, poetry has not
been a purpose, but a passion. When stressed, literature was his coping mechanism, and through
observation, many grasp how much death encompassed Poe. Although not appreciated during his
era, he revolutionized mystery with mesmerizing story plots that yield suspense but also make
readers question his stability. Most importantly, unlike those famous during his lifetime, Poe s
legacy will live on. Moreover, throughout life, Poe experienced catastrophes, and because of this,
writing became his creative outlet. Poe parents, Elizabeth and David, both aspiring actors, died
when he was three. Although he remembered them briefly, their demise altered his outlook on life.
Nevertheless, refuge found him through John and Francis Allan, who accepted his ambitions with
reluctance as they envisioned him managing the family business. While growing up, they urged
him again and again in leaning towards another career, but his passions outweighed their
gratification. Since he remained stubborn, they provided him with little support during college
years. Consequently, Poe fell into a large amount of debt and began gambling. Therefore, stricken
by destitution and humiliated, he quit school and traveled home, only to discover his girlfriend
with another man. Overall, Poe s youth was marked by ill fated events which became the building
blocks for his writing. For instance, in The Cask of

Parable Of The Sower Essay
Gianfranco Sanges Professor Crawford Literature and Climate Change 7 November 2017
Dystopian Segregation Parable of the Sower hypothesizes around the ascent of a period of
psychological oppression in America, a method of terrorism that inundates the quaint, generally
more well off white collar community. It additionally poses many dangers and consequences for
those of wealthier classes. Parable of the Sower has is set in Los Angeles and California, in a near

What Causes Lactose Intolerance
What Causes Lactose Deficiency And How It Can Be Diagnosed Lactose intolerance is
considered to be the inability to break a kind of natural sugar, which is referred to as lactose. It is
commonly established in dairy products including milk and yogurt. If a person is said to be lactose
intolerant, then his/her small intestine will stop making enough amount of lactase enzyme in order
to digest or break down the lactose. The undigested lactose will move towards the large intestine,
when this happens. The bacteria, which are usually available within the large intestine will get
interact with those undigested lactose and in turn, cause symptoms like gas, diarrhea and bloating.
This condition might also be regarded as lactase deficiency. In fact, lactose intolerance is widely
seen in adults, specifically those with African, Asian, Mediterranean Ancestry or Native American.
According to some recent studies, about 30 million American individuals of age 20 are lactose
intolerant. Even though the condition is not serious, yet it might be unpleasant. Actually, the signs
of lactose intolerance arise about 30 minutes to 2 hours after ingesting milk or else several other
dairy products with lactose. Individuals who are suffering from lactose intolerant should avoid
consuming those products or of course take medicines that contain the enzyme lactase before doing
so. The symptoms could range out of mild to severe. Typically, the severity relies on the quantity of
lactose you have consumed and also the amount of lactase, which the individual has actually made.

Emily Grierson Patriarchy
Throughout the history of society, specifically during the years prior to the era of feminism,
people have place women as the weaker gender. In literature , there have been many instances
where women have been outshined and neglected by men because their works or contribution s are
deemed to be inferior and noncompliant in the eyes of men. Men are seen as autocratic ruler of a
household and thus they feel it s their responsibility to constantly overlook and protect women due
to their inferiority that society has placed on them, as a result, men feel superior to women.
Nevertheless, men are not mindful of the effects and outcomes of their patriarchal domination on
women: depression, losing touch of reality, isolation, and worst of all, losing their sanity. An
example in literature that displays this type of structure of society where women can become
victims of patriarchal conditions takes place in the short stories A Rose for Emily by William
Faulkner and The Yellowpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both women, the main character
Emily Grierson from Faulkner s story and the narrator from Gilman s story, though they have
different circumstances, are similar in a unique way as they are both held back by the male figures
in their households within the patriarchal society, and as a result, they lose touch within each of
their societies and are forced to insanity. Feminists have described patriarchyas a system of
oppression to women. Second wave feminists, who

Kant On Enlightment
In the essay What is Enlightment? Immanuel Kant discusses his thoughts on enlightment and
what it takes for a society to reach it. In Kant s words, Enlightment is man s emergence from his
self imposed immaturity ; he uses the term immaturity as a way to describe someone who uses
other peoples thoughts to make up for their own instead of thinking for themselves. Kant then
states that these people are scared and lazy and choose to not think for themselves because they
were never allowed to in the first place so they became dependent on others thinking for them.
However, Kant believed that if a society was given freedom, they ll slowly be able to reach
enlightment. Which is where public and private use of reason come into place. Kant described

The Importance Of Walking Under Steady State Conditions
The current knowledge available from the literature on walking at different speeds assumes a direct
relationship between the level of activity of lower extremities muscles and speed. Several studies in
the past have looked into this relationship for walking under steady state conditions. In this section
we review these studies and their findings and we highlight limitations of their approaches and
discuss the suggestions to expand the analysis to walkingunder transient conditions.
Hof et al. [21] were one of the first groups to measure surface electromyograms (EMGs) from
subjects walking at different speeds. Five speeds were instructed for over ground walking and
EMGs were measured for ten walking steps at each speed. Parts of EMG profiles showed
considerable changes with speed while other parts did not show any changes. The authors
suggested that the activity at any speed could be estimated through a linear interpolation of sum of
the profile at the lowest speed and a function that represents the increase in the activity per unit
increase of normalized speed. One limitation of the calculations here was lack of statistical tests.
Because of this shortcoming the linear interpolation model could be used to make reliable
conclusions only about the effect of speed on the activity in the vicinity of the peak of each signal.
Without building the confidence intervals we cannot infer the effect of speed on activation profiles
over the entire gait cycle. In addition to lack of

Essay on The Three Witches in Macbeth
The three witches in the tragedy Macbeth are introduced right at the beginning of the play. The
scene opens with the witches chanting three prophesies: Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor,
Thane of Glamis and King. These prophesies introduce Macbeth to his plan of defeat and to over
power. Macbeth will eventually follow through in killing king Duncan. Some people believe that
the witches had the ability to reverse the order of things. This brings into the play idea of fate and
the role with which it has in the play. One can only wonder if Macbethever had a chance of doing
what was right after he met with the witches. It is however, more realistic to believe that Macbeth

The literary elements that i will be talking about are, enjambment, the theme of death and elision.
Firstly enjambment is seen more than once throughout the duration of the poem. Dickinson
says, Heavenly Hurt, it gives us/We can find no scar, (Dickinson, 5 6) during that part of the
poem she uses enjambment to create a dramatic pause, to show that it is not an actual physical
scar, but a mental one caused by, Heavenly Hurt . As with The Village Blacksmith, in A certain
Slant of Light there us a common theme of death throughout both. This theme is seen when
Dickinson says, When it goes, tis like the Distance/On the look of Death Dissimilar to the theme
within The Village Blacksmith, the message of the theme of death is different because of using
death as an object rather than a process that someone undergoes. Rather than using death as
something that the blacksmith dealt with, A certain Slant of Light personifies death as an entity
that is being described as having a distant look. Lastly, elision is the final literary technique i will
be talking about. The quote i will be using to demonstrate the use of elision says, Tis the seal
Despair (Dickinson, 10) In this quote, the use of the word Tis shows the use of elision by
shortening and combining the words it and is . I think the reason that Dickinson did this is
because the use of shortened words was more common in the time period when it was written. I
believe that Emily Dickinson s use of literary devices was able to deliver different messages, and
things to think about while reading this

When games are not taking place, the solar installations at the stadia will export energy onto the

Summary Of All Summer In A Day
All Summer In A Day by Ray Bradbury is a short story about a girl named Margot and her
experiences on the planet Venus. Margot moved to Venus from Earth when she was 4 years old,
old enough to remember the sun. On Venus, the sun only comes out every 7 years for a couple
hours, other than this, it s always raining. The other children on this planetbullied Margot, they were
mean to her because she could remember the sun, and they didn t. One lesson the story suggests is
that when you don t think about your actions, it can lead to regret and guilt.
Throughout the story, the children were jealous of Margot and bullied her. Bradbury says, They
surged about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back
into a tunnel, a room, a closet, where they slammed and locked the door. They stood looking at the
door and saw it tremble from her beating and throwing herself against it. They heard her muffled
cries. Then, smiling, they turned and went out and back down the tunnel, just as the teacher
arrived. This paragraph illustrates how mean the children were to Margot and how they acted so
quickly without really thinking about what they were doing. When the children did this they acted
out of jealousy and hurt Margot, without even knowing it. This is a reason why you should always
think before you say or do something; sometimes we can get wrapped up in our own jealousy and
hurt someone.
After the the children hurt Margot they felt terrible and guilty. In the story it states They stood as
if someone had driven them like so many stakes, into the floor. They looked at each other and
then looked away...They could not meet each other s glances. Their faces were solemn and pale.
These couple short sentences tell us how the children looked after they remembered Margot, by
knowing this, we know how they felt. Before, all of the children teamed up and shoved her in a
closet, then the sun came out and they had a great time playing outside together. After 2 hours the
sun was gone again and the children finally remember about Margot, when this happened each of
them felt tremendously guilty. This a a reason why you should always be kind to others, because no
matter what you will hurt them and

Fishing Is Fishing
Fishing had never been a hobby until I considered until this past summer. Fishing has an
importance that goes way back since my great grandpa back in Mexico. My great grandpa used
to take my father fishing to a nearby lake near their home where they would spend hours fishing
for that night s dinner. As a kid, I remember my family would take trips to the lake or rivers to
have a family gathering and a carne asada. This is where my uncles and grandpa would fish, but at
the time playing soccer with my cousins was more exciting. When I turned 13, my grandpa invited
me to go fishingto Lake Buena Vistathat Saturday morning. I immediately thought tedious but
decided to open up and try a new activity and at the end of the day, I would have a story to tell my
friends. Once at the lake, I asked my grandpa, What is so cool about fishing and he responded, It
s not about catching fish, it is about relaxing and being away from everything and enjoying
nature. Anyone can go to the market to buy a fish, but can they have the patience to battle one
and reel it in? . As the day progressed we caught a couple of catfish which my grandpa took home
and made soup with. Although that day I enjoyed myself I also found out fishing was not my
hobby. Fishing is for those who have patience and don t dread being in the sun all day. Flash

Method scheduling technique (CPM). This is evident in the research done by Tavakoli and Riachi
in 1990, in which they surveyed 400 contractors regarding usage of Critical path method approach
in scheduling. During the study they found that very high percentages (93%) of the construction
companies were using CPM for their construction projects. This reflected that the industry is
pleased with the traditional approach (CPM) for plan and management of their projects. However,
in a survey conducted by the members of the Associated General Contractors of America identified
that the scheduling technology of CPM is vital area which required improvements. However, if we

Animal Experimentation Should Be Banned
The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Mahatma Gandhi. These
famous words still ring true in today s society as we struggle to overcome the scientific
experimentation on animals. Animals have acted as the archstone of human civilization since the
dawn of man, from a source of food, to companionship. However, in the past century, we have been
blurring the line between environmental entitlement and environmental rape. Every member of the
human race interacts and depends on animals, and we owe them a certain level of respect in our

problems, causes and solutions pertaining to animal experimentation. This is a relevant issue in the
United States, where animals are inhumanely used for experimentation in both medical and

of animals were used in procedures that caused more than momentary pain or pain/distress, while
84,000 were used in studies that would cause pain or distress that would not be relieved by

Whale Rider Stereotypes
Good Morning Ms. Sheehan and classmates.
Today I will be presenting my analysis of Whale Rider. The theme I have chosen to analyse is how
Pai repeatedly demonstrates that individual strengths are more important than gender stereotypes
and in this way challenges the traditional MДЃori culture, that demands that males should be the
leaders.
This theme is illustrated throughout the movie in a number of ways, in particular: Pai is smarter
than the men, she demonstrates superior leadership qualities and she that she never dresses as a
stereotypical woman.
The first example that I will be discussing is that Pai is displayed as quite intelligent. I believe that
this is an important theme as typically, Men are portrayed smarter than women. The first scene that
illustrates Pai s intelligence is when Koro is trying to fix his boat but the rope snaps. Pai, using her
intelligence cleverly knots the rope together, so the engine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The second scene that shows Pai s intelligence is when she notices that Koro is teaching the boys
how to fight using the maori fighting art of taiaha, she cleverly persuaded her Uncle Rawiri to train
her whereas others would have simply given up.
These are both great examples of how Pai s individual strength is much more important than gender
stereotypes.
The second example that I will be examining is that Pai has better leadership qualities than the boys.
This is a very important argument as stereotypically; Women are subordinate to the men.
The first scene that portrays Pai s leadership qualities is when she finds Hemi crying about his
father abandoning him. Angered by Pai s questioning he proceeds to fight her with a traditional
MДЃori weapon called Taiaha, which Koro had been teaching the boys in preparation of becoming
the Chief.

Sociological Explanation Vs. Common Sense Knowledge
It used to be my assumption that Sociology was the same as philosophy, as in questioning things
such as what is reality, and so forth. However, it has more meaning and science behind it. Later
on in life, I began to realize that who I am was not just an innate destiny or result, but had much
more to do with what was happening around me. In addition, in my Technology and Society class I
came to realize even more how sociological influences play a significant part in our identities.
Sociological Explanation vs Common Sense Knowledge
As we grow up, we each have unique social structures and cultures surrounding us that help
develop our everyday behaviors which we view as natural or explain as common sense knowledge.
During this progression, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Known as making the familiar strange making the familiar unfamiliar helps to better understand
society and the part it plays in shaping our lives.
Sociology is more arduous than common sense for the reason that sociologists test and modify their
understanding of how the society functions through scientific research. Sociologists bring together
data and then develop concepts about what they have discovered. These concepts, or theories, are
tested using scientific methods (empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of
reasoning).to weigh their validity. Sociology, unlike common sense, utilizes methods of induction
and deduction. Source: A Sociological Perspective: Boundless.com
Functionalism. Theory that various social institutions and processes in society exist to serve
important and necessary functions in order to keep society running. Conley (2013) refers to Emile
Durkheim and Talcott Parsons belief that the best way to analyze society is to identify the roles that

Amy Winehouse s Death Media Analysis
Once upon a time, I woke up in the morning and decided to turn on the television and switch the
channel to the news. I instantly regretted the decision. Recently, the validity of news sources has
grown noticeably questionable. With lies and mistruths swarming around such an industry, it is
only natural to question various aspects of the industry as a whole. Upon further analysis,
celebrity stories strike me as an aspect that needs to be disposed of. News sources should not
publish celebrity stories since the numerous costs of the stories are much greater than is
permissible. The first reason celebrity stories are not worth publishing is due to the large time and
monetary costs of celebrity stories to the news agencies that produce them. One... Show more

This claim takes shape in how celebrity deaths teach people to not do what the celebrity did. In
particular, this is described in A Musical Matter of Life and Death: The Morality of Mortality
and the Coverage of Amy Winehouse s Death in the UK Press by Paula Hearsum, where she
analyzes the media coverage surrounding Amy Winehouse s death. In this article, Hearsum
states that Winehouse s death has brought the dangers of alcohol and drug dependency to light,
which helps society as a whole (193). Thus, the people that argue for this claim believe that
seeing the downfall of the celebrity merits writing articles about them. However, this argument
cannot be allowed to further the creation of celebrity news stories. First, these stories about
potential role models making poor decisions does not bode well for the children of the next
generation. A separate section Crack Down on the Celebrity Junkies : Does Media Coverage of
Celebrity Drug Use Pose a Risk to Young People? demonstrates this idea well. The researcher
state that reading about celebrities engulfed in drug use may affect the child s frame of reference
about drug use (Shaw 587). This means that children may obtain a warped belief on the damages
of poor behavior, perhaps justifying the action of engaging in destructive behavior later in life.
Furthermore, the stories could be told in a positive light, persuading people that poor behavioral
choices are normal. This is concept is described in part of Hearsum s essay. She states that
journalism s goal is to change the views of the audience being written for (Hearsum 183). This
means that articles supporting poor behavior in celebrities might negatively impact the decision
making of the people who read the articles. Finally, it is not ethical to encourage celebrity
journalism solely to teach

Sexual Obsession In The Maltese Falcon
Theme of Sexual Obsession and Lust for Money in The Maltese Falcon
This paper presents the theme of sexual obsession and the lust for money in the novel The Maltese
Falcon. While the novel is largely an investigative one with the serious issues of violence and
crimes, sexual obsession and the lust for money is largely articulated. The modern American
society is capitalist in nature and it is not surprising that the love for money is captured in an
investigative piece such as this. The novel can be described as a fable of modernity as it
unravels the man s strong desire for love and money. Falcon itself is an illusion of happiness

even Sam Spade is left out. The characters are seen struggling; doing anything within their power
and going out of their way to possess money and wealth and satisfy their lust for love and sex

Sioux Nation Lakota Analysis
Ever changing, the world promised a comfort of shared misery and remained reliable. Brutal
truths are instilled, early and sudden, as lasting lessons always present and impossible to ignore.
When bold questions slither into a mind as to why anything is and what may be the reason for the
continued existence, people find or create places of unjustifiable magnificence. Paha Sapa, the
heart of everything that is, is this place for the Sioux. The War of the Black Hillsbetween the Sioux
Nation Lakota and the U.S. Americans has lasted for more than a century, and continues in the
courts, in the lives of its warriors, and is protested through stone. The Black Hills land claims
have been juggled through the courts since the courts became the only viable option to the Sioux
Nation. The battle for the land has the broken promise of the two treaties of Fort Laramie as a
focal point. This breach of promise, foreseeable in consideration of all other promises made before,
remains as a last possible hope of demonstrated integrity should the US... Show more content on

Frieze Of Dancers
Frieze of Dancers is a unique that piece that ties together many of the elements of art and
principles of design. Some elements, such as time and motion, stand out more than others, but that
does not change how diverse this composition is. This painting is 27 7/8 inches tall and 78 7/8
inches wide meaning that an average sized person would be taller than the painting, but would be
smaller than the dancers when measured from left to right. However, the dancers themselves are
relatively the same size when compared to each other. Each girl takes up a specific amount of
space making them seem larger, and the background almost non existent. The space surrounding the
girls is undefined; the floor and the wall blend together into a lightbrown background. This light
brown is a part of a grander color scheme that includes darker browns and oranges. Altogether the
colors within the painting are muted with no bright colors. Instead the artist chose to use browns
and grays which seems to give the painting a more realistic and serious air.... Show more content on

The lines are not connected to each other, but the lines that are visible help to define the figures
and separate them from the background. Most of the lines found within the painting are
implied, and created by use of shadowing. This is evident in the thigh of the third dancer from
the left and the skirts of the first and second ballerina (also from the left). The third ballerina s
leg is clearly defined, but it is not defined by the lines; it is defined using darker grays. The use
of the darker colors creates a shadow that is not a clear line, but gives the viewer an idea that a
line should be there. The layers of the skirts of the first and second dancers are also defined by
shadow rather than by actual lines. These lines also give the skirts a fluffy texture; making them
seem fuller than they

A Rhetorical Analysis On What Makes A Great Song
What makes a great song? Is it the words or the verses? Is it how every line is beautifully
rhymed? Is it how a song is wonderfully metaphorical? Is it the singer itself? It could be all that
was mentioned, honestly. But not all songs have words and verses. Think about the classical
songs we have Bach, Mozart, Beethoven; not a single word can be heard from their composition
but they re great. Think about the songs that are not rhymed at each line or not rhymed at all; but
each word is perfectly laid in breathtaking musical pieces and they re great. Not all songs are
metaphorical. Some lyricists prefer being literal than figurative which results to a song easier to
comprehend for those who aren t familiar with deeper meanings behind

The Pros And Cons Of Alcohol Drinking
As a student that went to the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, and Bradford I noticed that the
Alcohol policies are different. The handbook states The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville
prohibits the possession, consumption, or sale of alcoholic beverages on campus by all students
and their visitors or guests, including those of legal age (UPT Handbook) The Alcohol policy for
UPT is no alcoholic beverageon campus. This makes sense for the kids under twenty one, but
what about the adults above the age of twenty one? My time at UBP I noticed that the drinking
rules were a little bit different then at UPT. Resident students who are 21 and older may possess
alcoholic beverages for their personal consumption and may not exceed the following limits: A.
12 cans or bottles of beer; or B. one 750 ml (0.75 liter) bottle of distilled spirits; or C. one 750 ml
(0.75 liter) bottle of wine. (UPB Handbook) This is good for the campus because it lets the
students relax in their dorms instead of out at bars, and wasting their money. Not only does it
limit the amount of money that is spent on Alcohol, it limits the risk of drunk driving, fighting
and more of a chance the police will be called. The universities could flourish when it comes to
sales of alcoholic beverages on their campuses. They could sell it during games and major events.
The revenue would be a noticeable difference for the universitybecause they could mark the price
up on any beverage being sold. They

Cash Transfer Programmes As A Means Of Reducing Poverty
Although a lot of literature has praised the cash transfer programmes as a means of reducing
poverty, there still remains a lot to be done in order to win the fight against poverty and
deprivation. Many developing countries are still characterized by harsh conditions as low or no
incomes, malnutrition, ill health, illiteracy and insecurity, among others. The impacts of these
barrages of factors could combine to perpetually keep individuals in the vicious cycle of povertyif
the right remedies are not put in place.
What this section of the paper seeks to do is to analyze cash transfer systems in some countries.
4.1 BOLSA FAMILIA BRAZIL
The Bolsa Familia Programme (BFP) was established in October 2003 by provisional measure
number 132, which was converted into Law 10.836 in 2004 . It consists of the integration of
existing conditional cash transfer programmes in Brazil, namely: Auxilio GГЎs, Bolsa
Alimentação, Cartão Alimentação and Bolsa Escola (Monica Viegas Andrade 2012).This
was done under the umbrella of a new Ministry of Social Development (MSD) (Cunha 2008).
The programme covers three essential dimensions to assist families in overcoming hunger and
poverty:
Direct income transfer to families;
Reinforcement of basic social rights in the areas of health and education, by obliging families to
comply with conditionalities;
Coordination of complementary programmes that support families in overcoming poverty.
The value of the benefits granted by the Bolsa FamГlia

Andrea Palladio And Thomas Jefferson s Monticello
To many, Andrea Palladio is seen as one of the most influential architects that there have ever been.
He is also credited with being the main influence for the architectural style known as Palladianism.
Palladianism developed well through the 18th Century and can be seen here in the U.S. When you
look at buildings like the White House and Thomas Jefferson s Monticello, we can see how much
Andrea influenced others. His influence is also seen in England looking at different houses
belonging to the royals. Andrea Palladiobuilt many buildings in his time, He built churches, town
and country houses, public buildings and bridges in Venice and on the Venetian mainland and in
and around Vicenza. In my paper, I plan on starting with Andrea Palladio and his works on places
like the Teatro Olimpico and moving onto the many iconic theaters throughout America and Europe.
And how they might or might not have been influenced by Andrea.... Show more content on

took him on his first trip to Rome. Andrea Palladio gained most of the inspiration for his future
works from his trips to Rome. The Roman style that Andrea admired so much can be seen when
looking at the work that he did reconstructing Vicenza. Every villa and public building had some

  • 2. Impact of Alcohol Use on American Society Essay Alcohol is a drug that is classified as a central nervous system depressant. There are three forms of alcohol, beer, wine and distilled spirits. Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs in the United States and has more adverse effects that most other drugs combined. There are many aspects to consider when thinking about alcohol as a drug. There are many myths surrounding alcohol, including who uses it, what its effects are on users, social and sexual situations and the amounts people drink. The vast majority of the American populationuses alcohol and in many various ways and this also causes different effects. Alcohol is also has a great causation in crimes committed by users, social, medical, and educational problems as a result... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A myth that many college age users like to believe is that there are numerous ways we can speed up the process of becoming sober. These commonly believed methods include, drinking coffee, taking a cold shower or exercising. There is only one way that a drinker can sober up and that is to let the liver breakdown the alcohol. This process can differ in people depending on their individual rate of metabolism, but overall this is a slow process that requires a significant amount of time and cannot be sped up by outside means. Another commonly accepted myth and one that is often encouraged is that drinking hard liquor will get you drunk faster than drinking beer. In fact, the amount of alcohol in one beer is equal to the amount of alcohol in one shot of hard liquor, (U.S. Department of Health, 1977). Although many of these myths would be beneficial to our drinking experiences, they are all in fact false and users of alcohol must be aware of them. Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs in the United States today. Sixty three percent of Americans over the age of 18 said they have consumed alcohol at least once in the past year, (National, 2001). A survey, conducted by the Core Institute, of 55,026 college students, ranging from freshmen to seniors to non seeking degree students, from across the United States showed that 84.1% of students consumed alcohol at least once a year and that 72.1% of students ... • 3. Zeppelin and Br Was the Hindenburg disaster a result of sabotage committed by the opponents of the Nazi organization? Did a bolt of lightning strike the zeppelin? Or was one of the most devastating accidents in aviation history nothing but a cunningly planned insurance fraud? br br Over 60 years ago, airships were the queens of the skies. In the early 1900s, a stubborn, yet brilliant German count, Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, took keen interest in balloon flights and was devoted to the design and construction of airships. At first, he had many difficulties and setbacks but soon his airships were able to accommodate passengers as well. This lighter than air vehicle will later be known as a zeppelin. br br Blimps and zeppelins were very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Germans pleaded to buy sufficient helium to accommodate their airship needs, but the United States, deciding that the helium might be of military value and should be conserved, refused. When the disaster occurs, the United States would at first, regret not selling its supply of helium to Germany. But 2 years into World War II, they will see that they were fortunate not to have done so. br br The German Zeppelin Company had already flown more than one million accident free voyages with hydrogen but the crew always checked their passengers. All objects that could cause a spark or electric charge were confiscated including flashlights, flashbulbs and distributed felt soled shoes to prevent static on the walkways. br br One of Hindenburg s first missions was a 3 day trip across Germany dropping pamphlets and broadcasting Hitler s speeches on its loudspeaker, urging German people to support Hitler. Then, it embarked to fly around the world. br br Only a year after its launch, the Hindenburg was scheduled to fly from Frankfurt, Germany to New Jersey s Lakehurst Naval Air Station on May 3, 1937. Bad weather prevented the Hindenburg from landing at Lakehurst, so the captain cruised down the east coast, offering passengers the splendid view. When the storm cleared out, the Hindenburg tried to land. But suddenly a tongue of flame ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Potential Effects Of Stress And Trauma THE POTENTIAL EFFECTS OF STRESS AND TRAUMA IN PILOT PERFORMANCE Stress has potential to influence the performance of an individual. The degree of stress correlates with the degree of arousal in a high pressure situation, which can eustress or impair an individual s performance (Pignata, 2016). The flight deck of an aircraft is a complex operating environment with demand for high performance between automated and human interfaces. Exposure to these high levels of external and internal occupational (Blouin, 2014) stressors has underlying effect on the operational performance of professional pilots both in the immediate and prolonged circumstances. Stress and trauma education for especially training pilots is important to highlight the potential effects of physical, physiological and psychological stressors to manage pressure and optimise pilot performance of aviation safety. The Federal Aviation Administration(FAA), (2012) defines stress as the sum of biological responses to any adverse interplay of physical, mental, emotional, internal or external stimuli which potentially disrupts the natural balance of the body. There are three main components of stress; stress stimuli, processing systems and stress response (Pignata, 2016). Stress consists of two categories: acute and chronic (FAA, 2012). Acute stress is the primitive flight or fight response to immediately perceived threats. In response to the apparent stressor, the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS), adrenaline and ... Causes of medication errors and methods to reduce errors Nurses have an ethical and legal responsibility to assess a patient s need for a drug, administer it safely and correctly and evaluate the response to it. They should always make patient safety a priority because patients rely on the nurse s skills, knowledge and professionalism. Nurses have a critical role in administering medications to the patients by following the six rights of drug administration. These six rights are: Right medication, Right route, Right time, Right patient, Right dosage, and Right documentation. If any of these one rights is not used properly, it can cause medication error. Causes of medication errors are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consult the health care provider if the dosage is outside the recommended range. Administer only those medications that have been calculated and prepared by the nurse itself rather than administering medications someone else has calculated or prepared for you. Any drug error should be reported to the charge nurse. Nurses should be able to identify what a medication error is, when to report and to whom. While personal responsibility is important, it s more efficient to shift from blaming the individual to finding reasons on why the error occurred and how can it be prevented to avoid future mistakes. Thus, medication errors can only be prevented and reduced by focusing on the system as a whole, not on the individual nurse. References Tully, M.P. (2012, May 3). • 6. The Method Of Recruiting Has Changed Over Time The method of recruiting has significantly changed over time. Today, there is less reading through stacks of resumes and more interacting with potential employees on a casual and formal basis. The method of job recruiting can include many different channels and practices. These methods can consist of practices such as attending job fairs, promoting from within, online and college recruiting, and referrals. Most recruiting methods are face to face interactions between the employer and potential employee. This gives the employers a chance to see the candidate in person, how they present themselves, and what they can bring to their company. Although there are many different methods of recruiting, these practices can be separated into... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another disadvantage is that if you promote from within, you have to fill the position of the person you promoted, so in a sense you are back to square one (Lussier and Hendon, 172). Although this route may seem easier, cheaper, and less time consuming, it may not be the most ideal route to take. On the other hand, you have external recruiting which is the process of engaging individuals from the labor market outside of the firm to apply for a job (Lussier and Hendon, 172). Some examples of external recruiting would be using advertisements in newspapers, online job websites, career fairs, and referrals from current employees that would help fulfill any open positions (Applegate). If a company is going to promote themselves at a career fair it is important that they prepare in advance. The company must advertise! As obvious as this may seem, some companies do not advertise because they mainly rely on word of mouth. Some good advertising techniques would be to post flyers around local campuses, add a section in the newspaper, advertise on the radio, and use social media platforms. The company could also work with universities to send out an email blast to all of the students letting them know about the career fair so that it draws more potential employees in ( Effective Career Fair Recruiting ). Essay On Fuel Tax [setcounter] ( removed HTML ) setcounter{page}{1} ( removed HTML ) Summary The paper looks at the effect of fuel taxes relative to a quota system to mitigate the negative externalities of passenger vehicles in China. The question is relevant, as China is the world s largest car market and is starting to adopt corrective policies. Empirical investigation of the effect of such policies on a growing market should be a priority for research. The authors first retrieve the short run price elasticity of mileage demand: they build a utilization equation in which they estimate vehicle usage (miles driven) as a function of gasoline prices, household and vehicle characteristics. Then they turn to a vehicle demand model in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their data could be very useful to identify such correlations. Note that now the variable `time that a fuel budget of RMB 1,000 can span for a vehicle (T_{jmt}) in the demand model is not heterogeneous across consumers (i.e. it does not depend on households mileage but only on average market mileage). This is inconsistent with the vehicle usage equation. Other comments: 1.Section 3 Data. It would be useful to provide additional information on how representative the survey is with respect to the population 2.Section 4 Empirical model. The discussion on the feasible set based on consumers budget could probably be clarified. First, when trying to understand the ratio price/average annual income for Chinese consumers, I could not see the currency of the income averages reported in Table A1. Second, I think the model of direct utility maximization with income heterogeneity subject to a budget constraint should already take care of the fact that some consumers cannot afford luxury cars and opt for the outside good or a cheaper car. That could prompt a discussion on the size of the potential market (which I did not see in the paper). Finally, the calculation of the budget reported in the appendix could be clarified: for example, why do we expect proportionality between budget and family size? Is family size defined as number of income earners? 3.Section 5. Paragraph 5.2. Instruments based on sums of characteristics correlate with markups but are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Learning Capabilities Through Video Games The next topic we will cover is the part that we are most excited about. The console will have the ability to educate and train students, military personnel, and police force. I will also be discussing the various peripherals we have developed to aid in education and training. We have gotten in contact with many different educators to ask what they thought about the learning capability through video games. Video games are playing an increasing role in school curricula as teachers seek to deliver core lessons such as math and reading not to mention new skills such as computer programming in a format that holds their students interests. Some herald this gamification of education as the way of the future and a tool that allows students to take a more active role in learning as they develop the technology skills they need to succeed throughout their academic and professional careers. (Malykhina 1) Most all of these educators had flashbacks to times when they played games such as School House Rock and The Oregon Trail either when they were in school or while teaching in their early years. We were reassured that they thought gaming could be used a pivotal tool in the educating of young students. We developed the Ninesis Gaming System to link up as many controllers as needed for a whole class; along with this we have developed a projector peripheral that links with the system through Bluetooth that would be placed at the vertices between the wall and the ... A martyr is someone who dies for what they believe in, just like Maximilian Kolbe. Raymund Maximilian Kolbe was born January 8, 1894. He was born in Zdunska Wola, in Poland. Each aspect of love, as seen through the eyes of this First World War soldier and Faulks characters, is as interesting as it is diverse, allowing an impervious insight into the psychological effects that the War had on these men. Such a formidable event as war has a devastating effect on all parties involved. In total, the First World War saw the deaths of 420,000 English, 450,000 German, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this poem Owen s use of strong diction and vivid figurative language such as; In all my dreams, before my helpless sight, He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning , provides an indication of the horror endured by these soldiers, and also emphasises the ironic anti war message that he is trying to convey: How sweet and fitting it is to die for one s country. This message was exactly the kind of patriotic love promoted by Jessie Pope and other pro war poets of the time. The central conflict of the poem is the futility of war and the dehumanisation of men. Stanza one is written in the past tense, and is laced with metaphors and similes, such as: like old beggars under sacks , Men marched asleep and Drunk with fatigue . Its slow pace and encumbering images lead to a melancholic air, evoking feelings of a loss of faith towards God, one s country and human kind as a species. Stanza two moves a lot faster, bringing the hellish imagery to life; through the misty panes and thick green light, as under a green sea, I saw him drowning. Its fast pace and graceless, clumsy tone works well to emphasise the speed in which these men were forced to move from half dead to ready to save themselves from a grim and frightening death, and it s focus on just one man in stanza three makes the poem as an exploration of human endurance seem much more personal and realistic. The love and patriotism promoted by the government and believed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1928, Auden left Britain and headed to Berlin for nine months. During that period of time, he witnessed the rise of the Nazi party and the racial prejudice towards the Jews. This, as well as the failure of the Evian Conference and Kristallnacht (night of broken glass), influenced him to write the poem Refugee Blues in 1939, which was prior to the breakout of World War II. Yet, it was the opposite for Jews. Despite them begging and pleading, the Germans turned a blind eye towards them. In addition, the word door connotes with new opportunities and beginnings. The two authors present ideas, similar and different, of what it means to live in and be a part of community. LaDuke was raised with a different sense of values than most Americans and goes on to describe her upbringing. She notes that she was raised with little appreciation for American culture and that consumerism, in part, is responsible for cultural destruction. Her main idea lies in the difference between the average American community and the way she lives in her Native community at White Earth. She points out the down side to the American community, such as consumerism and deculturalizing of people, and tells of some of the values that her Native community has installed upon her and her children, like respect and community, which is really her main idea. Both of these essays point out how community shapes character. In Peay s essay she concentrates on community as ones surroundings. She would consider community as the city in which one lives. The social, economic, and political issues surrounding illegal immigrants have been debated at the federal and state levels for years. In the last decade, one of the issues which has received a lot of attention and development is the issue of higher education for illegal immigrants. Until recently many illegal immigrant students were unable to attend institutes of higher education because their lack of documentation disqualified them from admissions and financial assistance. Without clear federal mandates on the matter, decisions regarding higher education for undocumented immigrant students are left to the discretion of individual states. Among various laws and statutes enacted by states, the state of Minnesota has established its clear support of equal education opportunities for undocumented immigrant students by granting them higher education rights through the Minnesota Dream Act. The American Immigration Counsel estimates that across the nation 65,000 undocumented students graduate from high school in a single year ( Dream Act ). After graduating high school, it s approximated that less than 10 percent of undocumented immigrant students will attend college ( Dream Act ). When stressed, literature was his coping mechanism, and through observation, many grasp how much death encompassed Poe. Most importantly, unlike those famous during his lifetime, Poe s legacy will live on. Moreover, throughout life, Poe experienced catastrophes, and because of this, writing became his creative outlet. Poe parents, Elizabeth and David, both aspiring actors, died when he was three. Although he remembered them briefly, their demise altered his outlook on life. Nevertheless, refuge found him through John and Francis Allan, who accepted his ambitions with reluctance as they envisioned him managing the family business. While growing up, they urged him again and again in leaning towards another career, but his passions outweighed their gratification. Since he remained stubborn, they provided him with little support during college years. Consequently, Poe fell into a large amount of debt and began gambling. Therefore, stricken by destitution and humiliated, he quit school and traveled home, only to discover his girlfriend with another man. What Causes Lactose Intolerance What Causes Lactose Deficiency And How It Can Be Diagnosed Lactose intolerance is considered to be the inability to break a kind of natural sugar, which is referred to as lactose. It is commonly established in dairy products including milk and yogurt. If a person is said to be lactose intolerant, then his/her small intestine will stop making enough amount of lactase enzyme in order to digest or break down the lactose. The undigested lactose will move towards the large intestine, when this happens. The bacteria, which are usually available within the large intestine will get interact with those undigested lactose and in turn, cause symptoms like gas, diarrhea and bloating. • 22. Emily Grierson Patriarchy Throughout the history of society, specifically during the years prior to the era of feminism, people have place women as the weaker gender. In literature , there have been many instances where women have been outshined and neglected by men because their works or contribution s are deemed to be inferior and noncompliant in the eyes of men. Men are seen as autocratic ruler of a household and thus they feel it s their responsibility to constantly overlook and protect women due to their inferiority that society has placed on them, as a result, men feel superior to women. Nevertheless, men are not mindful of the effects and outcomes of their patriarchal domination on women: depression, losing touch of reality, isolation, and worst of all, losing their sanity. An example in literature that displays this type of structure of society where women can become victims of patriarchal conditions takes place in the short stories A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner and The Yellowpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both women, the main character Emily Grierson from Faulkner s story and the narrator from Gilman s story, though they have different circumstances, are similar in a unique way as they are both held back by the male figures in their households within the patriarchal society, and as a result, they lose touch within each of their societies and are forced to insanity. The Importance Of Walking Under Steady State Conditions The current knowledge available from the literature on walking at different speeds assumes a direct relationship between the level of activity of lower extremities muscles and speed. Several studies in the past have looked into this relationship for walking under steady state conditions. In this section we review these studies and their findings and we highlight limitations of their approaches and discuss the suggestions to expand the analysis to walkingunder transient conditions. Hof et al. [21] were one of the first groups to measure surface electromyograms (EMGs) from subjects walking at different speeds. Five speeds were instructed for over ground walking and EMGs were measured for ten walking steps at each speed. Parts of EMG profiles showed considerable changes with speed while other parts did not show any changes. The authors suggested that the activity at any speed could be estimated through a linear interpolation of sum of the profile at the lowest speed and a function that represents the increase in the activity per unit increase of normalized speed. One limitation of the calculations here was lack of statistical tests. Because of this shortcoming the linear interpolation model could be used to make reliable conclusions only about the effect of speed on the activity in the vicinity of the peak of each signal. Without building the confidence intervals we cannot infer the effect of speed on activation profiles over the entire gait cycle. In addition to lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The literary elements that i will be talking about are, enjambment, the theme of death and elision. Firstly enjambment is seen more than once throughout the duration of the poem. Dickinson says, Heavenly Hurt, it gives us/We can find no scar, (Dickinson, 5 6) during that part of the poem she uses enjambment to create a dramatic pause, to show that it is not an actual physical scar, but a mental one caused by, Heavenly Hurt . As with The Village Blacksmith, in A certain Slant of Light there us a common theme of death throughout both. This theme is seen when Dickinson says, When it goes, tis like the Distance/On the look of Death Dissimilar to the theme within The Village Blacksmith, the message of the theme of death is different because of using death as an object rather than a process that someone undergoes. Rather than using death as something that the blacksmith dealt with, A certain Slant of Light personifies death as an entity that is being described as having a distant look. Lastly, elision is the final literary technique i will be talking about. The quote i will be using to demonstrate the use of elision says, Tis the seal Despair (Dickinson, 10) In this quote, the use of the word Tis shows the use of elision by shortening and combining the words it and is . • 28. Summary Of All Summer In A Day All Summer In A Day by Ray Bradbury is a short story about a girl named Margot and her experiences on the planet Venus. Margot moved to Venus from Earth when she was 4 years old, old enough to remember the sun. On Venus, the sun only comes out every 7 years for a couple hours, other than this, it s always raining. The other children on this planetbullied Margot, they were mean to her because she could remember the sun, and they didn t. One lesson the story suggests is that when you don t think about your actions, it can lead to regret and guilt. Throughout the story, the children were jealous of Margot and bullied her. Bradbury says, They surged about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a room, a closet, where they slammed and locked the door. They stood looking at the door and saw it tremble from her beating and throwing herself against it. They heard her muffled cries. Then, smiling, they turned and went out and back down the tunnel, just as the teacher arrived. This paragraph illustrates how mean the children were to Margot and how they acted so quickly without really thinking about what they were doing. When the children did this they acted out of jealousy and hurt Margot, without even knowing it. This is a reason why you should always think before you say or do something; sometimes we can get wrapped up in our own jealousy and hurt someone. After the the children hurt Margot they felt terrible and guilty. In the story it states They stood as if someone had driven them like so many stakes, into the floor. They looked at each other and then looked away...They could not meet each other s glances. Their faces were solemn and pale. These couple short sentences tell us how the children looked after they remembered Margot, by knowing this, we know how they felt. Before, all of the children teamed up and shoved her in a closet, then the sun came out and they had a great time playing outside together. After 2 hours the sun was gone again and the children finally remember about Margot, when this happened each of them felt tremendously guilty. (Exodus 12:3 6; Leviticus 23:5) this would later be revealed as a depiction of the sacrifice of Jesus although those participating in the sacrifices of animals did not know it at the time. The bible says in John 1:29 41 The next day John seeth Jesuscoming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. • 38. Whale Rider Stereotypes Good Morning Ms. Sheehan and classmates. Today I will be presenting my analysis of Whale Rider. The theme I have chosen to analyse is how Pai repeatedly demonstrates that individual strengths are more important than gender stereotypes and in this way challenges the traditional MДЃori culture, that demands that males should be the leaders. This theme is illustrated throughout the movie in a number of ways, in particular: Pai is smarter than the men, she demonstrates superior leadership qualities and she that she never dresses as a stereotypical woman. The first example that I will be discussing is that Pai is displayed as quite intelligent. I believe that this is an important theme as typically, Men are portrayed smarter than women. The first scene that illustrates Pai s intelligence is when Koro is trying to fix his boat but the rope snaps. Pai, using her intelligence cleverly knots the rope together, so the engine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second scene that shows Pai s intelligence is when she notices that Koro is teaching the boys how to fight using the maori fighting art of taiaha, she cleverly persuaded her Uncle Rawiri to train her whereas others would have simply given up. These are both great examples of how Pai s individual strength is much more important than gender stereotypes. The second example that I will be examining is that Pai has better leadership qualities than the boys. This is a very important argument as stereotypically; Women are subordinate to the men. The first scene that portrays Pai s leadership qualities is when she finds Hemi crying about his father abandoning him. Angered by Pai s questioning he proceeds to fight her with a traditional MДЃori weapon called Taiaha, which Koro had been teaching the boys in preparation of becoming the Chief. Fortunately, Pai is not troubled by him and quickly beats him thanks to being trained by her uncle, who was once a champion Taiaha ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Slaughterhouse-Five Vonnegut Throughout Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut chooses to use special literary techniques that better explain his own encounters in war as well as help his readers bare the horridness of war. Vonnegut adds black humor in his text to benefit readers as well as an author as character perspective to set barriers and help protect his own memories in the war. Without adding these two specific devices, Vonnegut could possibly have lost reader s interests in the book or lost his own interest in writing the book. Another literary device Vonnegut uses within his Slaughterhouse Five is black humor. This is found in the book so readers are able to feel more lighthearted when remembering the war. There are though, critics who believe by adding black humor, Vonnegut is degrading the tragedy of war. I believe Vonnegut uses black humor in his attempt to console readers (as well as himself), in hopes of making the horrific, painful, unthinkable events of the war more bearable to read about. Just in the first chapter readers see Mary O Hare s frustration towards Vonnegut for even wanting to write a book about the war in the first place. • 40. Sociological Explanation Vs. Common Sense Knowledge It used to be my assumption that Sociology was the same as philosophy, as in questioning things such as what is reality, and so forth. However, it has more meaning and science behind it. Later on in life, I began to realize that who I am was not just an innate destiny or result, but had much more to do with what was happening around me. In addition, in my Technology and Society class I came to realize even more how sociological influences play a significant part in our identities. • 41. Amy Winehouse s Death Media Analysis Once upon a time, I woke up in the morning and decided to turn on the television and switch the channel to the news. I instantly regretted the decision. Recently, the validity of news sources has grown noticeably questionable. With lies and mistruths swarming around such an industry, it is only natural to question various aspects of the industry as a whole. Upon further analysis, celebrity stories strike me as an aspect that needs to be disposed of. News sources should not publish celebrity stories since the numerous costs of the stories are much greater than is permissible. The first reason celebrity stories are not worth publishing is due to the large time and monetary costs of celebrity stories to the news agencies that produce them. One... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This claim takes shape in how celebrity deaths teach people to not do what the celebrity did. In particular, this is described in A Musical Matter of Life and Death: The Morality of Mortality and the Coverage of Amy Winehouse s Death in the UK Press by Paula Hearsum, where she analyzes the media coverage surrounding Amy Winehouse s death. In this article, Hearsum states that Winehouse s death has brought the dangers of alcohol and drug dependency to light, which helps society as a whole (193). Thus, the people that argue for this claim believe that seeing the downfall of the celebrity merits writing articles about them. However, this argument cannot be allowed to further the creation of celebrity news stories. First, these stories about potential role models making poor decisions does not bode well for the children of the next generation. A separate section Crack Down on the Celebrity Junkies : Does Media Coverage of Celebrity Drug Use Pose a Risk to Young People? demonstrates this idea well. The researcher state that reading about celebrities engulfed in drug use may affect the child s frame of reference about drug use (Shaw 587). This means that children may obtain a warped belief on the damages of poor behavior, perhaps justifying the action of engaging in destructive behavior later in life. Furthermore, the stories could be told in a positive light, persuading people that poor behavioral choices are normal. This is concept is described in part of Hearsum s essay. She states that journalism s goal is to change the views of the audience being written for (Hearsum 183). This means that articles supporting poor behavior in celebrities might negatively impact the decision making of the people who read the articles. Finally, it is not ethical to encourage celebrity journalism solely to teach ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some elements, such as time and motion, stand out more than others, but that does not change how diverse this composition is. This painting is 27 7/8 inches tall and 78 7/8 inches wide meaning that an average sized person would be taller than the painting, but would be smaller than the dancers when measured from left to right. However, the dancers themselves are relatively the same size when compared to each other. Each girl takes up a specific amount of space making them seem larger, and the background almost non existent. The space surrounding the girls is undefined; the floor and the wall blend together into a lightbrown background. The third ballerina s leg is clearly defined, but it is not defined by the lines; it is defined using darker grays. The handbook states The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville prohibits the possession, consumption, or sale of alcoholic beverages on campus by all students and their visitors or guests, including those of legal age (UPT Handbook) The Alcohol policy for UPT is no alcoholic beverageon campus. This makes sense for the kids under twenty one, but what about the adults above the age of twenty one? My time at UBP I noticed that the drinking rules were a little bit different then at UPT. Resident students who are 21 and older may possess alcoholic beverages for their personal consumption and may not exceed the following limits: A. 12 cans or bottles of beer; or B. one 750 ml (0.75 liter) bottle of distilled spirits; or C. one 750 ml (0.75 liter) bottle of wine. (UPB Handbook) This is good for the campus because it lets the students relax in their dorms instead of out at bars, and wasting their money. Not only does it limit the amount of money that is spent on Alcohol, it limits the risk of drunk driving, fighting and more of a chance the police will be called. Cash Transfer Programmes As A Means Of Reducing Poverty Although a lot of literature has praised the cash transfer programmes as a means of reducing poverty, there still remains a lot to be done in order to win the fight against poverty and deprivation. Many developing countries are still characterized by harsh conditions as low or no incomes, malnutrition, ill health, illiteracy and insecurity, among others. The impacts of these barrages of factors could combine to perpetually keep individuals in the vicious cycle of povertyif the right remedies are not put in place.
