• It is the third-largest newspaper in India by circulation
• largest selling English-language daily in the world according to
Audit Bureau of Circulations (India)
• It is owned and published by Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd.
which is owned by the Sahu Jain family.
• Circulation -3,049,920 daily(as of Nov 2015)
• Format used-Broadsheet (largest of newspaper format-long
vertical pages)

• Point of contact with the readers.
• The no. of orders are determined according to the
demand of the respective area and conveyed to the
distributor.
• Vendor does the manual entry of orders whereas the
whole system is computerized.
• Vendor collects the money from the readers, keeps his
commission( commonly known as Cut) and passes the
rest to the distributor.

 The bundles are dropped at drop points set by the

 The data regarding the order nos. are entered in the system
by the RMD department and the same data is then used
throughout the process.

-They purchase newsprint from Indian as well as foreign
company.
-They stock up to 6 months is kept to avoid any situations
like strike, lockouts and shortages.
-Sometimes the delivery of newsprint also takes time since
it needs to be imported.
Production
Printing
• 1st printing starts at around 11:30 pm in the
night.
• The orders are accepted only till the late
evening.
• But some vendors have the liberty to order till
10:30-11:30 pm that is before the printing
starts.
• Distribution lines in Mumbai:
1.Central (Ambarnath to Dadar)
2.Western (Rest)
• They collect the orders from different vendors.
• Accumulate orders and put it in one figure and
convey it to the production department.

• The farther the place the copies goes first.
• The newspaper bundles with labels need to reach the
drop points by morning 4:00am anyhow.
• On fly changes- during the production online editing of
the news happens, therefore the places nearer to the
production hubs get the latest news ( e.g. there is a
printing press at Kandivali TOI therefore the people
living there get the copies at last and the latest news.)
Delivery
• Transportation part is outsourced to agencies.
• Since the tie ups are very old, the transporters know
in and out of the whole system.
• Airports and big hotels have there own transport for
the delivery of newspapers, as they need in very
large quantities, they are also given concession on
their orders.
Transportation
• Different areas different tenders are called every year.
• Tender is called based on distance, load and time
(arrival and delivery) of each area.
• The lowest cost worth tender is selected.
• Strike or Band of Transport
(mostly unaffected since it comes in the category of
essential commodities.)
• Only during riots and floods they face severe problems.
• Overhauling of machinery.
• Incase any advertisement to be published has been
affected.
• The delivery of the newspapers to the drop points are
not on time.
• Vendor unions (strike on demand of higher
commission)

Introduction • The Times of India (TOI) • is an Indian English-language daily newspaper • It is the third-largest newspaper in India by circulation • largest selling English-language daily in the world according to Audit Bureau of Circulations (India) • It is owned and published by Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. which is owned by the Sahu Jain family. • Circulation -3,049,920 daily(as of Nov 2015) • Format used-Broadsheet (largest of newspaper format-long vertical pages)

  • 5. • Point of contact with the readers. • The no. of orders are determined according to the demand of the respective area and conveyed to the distributor. • Vendor does the manual entry of orders whereas the whole system is computerized. • Vendor collects the money from the readers, keeps his commission( commonly known as Cut) and passes the rest to the distributor.   • 14. Printing • 1st printing starts at around 11:30 pm in the night. • The orders are accepted only till the late evening. • But some vendors have the liberty to order till 10:30-11:30 pm that is before the printing starts.

  • 19. • The farther the place the copies goes first. • The newspaper bundles with labels need to reach the drop points by morning 4:00am anyhow. • On fly changes- during the production online editing of the news happens, therefore the places nearer to the production hubs get the latest news ( e.g. there is a printing press at Kandivali TOI therefore the people living there get the copies at last and the latest news.)   • 21. • Transportation part is outsourced to agencies. • Since the tie ups are very old, the transporters know in and out of the whole system. • Airports and big hotels have there own transport for the delivery of newspapers, as they need in very large quantities, they are also given concession on their orders.
