Tourism
 Tourism is one of the world’s fastest growing
industries as well as the major source of income
for many countries, and affects the economy of
both the source and host countries. It also source
foreign exchange earning and employment for
many developing countries.
 Since the 1st international conference on climate
change and tourism, convened by UNWTO in
Djerba, Tunisia in 2003, a growing body of
knowledge has been generated addressing the
complex relationship between the tourism sector
and climate change with important research
activities on this subject.
 Climate change is a change in average
weather condition , or in the time variation of
weather. Mainly climate change is caused by
factors such as biotic processes, variations in
solar radiation received by earth, plate
tectonics, and volcanic eruptions. Certain
human activities also cause climate change.
 tourism sector is contributing to greenhouse
gas emissions (GHG), especially through the
transport of tourists
 Sometime tourism is responsible for degradation of
the environment and loss of local identity and
traditional cultures and one tenth of the world’s
carbon emissions.
 Tourism accounts for around 8 percent of global
greenhouse gas emissions, according to a new study
that the first attempt to quantify the industry’s total
carbon footprint.
 Uncontrolled conventional tourism poses potential
threats to many natural areas around the world.
 It impacts such as soil erosion, increased pollution,
discharge into the sea natural habitat loss , increase
pressure on endangered species and heightened
vulnerability to forest fires.
 The contribution of tourism to green house
gas emission is rising, and are projected to
grow 130% between 2005 and 2035.
 Overall impact of tourism is between 4% and
10% globally.
 Almost 90% of all tourism greenhouse gas
emissions are generated by transport in
general and some 70-80% of this relates to
air transport in particular, while road
transport is still the main transport mode of
topurism.
 Ecotourism is a form of tourism and a part of
environmental conversation.
 Ecotourism is now defined as "responsible
travel to natural areas that conserves the
environment, sustains the well-being of the
local people, and involves interpretation and
education" (TIES, 2015). Education is meant
to be inclusive of both staff and guests.
 Ecotourism is about conservation, communities, and sustainable
travel. This means that those who implement, participate in and
market ecotourism activities should adopt the following
ecotourism principles:
 Minimize physical, social, behavioral, and psychological impacts.
 Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect.
 Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts.
 Provide direct financial benefits for conservation.
 Deliver memorable interpretative experiences to visitors that
help raise sensitivity to host countries' political, environmental,
and social climates.
 Design, construct and operate low-impact facilities.
 Recognize the rights and spiritual beliefs of the Indigenous
People in your community and work in partnership with them to
create empowerment.
