What is a blog? Is a journal or diary (Blog, 2006) Usually displayed in a reverse chronological order. A commentary or news on a particular subject blogs are  primarily  textual…  they sometimes contain; photographs (photoblog) videos (vlog) audio (podcasting) Are part of the social network / media

Educational Uses
Writing Simpson (1999) states, “One of the best ways of  entrenching  one's knowledge is to explain it to others…” Hutchings (2002) credits Shulman with the notion of  publicly  sharing one’s work for critical review that became accepted as an  integral element of the scholarship  of teaching and learning.
Beyond Constructivism Social Constructivism Social constructivism is a variety of  cognitive  constructivism that emphasizes the  collaborative  nature of learning.  Progressive Inquiry; Rahikainen (2001)

What is a podcast? A podcast is a  multimedia  file distributed over the Internet using  syndication  feeds, for playback on  mobile devices  and personal computers. The term as originally coined by Ben Hammersley in an article in the Guardian on February 12, 2004, was meant as a  portmanteau  of " broadcasting " and " iPod ". (“Podcast,” 2006)

Video Podcasts ? On the provided ‘4 x 6’ cards Write  one  idea per card for a video podcast within your discipline. Write as  many  as you can. You have 3 minutes to complete this activity

What is a wiki? A Web site that allows visitors to add, remove, and edit content. Without the need for registration.  An effective tool for collaborative authoring.  On-line encyclopedias such as Wikipedia.

4 Person Group Activity Put one digital device in the centre of your table Look at the device, reflect upon teaching theory (VAK, Kolb) As a group create a pedagogically sound instructional activity incorporating technology If you finish this task for one digital device, add a different device to the table and start again using the two devices.
Example One 1.  Listen to the  podcast of poems with author critiques. 4.  Write a poem within a similar theme. Create a podcast of your poem. Remember to critique your own poem. 2.  Phone in your initial Thoughts and feelings about the poem. 3.  Download text copies  of the poems and reflect upon the poems. Identify  the themes across all  poems.

Example Two 1.  Email and blog  entry graphic of periodic table. 4.  Recreate the color scheme of the periodic Table. Provide one page document describing the schemes rationale.  2.  On the course blog submit  your initial reactions to  the periodic table. Describe; colors, # of columns and rows, differences & similarities, etc… by 1:00 PM 3.  Attend lecture on periodic table.
4 Person Group Activity Describe an information event delivered by the device. Describe an activity that would prompt for initial thoughts and feelings regarding the information event. (You do not have to use the same device as step 1.) Describe a follow-up event that confirms and deepens the information from the initial event. (You do not have to use the same device as step 1.) Using the same device as step 1. Describe an activity that would ask the learner to use the information to create an event within the same theme initiated by the first three steps.

  • 2. Workshop Objectives Discuss how selected technologies can be used to facilitate the teaching-learning process. Design a learning experience that uses a new technology to achieve a learning objective
  • 4. Put up your left hand if you have used a computer to create or edit a document Put up your right hand if you have used the internet to do research Stand up if you have used a cell phone to talk with someone regarding your studies Move to the left of the room if you have listened to a podcast on any subject Move to the front of the room if you have watched a video podcast Leave the room if you have created a video podcast What have you learned? ?

A commentary or news on a particular subject blogs are primarily textual… they sometimes contain; photographs (photoblog) videos (vlog) audio (podcasting) Are part of the social network / media

The term as originally coined by Ben Hammersley in an article in the Guardian on February 12, 2004, was meant as a portmanteau of " broadcasting " and " iPod ". (“Podcast,” 2006)

  • 17. Video Podcasts ? On the provided ‘4 x 6’ cards Write one idea per card for a video podcast within your discipline. Write as many as you can. You have 3 minutes to complete this activity

  • 19. What is a wiki? A Web site that allows visitors to add, remove, and edit content. Without the need for registration. An effective tool for collaborative authoring. On-line encyclopedias such as Wikipedia.
  • 21. Mash-up Blogs and Klogs Podcast, Vodcast & Skypecast Wiki & Bliki Moos, Muds & Gaming
  • 22. 4 Person Group Activity Put one digital device in the centre of your table Look at the device, reflect upon teaching theory (VAK, Kolb) As a group create a pedagogically sound instructional activity incorporating technology If you finish this task for one digital device, add a different device to the table and start again using the two devices.
  • 23. Example One 1. Listen to the podcast of poems with author critiques. 4. Write a poem within a similar theme. Create a podcast of your poem. Remember to critique your own poem. 2. Phone in your initial Thoughts and feelings about the poem. 3. Download text copies of the poems and reflect upon the poems. Identify the themes across all poems.
  • 25. Example Two 1. Email and blog entry graphic of periodic table. 4. Recreate the color scheme of the periodic Table. Provide one page document describing the schemes rationale. 2. On the course blog submit your initial reactions to the periodic table. Describe; colors, # of columns and rows, differences & similarities, etc… by 1:00 PM 3. Attend lecture on periodic table.
  • 26. 4 Person Group Activity Describe an information event delivered by the device. Describe an activity that would prompt for initial thoughts and feelings regarding the information event. (You do not have to use the same device as step 1.) Describe a follow-up event that confirms and deepens the information from the initial event. (You do not have to use the same device as step 1.) Using the same device as step 1. Describe an activity that would ask the learner to use the information to create an event within the same theme initiated by the first three steps.
