Teaching and training

What is Teaching? • Teaching is typically defined as, • Impart knowledge to or instruct (someone) as to how to do something. • Give information about or instruction in (a subject or skill) • Cause (someone) to learn or understand something by example or experience. • Encourage someone to accept (something) as a fact or principle.
What is Training? • Organized activity aimed at imparting information and/or instructions to improve the recipient's performance or to help him or her attain a required level of knowledge or skill.
Aims of teaching • Through teaching the aim is to help each child become: • An individual – thoughtful, creative and imaginative • A cooperative person – someone who can form positive relationships and work as part of a team • A whole person – responding to challenges, motivated and independent • A responsible person – aware of others’ needs and diversity, questioning and understanding
The Objectives of Training • To impart job-related knowledge to your staff • To impart skill knowledge systematically • To enhance equipment handling practices • To enable workers to respond to technological changes which can affect their job requirements. • To give them the ability to adapt to changes resulting from increased diversity in the workforce.
Difference between Teaching and Training Teaching • Teaching is related to theoretical concepts • Teaching seeks to impart new knowledge • Teaching fills minds Training • Training is the practical application of knowledge • Training equips the already knowledgeable with tools and techniques to develop a specific skill set. • Training shapes habits
Teaching • Teaching provides breadth of knowledge in all spheres. • Teaching is, in general, a broader area. • Teacher provides information, knowledge, experience. Training • Training provides depth of knowledge in a specific sphere. • Training is for a specific area. • Trainer facilitates learning.
Teaching • Teaching lays stress on education, knowledge and wisdom with a longer time span. • Teaching gives extensive domains with limited knowledge in general. Training • Training lays stress on skills and abilities with a shorter time span. • Training gives intensive information about a limited domain.
Teaching • Teaching may relate to the subject area. • Generally teacher provides feedback to students. • Teaching usually refers to classroom learning. Training • Training may relate to functional area. • On the other hand, the trainer gets feedback from trainees. • training refers workshops, seminars involving various games, role-plays, etc.,
