Little Thought, It Can Help You Uncover Opportunities
That You Are Well-placed To Exploit.
And by understanding the
WEAKNESSES, you can
manage and eliminate
THREATS that would
otherwise catch you
unawares.
Strengths and weaknesses are often internal
factors, while opportunities and threats
generally relate to external factors. For this
reason, SWOT is sometimes called Internal-
External.
STEP 1: Identify strengths and weaknesses from
both your own point of view and that of others,
including those you serve or deal with.
STEP 2:You need to enhance your weakness to
compete with the best.
STEP 3: Opportunities provide you the reasons
that you or your business would prosper.
IDENTIFY THEM!

which you do not have any control.

Internal factor STRENGTH
– What do you do well?
– What internal resources
do you have?
– Think about the Positive
attributes of people; such
as Knowledge,
Background, Education,
Credentials, Network,
Reputation, Or Skills.
SWOT Analysis
Internal factor STRENGTH
– Think about Tangible assets of the company, such
as Capital, Credit, Existing Customers Or
Distribution Channels, Patents, Or Technology.
– What other positive aspects, internal to your
business, add value or offer you a competitive
advantage?
SWOT Analysis
Internal factor WEAKNESS
– What could you improve?
– What should you avoid?
– What areas need
improvement to
accomplish your objectives
or compete with your
strongest competitor?
SWOT Analysis
Internal factor WEAKNESS
– What does your business lack (for
example, expertise or access to skills or
technology)?
– Do other people seem to perceive
weaknesses that you don't see?
Here’s A Wonderful
Story You would want
to know!!!
A 10-year-old boy decided to study judo
despite the fact that he had lost his left arm
in a devastating car accident.
The boy began lessons with an old Japanese
judo master.
He was doing well, so he couldn't
understand why, after three months of
training the master had taught him only one
move.
The boy asked his
teacher to teach him
more moves. The
teacher replied "This is
the only move you know,
but this is the only move
you'll ever need to
know.”
The boy did not
understand but believed
his teacher and
continued practicing.
When the tournament started the
boy won the first three matches
easily and moving ahead he soon
reached the Finals!
This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced.
Concerned that the boy might get hurt the referee called a time-out.
He was about to stop the match when the teacher intervened and
asked the referee to continue.
When the match resumed, the
opponent dropped his guard and boy
played his move to pin him.
THE BOY WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
While walking back home
the boy gathered courage
and asked the teacher,
“How did I win
tournament with only
ONE move?”
The teacher replied “You won for
two reasons."
"First, you've almost mastered one
of the MOST difficult moves in all of
Judo!
Second, the only known defense for
that move is for your opponent to
grab your LEFT ARM.”
SWOT Analysis
External factor: OPPORTUNITY
– What good opportunities can you
spot?
– Is the opportunity ongoing, or is
there just a window for it? In other
words, how critical is your timing?
SWOT Analysis
External factor: OPPORTUNITY
– Are there any changes in government policy
related to your field.
– Has there been recent market growth or have
there been other changes in the market the create
an opportunity?
SWOT Analysis
External factor THREATS
What obstacles do you face?
Could any of your weaknesses seriously threaten
your business?
What factors beyond your control can create risk?
Do you have finance problems?
Are quality standards or specifications for your
job, products or services changing?
What situations might threaten your job?
SWOT Analysis
How to use SWOT Analysis???
SWOT usually reflects your current
position or situation.
SWOT Analysis
Better
understanding of
these factors put
you in a better
position for
action.
The understanding of SWOT helps you in Identify
the issues or problems you intend to change.
Set or Re-affirm goals. If you see mid way change
in your plan, it can be easily done.
In your Mind!!!
Create An Action Plan.
Develop Strategies And Include Them In
Planning.
