The Use of ePortfolios to Support Graduate Student Professional Development Jackie Amsden
This presentation gives an overview of the rational for professional development programs for graduate students--namely the lack of tenure-track carreer openings. It also describes the role of one new professional development program, the APEX Certitifcate program out of Simon Fraser University, Canada, which is designed to equip graduate students with career skills and competanices that can help them build their own professional path. In particular, it focuses on how ePortfolios can be used to promote the transformative learning required to support students in becoming actors in their own career futures. It was presented by Jackie Amsden, Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Fellows and Robyn Schell, the Teaching and Learning Centre the Hawaii International Conference on Education.
