GEO STATIONARY ORBIT
• Geostationary orbit, a circular orbit 35,785 km (22,236 miles) above Earth’s
Equator in which a satellite’s orbital period is equal to Earth’s rotation period of
23 hours and 56 minutes.
• A spacecraft in this orbit appears to an observer on Earth to be stationary in the
sky.
• This particular orbit is used for meteorological and communications satellites. The
geostationary orbit is a special case of the geosynchronous orbit, which is any
orbit with a period equal to Earth’s rotation period

GEO STATIONARY ORBIT
USES:-
satellites used for various forms of telecommunication, including television. Signals
from these satellites can be sent all the way round the world. Telecommunication
needs to "see" their satellite all time and hence it must remain stationary in the same
positions relative to the Earth's surface.
EXAMPLES:-
GEO satellite systems include INTELSAT, INMARSAT, and PANAMSAT. The
geostationary orbit typically provides coverage from 20 degrees north latitude to 20
degrees south latitude

ADVANTAGES:-
• It gives a large coverage area, almost a fourth of the earth surface
• Satellite have a 24 hours view of a particular area
• Tracking by earth stations is simple
DISADVANTAGE:-
• Long propagation delay
• High transmission power is required
• polar region is not well served
